New Devil's Third Trailer (Itagaki/WiiU, Japan - Aug 4, retail is Amazon exclusive)

At one point the protagonist's tattoos glowed red after a kill.

This whole game looks like a fucking silly joke and I love every goddamn second of it

I can't believe they didn't redesign the lead character.

They redesigned the lead character FOR the Wii U; I seem to recall he (they?) looked much different back in the THQ days. The Nintendo producer pushed them to be more extreme and to demonstrate more "Valhalla spirit", whatever the fuck that means.

Its strange, I cant even begin to describe how much the single player repels me...

Yet the multiplayer actually looks pretty interesting.

Valhalla means "90s douchebag" according to Tanabe. :(

I could see the MP part of this(if done well for servers/netcode) being a fun addition to the Wii U library and have a good following.

That said... it doesn't look special. It looks rental weekend mess around fun though.

WiiU GotY contender. Which is of course no great accomplishment, lol, but the combat system looks real fun, despite shit graphics. I feel bad for the guy, this will bomb even harder than W101. Nintendo seems to care even less about it, no idea why they even funded it. Kind of like Konami buying Hudson just to kill 'em off. Why? At least I get to play this one.

Huh?

Well....I guess technically every game that is released is a Goty contender lol

oh crap maybe this is the Aug game for NA then and not Xenoblade

Nintendo announce a lot before E3, means big things at E3

The game is multiplayer heavy so they cant just launch in Japan without NA/Europe being far off

Yall cant be crying something look garbage because it aint up to the AAA standards then start reminiscing over the good ol days when we had all kind of games like this.. Hypocritical!

The lighting, effects and animations in the campaign look substantially improved from E3, but the multiplayer looks pretty much the same to me. I'd say it generally looks good for a WiiU game now outside of the really poor art direction. I can't believe they didn't redesign the lead character.

Fuck it though, I can't wait for this. I think the gameplay looks like it could potentially be great, and I hope it turns out well.

This. The game looks improved over what was shown last year. That part is clear. Liking or disliking the art direction is something different.

Here's the original E3 2014 trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yTldFe2m-A

There are a few scenes in that trailer that are now in the new trailer that can be directly compared.

Old trailer: 0:11 compared to 4:37 in the latest trailer.
Old trailer: 0:59 minute mark to 1:03 compared to the 4:39 minute mark that last until the 4:44 minute mark in the new trailer.

Those are the ones that I recognized right away. If anyone can gif those that would be great.

Watching the older trailer from last year shows me I still like the over the top feel and presentation to the game's characters.

Besides the horribly designed slash generic '80s B-movie action hero and the somewhat junky visuals I think it looks a lot of fun and a fresh action blend of melee/fps gameplay. Definitely interested if budget priced similar to MP10, Toad or Splatoon.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Don't really like that he's bald, other than that, art direction doesn't seem worse than NG which was also tacky as fuck (in a somewhat good way). It just really pushed tech, unlike this.

Everyone here being a negative Nancy and I just want to play an Itagaki game I have a fair chance at completing that's not balls hard on easy mode.

Multi above all looks like fun, kind of reminds me of TimeSplitters in a way.

Gamers making him out to be a god-tier developer were always a touch bit misguided.

I'll never really understand this. Ninja Gaiden/Ninja Gaiden Black, and Ninja Gaiden II were god-tier, easily (the latter was flawed and had some problems, but still at least demi-god tier). The fact that the franchise kind of took a bad nose dive when he left says a lot about how much he contributed to that quality, I think. This idea that his reputation was somehow undeserved is pretty off base.

I don't know, I'm excited for the game anyway. I'm not sure how it is that Itakagi burned up so much good faith of internet goers, but I'll take any kind of action series he's heading.

Game looks hilarious and, well, fun. Graphics leave much to be desired, but it hardly looks like a ps2 game like some people are claiming.

I have a bit of a soft spot for somewhat janky games though.

I wanted to like this so bad. But unlike Max Anarchy (Reigns), this just isn't reeling me in.

Maybe I might change my mind before the JP release.

Does Nintendo have some sort of action game bomb they need to meet each year? W101 in 2013, Bayo 2 in 2014, and this in 2015. Doesn't look horrible (though I'm still not interested), but this is the most obvious bomb of the year.

Sometimes diversity of library takes precedent over sales, especially for reputation and the future.

Seriously what is going on with that protagonist? For once id be okay with this being focus-tested to hell resulting in some dark-haired white douche in his 30s.

Current DOA fans have some place in complaining because 5 really is the best one, though it's kind of weird to completely hate the guy that came up with the series, which saved Tecmo from being bought out (well, saved it from being bought out before they got rid of him.) Then there's that special group of people who didn't understand that his interviewing style was a WWE-style act (and that him and Tekken's Harada are actually friends.) And then you have the "he only made ONE of the greatest games of all time, the rest are not the greatest games of all time" crew, who are obviously not too bright.

That said, NGB is my favorite game of all time, but I'm going into this with zero expectations. NG2 is great but also broke my heart a bit. I can understand why it turned out the way it did and I've grown to appreciate it a lot more, but it was still a big letdown to me. I'm hoping for something fun, but won't be surprised if this is rough. I'm not expecting an evergreen action game that I'll still want to play 10 years from release.
