Then help :). Share it, post about it ;)!

Will do everything I can, but I'm a nobody, I have 2 twitter followers and don't use facebook.
They should have got the MEGA64 guys to help out, I always remember their Shenmue videos, I guess they must be fans.
Maybe try the GameGrumps they've got a huge fanbase, but I don't know if Arin like Shenmue.

The only thing that concerns me is the setting. Hong Kong was just... incredible. The scenes in Kowloon Walled City, in particular, just felt like a trip through an urban nightmare. I really want that experience back, but I'm not sure how that will happen when Ryo is spending most of his time in the country side.

Honestly, I'm hoping for a return to smaller, more intimate, better detailed environments. Kowloon was so big that a lot of it felt cookie-cutter. Especially when you could open thousands of apartment doors and find practically nothing in any of them.

Why does it need to go through Kickstarter?

If MS determines to give Yu 2 millions, does it mean Shenmue 3 will be ported to Xbox One later (PS4/PC still get times exclusive).

If yes, then do it Phil Spencer.

As explained by others. Kickstarter is only there to show that there is a demand (a bit like for Bloostained). Budget will be much higher than whatever Kickstarter provides and a publisher will probably fit the rest of the bill....and I wouldn't be surprised that Sony is part of it too, at least to an extent.

Currently, nothing says it will NEVER release on Xbox ONE. But if Sony is big in the budget, I assume they negotiated some form of exclusivity.

This game will need a fuckton more then 2 million to be made, this is just a test for the investors to see if there is a market for this IP.

We're not all strictly funding the game. For 30 dollars you get a copy of the game, so more like an early preorder. Like others said, it'll be to gauge interest and someone else will have agreed to fund the rest when it meets 2 million.

The lack of communication and clarity in this campaign is puzzling, if it was Mighty no 9 or Bloodstain, they will be all over social media and the campaign page answering questions and saying thank you. I wonder who is running this campaign from the west/english side.

Is probably late anyway, I guess they are sleeping or drunk in a bar, lol

The KS campaign is shoddy because, unlike most campaigns, they don't need to care about squeezing every last cent out of the backers. Clearly this game is going to cost tens of millions of dollars and most of that is going to come from Sony. So the main goal of the KS is to raise awareness and build engagement with the fanbase.

Yup, I also felt weird about the 2 millions. Even Phantom Dust cannot be made with such amount. Shenmue 3 will request, in my opinion, at least 800 millions to make if it wants to be a AAA scale game.

For Xbox One version, I don't think it gonna happen that is sad for me.

No retail for consoles, equals Not backing it for me!

I'll wait for a few more stretch goals to appear, expecting:
  1. PS4 & Xbone Retail editions.
  2. Shen-mu 1 & 2 full game compilation.
Once/if those stretch goals appear, I'll back it!

Not going to be part of Xbone, PS4 retail will probably happen if they do the 1 & 2 HD remakes/remasters.

So you'll be backing it sooner or later (I doubt they'll release 3 without 1 & 2 being involved somehow).

Joyous Greetings Shenmue Fans!

If you missed the announcement at the E3 Sony press conference--yes, this is Kickstarter for Shenmue 3, let there be no doubt! Fans everywhere have called for this day, and now the time has finally come.

It has been an emotional few hours already, and we have just started!

But first! Shout outs to Shenmue fans everywhere!

Your love, passion and dedication are the real reasons we are here. With a cliffhanger like that, every day was a lifetime not knowing what would happen next. But those lifetimes took on a world of their own, giving birth to a creative, energetic, and thriving community. And hilarious. Don’t want to forget hilarious.

Yu Suzuki still needs your help though, if Shenmue 3 is going to be the full-on Shenmue experience you have dreamed of. Share the project with every-one/thing/place you know! Random people on the street? Let ‘em know. Sailors in bars? Let ‘em know. Kickstarter vs. Shenmue 3 is the match of the century, so let’s get it on!

The fight starts now. Your backing and support will make Shenmue 3 all it can be. Pledging now will make the game better for everyone. There is no prize for coming late to the duck races. This is the big chance to give what we love to everyone around the world!

Let’s make history. Let’s make Shenmue 3.

Post it loud, post it proud!

He probably wont anymore lol. He's probably in a bar right now, drunk and speaking gibberish

"And the sailors, and the dogbirds and remake... They were all real!"

Bar tender be like ...I got a drink for ya:

5 oz raspberry lemonade
1 oz Smirnoff® Green Apple Twist vodka
1 oz Smirnoff® Watermelon Twist vodka

Cock 'n Balls recipe

I just backed it up with $29, but man already hitting 1.6 Million in barely a day! I believe!

In like, half a day actually.

The thing went online a few hours ago so it's pretty crazy. Still, this game will cost way way way more than 2 million, so dunno why they set up that amount.

This is such as shitty thing to say. They're using KS to get the community involved, to gauge the interest from gamers and use a modern method of publicising it. It's not nearly the same thing as what some devs/pubs do with their franchises. Either they're partnering with Sony to get the project of the ground or they're simply currently focusing on the console which likely fits the bill best at this moment in time.

It's true! EVERYONE! EVERY SINGLE MEDIA!!! ALL MUST SPREAD THE WORD!

In order to get the game that meets or go BEYOND our expectation, it is NOW OR NEVER!! No more chances. NONE! We are at the end of the world in respect to the Shenmue III dream. I want the FULL monty experience with insane amount of content, size, quality and the works. Only we can make it happen.

A quarter of a day, actually. It went online just under 6 hours ago.

What is Sony's investment in this if any? Boys did have some disclaimer at the begining, as if saying we have no part in this. We are here just to promote the kickstarter.

Where are those people saying Shenmue was dead and no one wanted it?

They've moved on to concern trolling. "Is $2 million enough?" and "I have ethical issues with the Kickstarter launching at the Sony E3 conference."

nobody who #BELIEVED had time for that group for over a decade now, we damn sure don't today

I can't believe fucking Shenmue overshadowed TLG and FFVII.

we all knew it was bigger, fam...today, everyone else just found out

I wonder if Sega is saying we will sell you the license for 2 million bucks? To me this is the most logical thing. Once he has it then Sony can fund without complexity?

The running theory is that Sony will chip in if the Kickstarter is successful (or if it reaches a certain number). So Boyes didn't want to commit to funding it before it was proven that people really wanted it.

I want that too, but is the team big enough to create something as richly detailed as the original Shenmue, let alone have the money?. And how many years would that take.

So uh, sorry if this has been asked but where does SEGA stand in all this? They own the IP still right, so they're publishing?
I hope he'll still include 1 and 2 :D
I really hope so too, but considering the first stretch goal is to basically put a cutscene movie of each game in III has me worried that they don't intend to port 1 and 2... which really sucks because they're really needed! Dreamcast emulation still has various graphical bugs with the games. I never got to play them and I want to, dammit!

So Ryo is going to learn to walk on fucking water in this game.

I love that Shenmue is going down a Dragonball route. I can't wait to see what kind of crazy awesome ancient martial arts techniques Ryo learns.

And I hope he fights a fucking dragon.

Lol I think you are mistaken, it's just the animation from hopping across the river on rocks.
Shenmue 2 had these QTE events just like the Kickstarter video.

I'm fully awake now and do not regret the $500 pledge at all!
Pledge #3588 :D

This game will need a fuckton more then 2 million to be made, this is just a test for the investors to see if there is a market for this IP.

From Wiki on Shenmue 1
"Yu Suzuki initially stated the production budget was $70 million[3] (equivalent to $99 million in 2015) but later stated it cost $47 million[4] (equivalent to $67 million in 2015)"

I have no idea how the business people think (investor level) but at first glance I do not understand how you can derive the possible demand and profit by looking at a 2 million kickstarter campaign (not saying I don't think that works, just don't understand it)

I want a physical PS4 copy as well as the first 2 games as I've never played them. I'll still back it for digital though but would have been nice.

I kind of feel they aren't doing enough to get this recognised and appealing to fans. Bloodstained was massive. we had streams with big name youtubers showing their support, loads of info, reward options and encouraged to share stuff on social media. It was incredibly well organised.

I dunno, they announced it during a keynote at E3 and it's only been a few hours
