You now can get Refunds on Steam

And, can't you cheat the online time using offline mode?

Valve's been working on expanding playtime tracking to Offline Mode (finally) as per new strings tucked away in the beta client and now it's obvious why.

Great news.

Too bad I won't be able to use this due to my internet being slow as hell to download any huge games.

omg...time to refund a bunch of crap

hmmm can't seem to find where to request for refunds?

In the client go to help n support search game n go to im having issue etc on the right should be option to request refund

That's odd, it's not allowing me to request a refund on basically any game beyond the 14 day window. Doesn't matter if the game was played less than two or not.

I thought they would make exceptions now and again?

I'm in a similar boat. I tried to generate a ticket but the game in question (Legends of Pegasus) isn't even in the database anymore because it was such a catastrophic turd.

That sucks. I wouldn't know where to start.

I have requested refunds on games multiple times, due to the game not working on my hardware (specifically Stalker: COP and Witcher 2). I have always been refused these refunds, despite my logs showing that I have been unable to play.

Meanwhile, I use Audible, and have had refunds on 4 different books without issue. It was often because the narrator was very poor. The refund policy allows me to try content confidently and never feel like I was being cheated.

I often avoid buying PC games because of the lack of a fair refund policy on the games that won't work on my hardware. This gives me much more confidence to buy content without the guesswork involved in making it work.

well i just put in a refund for aliens colonial marines :D

purchased back in august 2013 played for 1 hour and had refund option still lol

How the heck did you get a refund through? I'm trying for things in 2014 and it's still not letting me.

If only Valve had this sooner. I don't intend to abuse anything but I do have 1 or 2 games I'd like my money back with, as they're either terrible or very poor performance and under 2 hours played.

What is the reason listed? Are you sure you're not requesting on games you bought from a third party site like Amazon?

Im not sure i literally opened client went support came up with recent games i played n a search for game. I search for aliens cos reasons.

Maybe they know about certain games with problems n will take refund because other games dont allow refunds for me but im able to request for this.

Can anyone else check if they can refund aliens

Anything that gives consumers more agency is a good thing, and this has been something sorely needed in the PC game market for a long time, even before dd. Here in America at least, I remember that once you opened a PC game, you couldn't return it.

It had the option for me on DMC3SE that I had played 4 minutes. They approved it literally 2 minutes later
Lucky. I asked for a refund for a game (not going to say which to avoid backlash) which I only played for ~20 minutes, but haven't got any answers yet.

This really is huge. A big plus for pc gaming vs consoles. I'd love to get a refund for bloodborne. I'm seriously thinking about building a new pc just because of this.

Well I submitted a refund request for the early access build of Hover which I bought in April. Fingers crossed...

they must have changed the refund system a bit im getting this message now

This purchase occurred significantly outside the refund window, and cannot be refunded. You can only submit refund requests for purchases made within the last 6 months.

They just refunded my unfortunate purchase of TOXIKK, which I bought on May 11th and played for 18 minutes. I told them it was a wasted purchase because it is a multiplayer only game that has a dead player base. I guess that was a good enough reason even though my purchase was almost a month ago. Good stuff.

Made a request a moment ago. Purchase was around lat April, but in this game's case (a small Early Access title) it's also not a huge deal to me if it gets denied or not.

Really wish I could get a refund on some of the sloppy ports made by major pubs that I had bought, but those were from so long ago that making a request would just waste everyone's time.

So do we know if Valve is paying refunds from their pockets, especially regarding very old purchases or the devs themselves?

At a guess: games within 14 days of purchase haven't had that money transferred to the dev/pub yet, so it's not much of a hassle to pull it. On older games, Valve is footing the bill.

Please note that this is just conjecture.

I think it is not intended to use this 2 hour perioud as a demo-period and the refunds are more about when you have technical problems with a game.

Well the OP does say

You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason. Maybe your PC doesn't meet the hardware requirements; maybe you bought a game by mistake; maybe you played the title for an hour and just didn't like it.

It doesn't matter. Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any reason, if the request is made within fourteen days of purchase, and the title has been played for less than two hours. There are more details below, but even if you fall outside of the refund rules we’ve described, you can ask for a refund anyway and we’ll take a look.

bummer i cant refund fallout 3 since its out of the 6 month window

i couldn't make that game to work across to pcs and just kinda sick of it

i have 4 hours on it because i was trying to fix it

Valve presents a new system for getting refunds on games that you're "not too sure about" and the next day they have a sale on a bunch of Ubisoft games. You can't make shit like this up.

I requested a refund on AC: Unity almost 24 horus ago, still no confirmation mail or anything.

Judging from the fact Unity is in your list of recently played games but no has no playtime attached (i.e. you've played it for less than a few minutes), I'm guessing all you've done is register the game key to your Uplay account. If your goal with the refund request was to essentially score the game for free, then it's not going to work out that way as you can't launch the Steam versions of Uplay games from Uplay directly.

No.I assume Ubisoft will revoke the key or something.

Anyhow I bought it too see if it runs like ass which the game did, so I didn't try it for more than 5 min.

You have a 690, right? I did tell you not to bother if you've <3GB VRAM. ;)

It's not letting me request a refund for Democracy 3. I bought it in November 2013 and played about 70 minutes.

I get told

That's a shame, I was tempted to refund my copy of Deus EX: HR DC that I've played for a grand total of three minutes: the game doesn't run well and hasn't since launch.

How long did it take you from requesting to get a reply?

I didn't get a reply. I never got the option to request it

I choose that the reason I'd like a refund is because it isn't what I expected and I'd like the money returned to my steam wallet.
The blurb about not being able to refund the money is under that. I assume if I could request a refund then that blurb wouldn't be there and a button to 'submit' the request would be instead

Requested a refund for Out of this Park Baseball. I tried to get into it but couldn't. Only had two hours played but bought it back at the start of April.

We will see.

Requested a refund for The Witcher 3 because all of the text was too small for me to read. But according to steam I've played 2 hours, which would put me right on the limit of how long you can play. It's been nearly a day and I haven't heard anything from steam. Hopefully they'll let me return it.

For the straight forward cases, it is probably completely automated. However veering outside of that probably needs a human response, and I imagine right now more than a typical amount of people have been trying the service out.

Yeah, pretty easy solution there. Wouldn't be surprised if it was implemented though to be honest.

It would simultaneously solve being flooded with cards for games that came in the latest indie bundle and I tried for like 5 minutes each. Cards feel worthless and even bothersome when they hand them out like candy.
