You now can get Refunds on Steam

Today Valve announced new Refund system for Steam.

You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn't meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn't like it.

It doesn't matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours. There are more details below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.

You will be issued a full refund of your purchase within a week of approval. You will receive the refund in Steam Wallet funds or through the same payment method you used to make the purchase. If, for any reason, Steam is unable to issue a refund via your initial payment method, your Steam Wallet will be credited the full amount. (Some payment methods available through Steam in your country may not support refunding a purchase back to the original payment method. Click here for a full list.)

About time, but glad they finally took this step.
Also a detail that might be of interest to some:

We do not consider it abuse to request a refund on a title that was purchased just before a sale and then immediately rebuying that title for the sale price.

Finally. I could've used this when I bought Battlefield 2 and found out it wouldn't launch on my computer despite numerous attempts to fix it.

Sounds like a reasonable policy, one that should have been laid out a long time ago. Hopefully their support is being bolstered to handle the requests.

all around sounds like a good policy so far, I've never had to seek a refund from steam but I'm glad they're dealing with one of their failings.

Wow, never thought I'd see the day. I wonder if going into offline mode prevents it, say what is to stop people from buying, going into offline mode, then refunding on a different system?

Good move from Valve, and a round of applause to GOG and Origin for forcing this decision. Competition works! Right before the Summer Sale, too.

Should also have the side effect of kneecapping some of the shovelware developers, since they won't recieve any money from any refunds.

Good work, Valve.

I'm not surprised to see them automate the process. All they're checking for is two weeks from purchase + under 2 hours played. Far easier to implement than only allowing refunds for certain reasons.

Couldn't you already request a refund although it being a more annoying process?
Yea, but this was approved on a case by case basis. Refunds were not common at all.

Thank goodness. So sick of falling for hyped games, and hating them. Like Witcher. lol

I give Valve a lot of shit but this is great. Hopefully their customer service team can keep up with the inevitable demand caused by some of the latest 'AAA' beta releases.

Refunds to your original form of payment is new too right (used to only go back to your Steam wallet)? Glad they are finally close to being a real store now!

The 2 requirements:
-Bought within the last 14 days
-Played for 2 hours or less

Seems reasonable to me

This is good news.

And as you say the rewuirements are more than reasonable.

2 hours is more than enough time to know if the purchase was suitable.

I wish Sony had a similar policy, I'd have got refunds on devil may cry, project cars, far cry 4 and bloodborne. Really regret those purchases. Ah well....

Oh and as this is the internet I'm just waiting to hear someone fibd a damn negative within this policy...

When I got a refund for a pre-order years ago, they asked me if I wanted it put back on the payment method I used or Steam Wallet, so that's been there a while.

Great news. Especially with all these broken games being released in this day and age.

I don't think I've ever needed a refund from steam as I'm generally aware of what I'm buying, but it's nice to know that its there.

Sounds like it's time for more milestone achievements in indie games to work around people trying to abuse this 2 hour limit.
