The Witcher 3 runs at 1080p ULTRA ~60 fps on a 980

why would they over estimate? they want as many ppl playing the game as possible

Probably not intentionally. Alot of optimization can occur in the time they've posted the recommended specs and release.

Visually I think the game looks incredible but when you've got people asking with 770's asking if they should play it on PS4, something's up.

Thank you for the advice! I'm going to look at i7s as a potential upgrade :)

Personally I would say an i5 is still the way to go if gaming is the most intensive task you with do on your PC. If these synthetic benchmarks are anything to go by then HT wouldn't scale as well and it would be better to invest money in getting a more powerful GPU as an upgrade. *Obviously keep in mind beta nature of Directx12 + the test being synthetic and not real world skews the data.

Guys I've got 4 Titan X running in sli on a 720p monitor. Do you think I can run this at decent settings and get 60fps?

No, SLI is buggy right now and you won't get proper performance. You can try overclocking them or running the game at 544p.

For reals though:

GTX 780 (stock)
i7-3770k (OC'd to 4.2Ghz)
12GB of RAM

Can I ultra this at 1080p60 or 1440p60? Cause it's not lookin like it.

They've said that it runs ultra and 1080p/60fps on a GTX 980, which is about 25% faster than the 780
I think you could achieve Ultra at 1080p but at 30fps, maybe it could reach even 40/45fps but would be better to lock the frame rate to 30 in that case.

How CPU heavy is the game? I have a 980 and a 3770k@4.5ghz. Is the CPU the weakest link?

It's probably pretty CPU heavy (open world games are CPU intensive by nature), but keep in mind that newer games are heavily multithreaded since they have to get all they can out of the awful PS4/Bone CPUs. Your i7 will be perfectly fine, especially at that clock speed.

Does this mean I won't have trouble playing this game at 1080p?
More than likely, not. But it depends on video memory for the most part. I definitely wouldn't jump from a 780 Ti to a 980 at this point, it's a marginal upgrade unless you just want a more efficient card or are really hurting for that extra gig of VRAM, which probably isn't the case at 1080p.

Okay, thanks. Never too sure what to make of CPU requirements with some games but this sounds promising.

Thinking about it this is pretty modest, my 580 was practically the best you could buy at the time Witcher 2 came out and with everything on Ultra AND ubersampling turned on I could only get about 30fps out of it, and it certainly wasn't stable. Without ubersampling though I had a stable 60. It seems to be a pretty similar scenario here so I'm guessing Ubersampling is gone or off by default.

Any rumblings about the 980 TI? Seems very unlikely the May rumors are valid.

I want 1080/1440p-60FPS/Ultra/Hairworks DAMN IT!!

To cheap for TITAN

Here's my new baby. First gaming PC. Thanks to an awesome slickdeal. (GTX 980, i7-4790k, liquid cooled)

Im sorry for being such a AMD peasant but anyone have a realistic idea of how well this game will run on a FX8350/280x Setup? Not enough for High at 60fps?

So are we expecting 970s to hit ultra 30 fps? And does ultra include all the fancy stuffy like hairworks? Really interested in seeing performance with that on.

Depending on what ultra fully entails it depends but if you have a good cpu with an oced 970 I would think so.

Don't know much about gaming PC's, actually I hardly know a thing. My brother sold me his computer for 300 dollars a few weeks ago. As far as I know there is 2 AMD Radeon 7900's linked with crossfire or something like that. How effed em I running this? Sorry for the lacking in information question.

EDIT:
16 GB of memory and a i5-3570k CPU

Click ont he start menu or the windows 8 start menu and type "dxdiag". run that. Should tell you what your GPU is under the display tab.

Maybe ultra at 30+? I think two 7950s should be faster than a single 970.

It just says 7900 series, doesn't tell me exactly what it is, if I remember correctly it's two 7950's

Hmm, the fact that they are simply listed as 7900 series in dxdiag isntead of a specific model, leads me to think that you might not have the latest drivers installed.

Make sure you do: go to amd.com and download the latest drivers for your GPUs. From then on I believe the catalyst center thingy should keep your drives fully updated.
