Because it looked like bribe money. We already know he takes bribes. What is a "handicap fund" doing in a brown envelope in his desk drawer?

The principal was drunk, maybe he started drinking while at the office (there was a bottle) and forgot to put it in the office safe when he left.

Nathan/ David/ Janitor will all be innocent, the Photo teacher is it, he even bypassed sex favors, that's the biggest sign.

Could be him. I wouldn't be surprised if its a character we haven't even met yet. Or maybe even multiple actually.

Aaaaand, I just remembered I forgot to help Alyssa this episode. Ugh. I guess she is probably a running joke right now or something to help her in each episode.

Me too, but she was waiting for a bus, and I tried taking to her once, and that did nothing, so I just left her there. Luckily I'm not a perfectionist, but it would be annoying if something happens to her if you don't help her every episode.

edit: I should take notes for a second playthrough when all episodes are released... I was already shocked that I could be more friendly to Victoria and have her respond to that when playing the photo mode in first episode. It will be interesting to play second time trying to make different choices and see how it affect things. It made Walking Dead quite disappointing for me, everyone died no matter what you did, but maybe this time it will be different. But I don't want to replay any of the episodes before having finished the whole game.

Same here. I probably won't replay the episodes until I finish at least once. I wonder what was the catalyst for being able to talk to her and help her. I didn't notice she was available to interact with until I had finished the episode and they showed the choices. It will be really annoying if they really do have something happen to her if she wasn't helped. That would bother me a lot since I wish I could see alternate paths and such.

The ending to Episode 3. I'm speechless!

To be honest I was very skeptical of this game during Episode 1. But it's quickly becoming a favorite.

Max's new ability makes me think that my girlfriend is right in that everything is going to lead back to Max being the reason Rachel disappeared in the first place as a means of trying to save Arcadia bay and Rachel herself. (The trigger to that theory is Rachel having told Chloe that she met someone that changed her life right before disappearing.)

The game keeps setting up the comparisons over and over of Max being just like Rachel and being connected in their similarities. I feel like they've already met in another timeline and/or perhaps Rachel had an ability like Max.

Tbh how Jefferson was so callous to Kate, the implications of a relationship between with him and Rachel, and him being shown as sooooo cool and good, I definitely feel like hes might be a bad dude.
I feel like Jefferson has probably made mistakes, and he may even be a coward who runs from his past to seem like a "cool guy" to new faces, but I don't think he's a bad guy.
Nathan himself is just a fucked up mess, whoever is behind all this is probably not someone we have met yet, but Nathan is the closest one to them.

Me too, but she was waiting for a bus, and I tried taking to her once, and that did nothing, so I just left her there.
The time limit you have to help her is SO Tiny, It took literally like 6 or 7 rewinds for me to click "Warn" fast enough on her to save her from being splashed, I had to rewind until Max got a headache and hit the interaction immediately, to the point that I was basically hearing the start of the splashing sound as I finally triggered the scene where Max pulls her back.

This episode in general feels less polished than previous ones.

Actually now that I think about it, who's to say Rachael doesn't have rewind powers too? And she's missing because she's in another timeline?

I just feel like this game is full of twists and surprises, so her disappearance because of some guy seems a little too straight forward.

What about Rachel Amber's interest in the trucker, trying to get a ride out of town? Then Max can rewind and pretend to be into trucks herself. That sounded really odd. Rachel basically had connections to everyone that Max has talked to about her. I'd be really surprised at this point if she turns out to (a) have skipped town (b) be locked in a dungeon (c) dead. I'm thinking that there is a connection to Max or Max's power.

I walked towards her, rewound, walked towards her, rewound, walked towards her, then warned her. Only 3 or maybe 4 rewinds, each very short.

Rachel is the Laura Palmer of the game, she was friends with both the good and the bad guys, and she had secrets most people didn't know about. At least my Max is not as good terms with the "bad" guys. I don't think Rachel is dead, the game seems to shy away from murder luckily, but she'd probably in some serious trouble. I have feeling she might be kept prisoner in the lighthouse...

Playing through this episode, I am getting a feeling that making Chloe too happy (e.g. taking the money) is a sort of trap, sort of like watering the plant. Dontnod is giving somewhat subtle hints (Joyce, David) that we should try to steer her towards being a responsible human being, and that they will probably turn the dating sim point based decision affection system (i.e. do whatever the hot chick says) on its head somehow.

...or at least I hope so.

Generally the time it took between stopping the rewind and clicking on her to Warn her was barely long enough, the mouse drag really makes that moment a real pain in the ass.

unlike the first 2 times when you help her, helping her this time actually affects something later on

I definitely think there's going to be a funeral/hospital scene in Episode 4, as Max says in the text if you save Kate: "I'll come see you as soon as I can, I promise"

This is my hope. I'd really like for that decision to have a meaning beyond just a random message. That's what I'd expect from TT, DNOD have set some crazy high expectations so far...

I was prepared to leave the money until Chloe mentioned that she'd be able to pay back Frank which could get him to calm down about the whole Max trying to shoot him thing. That was enough to change my mind.

I still didn't agree with stealing it. I guess I can understand why some people might have decided to do it because of how unstable Frank seems, but then I think he's not really that unhinged that he'd actually hurt Chloe.

Nathan seems much more unhinged in my opinion.

Speaking of Nathan, what a cunt...

His constant insults in the cafe were crazy. Dyke, whore, I can't remember what else he said. Thoroughly detestable cunt.

I don't get it, the money's in an envelope in the guy's desk, kinda sets off some alarm bells for me.

That's actually an interesting point and something I didn't really consider. Hmm, now I'm seriously wondering if it is a bribe and they used the idea of it being a handicapped fund to cover it up..fuck.

I for one never do something specifically to make Chloe happy. Be it in this game or any other game when we make choices that matters, I always do what I is personally feel right... at least on my first playthru.

Chloe can be very childish and it's just not right to side with her every time and it doesn't even suit Max's personality.

He really has a Jim Rennie Junior (Under the Dome) vibe to me; under stress and medication, mostly because of disapproval with his father. Maybe, just like Junior,
he's actually ill.

My plot will be that Rachel is dead and because she was some descendant of the natives in the area (as seen in the animal totem pole) she used some animals (the butterfly and the deer) to guide Max and gived her the power to be able to unveil her death.

Yeah, I can believe this. It definitely seems like he's a product of a overbearing and forever disapproving father. I wonder if we'll ever see his father? Seems almost inevitable, but I could see them keeping him as a shadowy figure who we only learn about through the actions of Nathan. Like father, like son....

Still, to hear those insults took me by surprise. I can't remember the last time I heard Dyke used in a game as an insult...

Yeah this seems to be the only theory that takes the animals into account, which are pretty important thematically, I can imagine something like this being apart of the overall story

Btw I loved that Jefferson was not buying anything of what Victoria was selling with that flirting and basically telling her to fuck off.

damn i just noticed the writing at the top :(

Just finished episode 3. Oh my god.

Alternate Chloe's happy smile when she saw Max from her POV was terrible. She is so happy to see Max again, not knowing that we put here where she is now. And then the guly thought that she could be actually happier in that crippled state than she was and will be without Max power in the previous world.

Seeing the preview, Max is probably turn things back again, but dear lord the end really stang.

Nate probably has anxiety disorder, he was having a meltdown in the bathroom before Chloe walks in.

One of the meds found in his locker in the bath is Diazepam, I forgot the second readable name.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diazepam

Diazepam thus made its second video game mention that I am aware of - first one was in Metal Gear Solid ;-)

So it is suggested that Nathan is
a) actually ill
and/or
b) addicted to pharmaceuticals

Just finished episode 3 today. I adore this series, the characters and story are great. I love the look of the game (yes the lip syncing is off, but I have stopped being bothered by it). My favourite thing about It is the soundtrack, it just fits perfectly.

Now on to this episode, wow! The very last scene with Chloe in the wheelchair was a huge punch in the gut. I knew something was going to have happened to her as Max was running up to the house, but that still hit hard. The wait for episode 4 is going to be rubbish.

Big dilemma for Max - does she go back and let William die again so that Chloe won't be disabled, or will she give things a chance in her current timeline (since Chloe looks happy despite being disabled)?

I have a feeling that the player won't be given the choice, because of the work involved in maintaining two separate timelines (holy shit though if the devs do something like that!)

So Max reluctantly lets William die, probably because she discovers that not only is Chloe disabled, but there are other BIG consequences from saving William. The whales are only an indicator.

Back in her old timeline, Max realises that the birds and the fish dying are because she has been changing major stuff:

1. Saved Chloe from Nathan;
2. Saved Chloe from the train tracks;
3. Saved Kate (although this can't feasibly count for timelines where Kate is dead);

From the looks of things, Max will end up saving someone in Episode 4 (we see a gun in the short montage at the end of Episode 3) and then rather than dead birds she'll start seeing dead dogs, cats, horses etc (or even people?) and then realise the real consequences of saving Chloe.

At the end of Episode 5, Max will have a face-to-face with Chloe, where Chloe says that Max has to rewind and let her die so that the tornado won't destroy Arcadia Bay. Max will be devastated but in the end she will choose to do the right thing. Max will then leave town, still searching for Rachel Amber as a last promise to Chloe.

All of the above is wild speculation, so feel free to rip it apart :-)

Chloe killed Amber because she knew of the relationship, shes been faking it the entire time. At the end Max will rewind kill Chloe to save Amber. Game solved besides the whales, birds, tornado's, rewind and stuff...

Nooooo! Does it do the indicator to show it will come into play later or does it show you how it affects something within episode 3?

Does anyone know if I can just play over my current save file and do just episode 3 to change certain decisions?

All I want to know is what songs they'll use for the ending montages of the last 2 episodes

they're excellent every single time

Having just discovered it on the game's Spotify playlist, my guess is Mud Flow's The Sense of Me. Feels much more like an ending song than Amanda Palmer, Message to Bears and Breton anyways (Breton we already know will be in the next episode as it's in the teaser) unless it reuses a song like it did with Jose Gonzalez with episode 2.

To the further credit of the soundtrack, they've picked each episode's song ending perfectly. Mogwai in the last one was the cherry on the cake and it can only go downhill from here. I figured its usage was going to be for the ending of the fourth episode and that's with the song played in its entirety.

But even then, the way Dontnod slotted Kids Will Be Skeletons in there into the final scene of ep 3 was way beyond what I was expecting. Wonderful

Wait so the Spotify playlist shows all the songs Dontnod have licensed for the game, and we can just guess which one out of them?

I just spent the last half an hour doing nothing but just sitting there making up theories in my head. fuck

That's why I love this game more than any Telltale.

Telltale just can't fuck with my brain like this. When I finish a Telltale episode, I'm, at best, like "Oh, okay, that was unexpected, looking forward to the next one."... But the wait is bearable.

I love this game, can I play the guessing game too?

Only person dead in this game is Max, and has been since the first scene in the game.

The end of episode 4 will be this games - Agent Cooper in the Black lodge with Laura Palmer moment. Max and Rachel Amber in the Dark Room where trapped in time Rachel Amber spells out to Max what is happening and what she needs to do.

This might be completely out there, but does anyone else notice the resemblance between the homeless woman behind the diner and Joyce? They speak with the same accent and the homeless woman makes a point about how Joyce makes sure to feed her. I wonder if the homeless "Joyce" is the one from the alternate timeline where Willaim is alive - we don't see her in that timeline (yet).

Now that photos can be used to get back to the past, this opens a lot of new speculation.

First of all, every photo that has been taken during the plot is now a point in time we could theoretically return to. The ones I remember are:

  1. The selfie during class
  2. Chloe dancing on her bed
  3. The butterfly
  4. The selfie in bed

Are there any more photos that have been taken in the plot? I can't quite remember because some of them (selfies in Max' room, all the trophy pictures) were optional.

Pretty sure that the selfie during class will be used to return to that time. It might even be what happened in Episode 1. This was a theory from the start, but I dismissed it because "Max can only rewind a few minutes or so". Well, the theory is now pretty damn possible.

TLDR: Episode 4 when?
