Stella has been removed from FFXV; Itamuro writing game; Demo 2 June 9; FFXV not @ E3

People either had a waifu-complex and Frumix's idea rested on baseless presupositions about Luna being a damsel in distress, when we don't know anything about her.

Yeah, people are throwing a fit for nothing.

Been burned a couple of times with these kinda things.

Seriously of all the things. These blonde girl a is just blonde girl b comments are the worst. The admittedly little we've seen of the two presented them in completely different lights.

Nomura was removed from the project because he had been working on it for almost a decade, was wasting money and couldn't realize his vision.

Nomura and his team had to help out with the FF13 and their complicated engine...After that there was the FF14 fiasco.
I remember someone from Nomuras Team said, that until 2009 they did nothing on the game...only creating some trailers
The real development probably started around 2010...in 2012 they decided to switch to next-gen

My theorie is, that nomura had too high ambitiouns (Sequels, switching characters) & it would take more years and money for Square Enix to implement these...

I mean

-All male party
-Messy writer change
-No strong female characters, are the summons all male too? Poor Shiva :(

This game is shaping up to be a mess

Queen Lightning doesn't look so bad now, does she GAF? Praying for FFXIII-4 @ this point

Sorry, but after a full generation of that crap, I'd rather not.

Lightning isnt really the best way to do a "strong female character". She barely has personality.

Tera is a strong female. Quistis was a strong female character (more or less). Yuna (kinda). Lulu (with exception of the outfit).

This is all my opinion, of course.

Lighting was.... She was just annoyingly bad.

So much this on the character change bit.

I'm willing to give the writer a shot, is dissida the only game she wrote for, can't find staff credits myself.

Is there any evidence that Luna's role is different than Stella's?

The only trailer I recall with Luna was the one in which we saw her in the chair, and I remember her looking as though she was steeling her resolve for something rather than looking like a damsel in distress.

I'm very irritated because they specifically said they only changed the title in 2013 and the same story with Nomura in charge was close to being done.

Now we see this is the opposite. Nomura was booted, Stella was changed, the direction of the story was altered completely, scenes gutted, no sequels(that one is probably a good thing), its no longer a KH type action game...

These are all the things that were changed from 2013 to now, not even factoring in from announcement till then.

By gum, i'm trying to stay optimistic that the end product will be atleast a good game, but i still don't know what SE will have to show for basically 11 12 years of development at the time its released.

I feel like I'm getting awful FFXII flashbacks when it was still in development. *sigh* I'll keep my expectations in check once this releases. Only good thing I got out of all that is no sequels so at least the game should have a solid ending (hopefully)

Nova Crystallis ‏@Nova_Crystallis 10m10 minutes ago
Sounds like sequels are out, for one. They want to do a complete story in one game.

That's probably the best news I've heard yet, honestly.

Are people really that upset about the removal of a character who was has appeared for about 2 minutes tops in trailers? I mean really?

This game...wow. At this point, people just want to play this to see how much of a train wreck it is. I mean, when you make the rest of the AAA development industry look like a great landscape of super high tier development...you have fucked up.

I also do not believe the no sequel talk. NEVER believe "no sequel" talk. This is video games people.

Oh no. A character we knew shit about that only existed in a proverbial vaporware title no longer exists.

Disappointing that there won't be anything new at E3. Squeenix really would be in a sad/hilarious sitaution without Eidos.

ステラれた

あきらめルナ!

Still, I'm disappointed. There was something about that first Stella in that trailer back in 2009 (?) that I really liked. And while Nojima's writing can get a little convoluted, it's the kind of thing where you go back and play a second time and you pick up on all kinds of things. The Dissidia writer? Maybe she can step up. I hope so.

Hell yes for closed story!

The Stella/Lunafreya thing seems to me that they completely reworked Stella's role in the story, and in the process they changed her name. It's ok.

Even the most "optimistic" theories considered Luna to be Stella's sister or whatever, because there was no way in hell their similarity was just a coincidence.

I want to play it because it still seems awesome and the demo gave me a great impression.

Don't care for development problems, just the product.

The only problem I see so far is too much communication too early, they revealed the game when it was still a scratch in Nomura's sketchbook. Now it's going to be an actual game and people are upset because changes were made.

Well, you don't have to go very far, Vanille and Fang were waaaaaaaay better than Lightning, specially Fang.

PS: They specifically said they are not planning sequels? OK, three sequels incoming then.

I am definitely more excited about this game now. Nojima is gone, no sequels planned, and waifu lovers are sad. God is in heaven and all is right with the world.

I wonder if we will get Stella derail warnings in topics now.

Anyway, it's disappointing to hear that they won't be showing the game at E3, but Square seems to have a full plate without it. The June 9th demo refresh is a fun substitute for the E3 hype and Gamescom isn't too far off anyway. The game practically feels real now, just announce a proper release date/window and I will be happy.

edit: also Dragoon lady remains. Nice.

Been burned a couple of times with these kinda things.

If it turns out that Luna is that kind of character, then yeah, it'll suck. But right now, all we have on her is that one shot of her grasping her pendant. It's not enough. What I'm saying is: let's wait and see before panicking.

My theorie is, that nomura had too high ambitiouns (Sequels, switching characters) & it would take more years and money for Square Enix to implement these...

Totally. I mean, according to the new writer (or Tabata), the original game was supposed to not have closure because the story was to be told through multiple games. For a game that took so long to develop, yeah, it does paint Nomura as having way too much ambition. He should have lowered it a bit, made his one game to stand on its own, and then, if the game is a massive success, follow through with sequels and a world-building mythology of some kind.

bringing in new blood seems like a sound decision
they can't rely on the talent of watanabe/toriyama forever!

Pfft.

Watanabe/Toriyama will be just as bad if not worse. I mean I'm open to new blood, but Square Enix should really start hiring someone who is actually competent to write their game, aka throw their money at Yasumi Matsuno.

I wonder what the movie industry would be like if there were tons of stories and outcry every time a scene or character was cut.

Jesus christ. Enough with these vapid drive by comments. Just because you couldn't be assed to know her backstory, doesn't mean we didn't know a lot about her. There was lots of info on Stella in the past 8 years, because she was a major character.

Who was the original writer for this? I was genuinely excited about the story when I heard there was no Toriyama. Should I be worried now?

Wait so no FFXV at E3? I thought they were doing a small video or something.

Well, the stage is really set for the debut of Kingdom Hearts 3.

Are people really that upset about the removal of a character who was has appeared for about 2 minutes tops in trailers? I mean really?

Things shown in CG cutscenes represent the entirety of a character going by this thread. Assumptions everywhere for both of what these ladies would do.
Even with the backstory provided of Stella, the game was in development heavily back then and that could have changed easily. I get people were impressed by her character but, a game with this long of a development time, I am not surprised even stuff like this changes.
I wonder if we will get Stella derail warnings in topics now.
Not only that I for see post saying "boycott FFXV until Stella is back." followed by a petition on change.org.

Well, at least Lady Dragoon and Black-hair-chick are still in. They seem interesting... apparently they still play "important roles within the story", so we'll see.

I have to say I'm happy there are no sequel plans.

Let's go back to standalone FF games. I'd scrap a bunch of the spin-offs too, while we're at it, but I know that'll never happen.

A bit disappointed that the entire DK sigma trailer is basically dead now...

And Nomura, what in the world were you thinking with the sequel BS before you even knew when you could deliver the game? Such a shame the original concepts had to be cut.

Wait so no FFXV at E3? I thought they were doing a small video or something.

They wanted to show a trailer but it didn't have enough new footage so the western branch said no. They want to save all the good bits to Gamescom where the promotion campaign will begin.

Eh, this no longer feels like the game I was excited for all these years. I liked the dynamic they presented originally between Noctis and Stella. Dissidia writers don't bring in much confidence either.

Versus XIII was first shown in 2006. Nine years later, it's still not out and it won't even make an appearance at e3.

Ehl oh ehl

The only thing I'm 100% sure is that constellacion is not a latin world, sounds more spanish to me.

Sorry for the divagation.

It's Latin-derived. There are variations, but Latin constellātiō consists of con- (together) + -stella (stars) + -tio.

Well at least...

Stella-Luna-comparison-final-fantasy-xv-37716529-748-450.jpg

For me, it's ok. We did not have a lot of informations about Stella (but that's what it makes her interesting and mysterious). But the problem is the communication. They could say it right after TGS announcement or even E3 2013 (I feel that this was already the case back then)

Wasn't her the face of ffxv together with noctis?

Removing her implies a HUGE story change imo, after all ffxv looked like a romeo & juliet x final fantasy, now the game looks more like a bro road movie.

Honestly already when someone said that ffxv was like a road movie i felt that something was not right...
