New Devil's Third Trailer (Itagaki/WiiU, Japan - Aug 4, retail is Amazon exclusive)

I like how somehow you are the only one who can objectively analyze these games and everyone who disagrees with you can be dismissed out of hand because they are a "fan." Thank you for that, it made me smile.

No where did I say that I was the only one. Only thing at fault with me is a set the whole tone to be defensive.

US release for Devils Third is 8/28 according to Gamefly

Edit: also notable that Mario Maker is listed as a 9/30 release.. seems likely, not sure if that had been announced yet.

Nice, same day as Europe, so online should have everybody there at the same time

I love everything about this image, lol. Show this image to anyone and ask them what they think his profession is. Imagine the look on their face when you tell them he's a game developer, haha.

Plausible release date, given that it's a Friday.

That's not going to be Mario Maker's release date. It's going to be as close to September 13 as Nintendo can possibly get (the date of SMB1's 30th anniversary). It wouldn't even surprise me if they decide to release it right on that day, despite it being a Sunday.

Itagaki's baus level in this video is off the charts. But I'm worried about how much of the video was spent focusing on the multiplayer side. Doesn't seem like melee combat was the focus, so probably not possible to play it like NG :/

Even back when it was with THQ, Itagaki was always focusing more on the multiplayer talk than the single player stuff.

Actually, I suspect many people imagine game developers to look like greasy and nicotine-stained dwellers of darkness like Itagaki here

It would be awesome is Valhalla could upstage Nintendo's internally developed shooter by actually supporting their controllers. I will muster up all the hope I have and wish for wiimote/nunchuck support as well.

I got a "like" from Itagaki on Facebook when I asked for it. So hopefully that'll mean something. A game like this would be awesome as hell for me with r/n support.

Nice! No wiimote/chuck in Splatoon and no BLOPS3 makes me sad. I at least have a little more optimism in seeing a new wiimote pointer controlled shooter in 2015 now.

I never played Devil's First or Second.. Do I have to play the whole series in order to understand this game??

Do the people who really "believe" in TLG even post outside of the confined asylum thread?

Sure. Besides, half of the games people talk up on the board are just names or pre-rendered trailers.

It wasn't just that one post, though. There's some real hypocrisy in this thread, and this post from the first page really sums it up:

I mean people have been whining that B-tier/C-tier games have been ruined by the AAA landscape. Here's your chance to support your B/C-tier title.

You can still easily find BLOPS2 games.

You can easily find BLOPS2 matches on any platform.

I think it's important to be realistic here. Anything that isn't something the other platforms wouldn't be overly receptive to isn't something we should expect the Wii U audience to be overly receptive to either. It's not like Bayo 2 is swimming in Tag Climax sessions.

Personally, I'll be there day one to get whatever multi I can. I wouldn't recommend anyone try pulling that on day 90.

You can play any COD released on Wii U and even Splinter Cell without issues. You will find games quickly.

I had no trouble finding games for Ninja Gaiden 3 as well. Might have died by now though. As long as the online works and isn't broken or missing I've had no issues with any game's online for the Wii U.

I guess you don't know how "well" BLOPS2 sold on Wii U. I swear, each time is the same discussion.

"It will die after 1 month"

"You can still play online in almost any game on Wii U"

"But COD is a huge seller"

"Yeah, so huge on Wii U that probably hasn't passed 100k LTD"

Splinter Cell has sold something under 50k and you can still find games online. (or you could 2 month ago when I last tried)

No, but you should probably catch up on the story by watching clips of the cut-screens on Youtube. You may have to look up the game by it's Japanese name though, caillou. Just watch all the caillou videos you can, and you'll be ready by the time Devil's Third launches.

I have a hard time considering this the true NG3 unless they were gonna give Ryu some guns lol

I could see it being a symbolic name or whatever. Kinda like how "Dead Or Alive" meant that Tecmo would live or die on the first game's sales.

I feel like I would have liked this game if it released when I was in highschool and some parts of it actually look it could have. I'm not really seeing the appeal of this especially with the multiplayer on a wii u console where the user base is going to be non existent.

It's probably a good game but I don't have time for average experiences anymore.

I think D1 is NG and D2 is NG2. It's Itagaki's way of saying this is the true third NG game. Much like the way Inafune calls his game - Mighty No. 9 = the true 9th Mega Man game.
The name is pretty clever tbh. It's the third as you've said, after NG and NG2 (alternatively, third IP after DOA and NG). There's the three different styles of hand to hand combat, ninja/weapons, and firearms.

The term "Devil's Third" itself also refers to the "evil" tritone in music

Uhh, so which is it? Good or average?

Haha that's evil.

And someone needs to do a PhotoShop of Caillou with all those dumb Devils Third tattoos!

I'm not sure what your argument here is. 100k(which isn't even a number you seem particularly sure of) may not be a lot of sales, but however much BLOPS2 ultimately sold on Wii U, it's probably going to be a hell of a lot more than what you can expect of something like Devil's Third. I'd be willing to make that case for Splinter Cell too.

If you're arguing that the Wii U audience has better retention in their online playerbase, 2000 concurrent players doesn't strike me as particularly abnormal.

BLOPS2 is a game released 2 and a half years ago. Which sold poorly and still has an active online community.

Splinter Cell is a game released 2 years a go and which sold very poorly on Wii u, which still have and active online community.

My point is that there is a very small, but active market for these kind of games on Wii U. So it will definitely sell poorly, but I wouldn't worry about not finding a match one month after launch.

I expect Devil's Third to be close to Splinter Cell's sales.

So in the end there is no proof of "dead after a month" and a lot of examples of "long lasting community" for Wii U games with a strong online component.

Except you're using popular series' that have retained the expected amount of players that you would assume those kinds of series retain.

If 100 people buy a game and 2 are still playing it at the end of a month, how many people do you expect to still be playing a different game at the end of a month when only 10 people buy it initially?
