I'm so glad I already own both games, the prices are going to go through the roof.

Maybe I should buy a spare copy of each before the prices go crazy. <_<

Yu Suzuki will pick you up from your chosen airport in a Ferrari F355 and drive you to a luxury hotel, where he will sex you up to a soundtrack of AM2's greatest hits, including Sky High and Magical Sound Shower. You will receive a post-coiltal download code for Shenmue III.

People would eat this up.

good call - those of you remotely interested in Shenmue 2, the best version is importing the PAL DC one, which plays on US systems with no issue and will surely continue to rise after this. of course, it's entirely possibly (likely?) Sega will finally do the HD ports with the success being seen here.

do bear in mind that its late as hell over here, parts of the world havnet quite woken up yet, and this thing literally crashed kickstarter. i had to wait and be backer # 1,200 something, you have no idea how much that sucked, haha

Oh trust me, I know how much it sucked. The very moment it appeared, I clicked on it, had troubles to log in, then pledge, refreshing over and over, at 4am or something, to finally be backer number 3301.

Isn't the OG Xbox version playable at 720p?

i forget, was it? wanna say Orta was at least, that thing was/is gorgeous. and i recall Shenmue: The Movie being a fair catchup as well, so perhaps that's the definitive version for some...but i thought 2 looked gorgeous in VGA mode, and i loved the subs vs the dub, personally. shame you can't easily transfer your save over though.

Even though I'm really happy, I'm kinda disappointed for now. Sure, 1,7M in 7 hours is great but... come on, it's Shenmue 3. It's like a dream coming true. The game should have a lot more than 20k backers for now considering the hype and the noise.

For now, it just shows to me that we really were a vocal minority. :o

Realistically though... How did casual gamers have a chance to be introduced to Shenmue? Its like a great painting thats largely been behind a veil. The first sold 1.5m copies, but it was on the ill-fated dreamcast. The 2nd was brought out in the US on a slow turning Xbox system, largely of a fanbase who had no previous relationship to Dreamcast

So regardles of how many backers Shenmue deserves, it's simply not been available to the mainstream. On top of that, the games have aged since and a remake just isnt going to have the same impact on 2015 crowd, much how Devil May Cry 1 released today on PSN wouldn't if it was some long lost Dreamcast franchise instead of relevant.

Just an unfortunate twist of fate, and however you want to spin Shenmue's Kickstarter success, its regardless a success and a huge one at that. The future's bright for one of the more unique videogame series ever.

Oh, so it's a Kickstarter project... Must confess that the mods not nuking the thread of yesterday gave me the hope for something bigger coming up today, something like a complete reboot of the saga.

Can't help having mixed feelings about the whole thing... A major KS annoucement/launch at E3, the game being a 'part 3' after such a long time since part 2, the fact it looks very very rough and clunky (even though this is not really a problem, at this stage...). I'm probably just too surprised, I don't know.

Very quick and rough translation and I think I skipped 1 or 2 sentences; I'm tired, but so fucking happy :)

Can someone translate this ?

"Recruiting for the development of Shenmue 3!!"

We’re looking for people who want to join the SM3 development project. Please, everyone who wants to join, apply in full force!

Hi, this is Takeshi Hirai, lead programmer on Shenmue.

It’s been 14 years since the release of SM2 and it’s been a very long time in which we weren’t able to release the follow-up to all our fans

Making a sequel happen; no matter what I did during those 14 years, I wasn’t able to get that thought of my head.

I’ve received passionate messages from all of our fans and industry people on a constant basis.

And yet, I think it's understandable that when it comes to a title like SM, creating a environment in which this can be realized in accordance with everyone’s expectations is no easy task.

Neilo was established 5 years ago.

I always thought about a possibility of making everyone’s expectations a reality.

And then I thought that launching a KS campaign was the most appropriate thing to do in order to develop this sequel.

We’ve cleared all the hurdles one after the other and were able to reach the stage at which we can develop this sequel: “Shenmue 3”

The only thing left is assembling more likeminded people who can pour their heart and souls into the development of this project.

That very “Shenmue” everyone is waiting for. A game where one can experience “the feeling of wow!” when playing it.

Would you like to do this with us ?

Well, in any case, I'm happy it's happening. And I'm gladly giving away 100 dollars again.

Pretty sure the PAL version was subs only, but it's been so long since I last played it, I might be mistaken.

OG Xbox version came with small graphical fixes and upgrades but is pretty buggy. PAL is also interesting because it's Japanese with subtitles.

Huh, I don't remember it being buggy. Guess I have a reason to dig out my OG and check it out...

Get some Otogi in too.

Pretty sure that's illegal, but lol anyway.

Do you at least get the dinner and the jacket too? Or only one?

Wait, so the PAL version of Shenmue II runs fine on an US Dreamcast?

Seem to recall someone earlier in the thread saying you needed a special disc.

I've just woke up (UK here)

lemme make sure i'm not making this up

Shenmue 3 is gonna exist
FF7 Remake exists

and The Last Guardian has been resurrected from the dead?!

i'm still asleep...it has to be i'll wake up soon check Neogaf and none of this is real....

Um, no. You do realize that not everyone is aware/uses Kickstarter and this is likely going to be the most funded game on the site, so far. That is a deserving accomplishment.

This is a bit weird how this happened.

Haven't followed the thread but have there been any ideas yet on why Sony didn't just fund the game themselves? It's $2m ffs... that's chump change to them.

Someone mentioned earlier that the game probably has investors ready to commit, but a lot of time kickstarters are used to show these investors that there is interest in a game.

Or something like that. This is likely the case. Can't imagine the game is only 2 million or yeah, Sony would have funded it.

Easily the most overrate games ever. Forklift simulator 1999 got boring fast, and the Yakuza games do the concept better than Shenmue ever did.

Still, smart idea to put it on Kickstarter, was a commercial no-go otherwise

Because it's not actually $2 million. Rarely is a game solely funded from Kickstart, they ALWAYS lowball it, even when they exceed the goal. This $2 million is proving to others with money that it's a worthwhile project
