This is the normal behaviour of kickstarter projects.

So maybe 7?

I doubt that this curve applies to Shenmue 3. The game had, by far, the largest initial attention of any other game on kickstarter. If anything, it is unusually front-loaded.

Was so excited that I started replaying 1&2 today.

Me too. On disc two of the first game, with a VGA box.

On my TV (Sony SXRD KDS-R50XBR1, which I've had since March of 2006), the VGA port is passed straight through to the display, so it's 1:1 pixel mapped. It looks as good as any HD console-- the caveat being that it's running in a 640x480 box in the middle of the screen obviously.

Still, it's the closest thing we'll ever get to having an HD Sega console. And considering the incredible texture resolution in a lot of Dreamcast games (in fact, a good example is the door in my picture, although it might not be that obvious with my phone's shitty camera), I sometimes feel as though I'm playing an HD Sega console.

Actually, it isn't rare for game KS to be frontloaded like that. There will still be a final rush but not as dramatic as other campaigns probably.

Just played darts on Shenmue I for about 45 minutes, brought back some memories I tell ya. I used to have a game of darts every day for a period of time when it initially came out.

so, how's everybody enjoying their shenmue and shenmue II playthroughs?

share the platform, and the memories!

currently onto disk 2 of shenmue on demul. really enjoying taking it slow. i've got a routine of beating fuku-san up in the morning, feeding the cat, buying a toy, buying a coke, and practising some martial arts before finishing off with a game in the arcade.

I've been busy working on backlog but I've dying to start my Shenmue II since I just played all of Shenmue a few months ago. I was actually able to transfer my save for the first time after finding some VMU editing progam so I'm looking forward to finally not having to start from scratch. Might just cave and play some tonight. I need to find a solution to my disc 4 not having music though.

Is Demul the best option? I always used nullDC. Only bugs are shadows, arcade and ryo's hair. Everything else is ok so far.

more graphically accurate and doesn't have the crash bug in shenmue ii that later nulldc builds have

very resource intensive though, plus anything over 3x resolution in the dx11 plug in is borked

I've managed to get my old Dreamcast and the VGA box. I've just ordered a VGA> HDMI upscaler, so once I receive that i'll give some impressions.

I mentioned the other day that playing Shenmue with a sega saturn fighting stick is awesome. I started yet another playthrough of Shenmue II this weekend using the stick. The fighting portions feel so awesome with a real stick in your hands.

You have to use a saturn stick, however, and a very specific adapter. The dreamcast sticks don't have L and R buttons, they have C and Z buttons. And C and Z are recognized as different buttons. L and R are used to look at things (how you select something you want to talk to or pick up) and run (which makes the game way more tolerable). Most Saturn->DC adapters map C and Z on the pad to C and Z on the dreamcast, but the Saturn/PSX->Dreamcast converter from Innovation maps L and R to C and Z, making shenmue entirely playable with a fighting game stick or saturn pad.

Shenmue doesn't use the Dreamcast or Xbox controller well at all. It's so much better playing with a 2D controller.

I'm sure this one is probably front-loaded in terms of number of backers more than most because of the press conference plug. However, given the level of dedication of this fanbase, I can see a lot of people feverishly upping pledges near the end if it's near a stretch goal.

If the campaign is within sniffing distance of 10M (say greater than 8M with several days left), there will be a hard push to hit 10M.

Fuckkkkk the dreamcast I was watching on eBay ended

It was only $100 with shipping included too :(

Edit: Welp, bought one. $144 but it's in really good shape and comes with 2 VMU and 2 controllers. Now I just need to acquire the games.

Me and a friend got obsessive in it. I almost hit a perfect game before. I think it was in the 700-800s i cant remember

Wow prices sure have gone up a lot. DC used to be one of the most affordable systems to collect for.

I don't know if this is sad or not...but I spent nearly all my money on capsules on the docks at the beginning of Shenmue 2 over the weekend.

I didn't get far in 2 hours. LOL

That seems expensive? I remember getting mine for cheaper. I wonder if people are upping the price of the system itself as well because of this.

Not sure. It's a couple of factors, mostly our poor Canadian dollar plus expensive shipping charges for importing it.

I paid 75 USD and another 40 USD for shipping, most of the ones from Europe were about 40 British pounds and another 40 pounds shipping

There were cheaper ones but I'm very picky about buying old consoles, this is actually the first I've bought that wasn't sealed, so hopefully it's in as good condition as the pictures indicate

120 GBP for shenmue II? I remember when you could find it for like 25 GBP.

It's funny how these games are suddenly so sought after. For over a decade, they were basically worthless, because who the hell wants to play a story driven game that doesn't have a resolution?

I know lol.

I shoulda caved before. But i'm sticking by my £50 rule...£75 by 2016...£100 if it's 2017...

It's not the best time to to buy the games.
I would really wait until the KS fever dies down a little.

That's actually smart. Buy all those capsules before your money gets stolen in the story and then sell them after.

It's going to be a long painful wait until this game comes out.In the time being we can imagine a HD release looking something like this?

Well that only took the whole night for a 7 minute youtube video as a result. This is why amateurs like me shouldn't do this. =)

Anyway, very introductory video in which I try to describe Shenmue, Kickstarter and the ongoing campaign very briefly. Maybe something for your gaming friends that might be as old as me but have been a bit off their consoles and computers lately.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGvjicXqeek

If I manage to do more videos I will focus on details on the campaign instead. Let me know of any shoutouts for other promo-events that could be good to mention. Will sleep now and hope for $3 575 000 and/or 45000 backers in the morning. Keep up the spirit fellow fans!

Lucky the UK ain't picked up on this yet for the Dreamcast Prices.

Shenmue Prices are about £50but there are some exceptions during Bid Wars

Shenmue 2? Well...

My max prices: £30 for Dreamcast. £50 for Shenmue 1. £50 for Shenmue 2. I won't go higher if I want them!

I'll also go in the buying order of Shenmue 2, then Shenmue 1, then the Dreamcast because that is the order of difficulty for prices.

They've stayed about the same since III's reveal.

II usually goes for 40-65. Varies, but you can get lucky and get it for 40. History is probably closer to 60 for most Sold listings, though. I'd say the higher price is mostly down to seemingly lower print run and no native US copies.

I is cheaper but also harder to get in mint condition (mentioned this in a different thread). Not sure why that is, but in my time looking for a mint copy (mint sleeve included), I only saw them once or twice, outside of brand new copies, which I so regret not getting (they were £25!) around the Dreamcast's disappearance from stores/existence/life itself phase.

Glad I own them, either way.

Hopefully they'll share more engaging updates soon for this KS. Seems like they grossly underestimated its performance and have probably been scrambling, possibly pitching new decks - "SEE! See what happened in just 8 hours?!". One can hope, or something...

They're that much now?? In 2011, I paid 24 USD for the one I currently own. Granted that was with no cables or controllers or anything. But it was in near-mint condition, and was also one of the versions that plays CD-Rs.

Most of them are around 25-50 USD and another 30-45 for shipping and import fees. Converted to CAD it's in the 100-150 range when all is said and done. Would be much cheaper for me to buy a system locally but they are all NTSC here.

whats all this about 10 million dollars? op didn't explain that very well after the gif.
yu suzuki was asked what he'd do with more money

he said at 5 million he'd get to implement ideas he very much wants to do (seen on the stretch goals as the character perspective system, which from an interview with 4gamer seems to be playing as different characters and having them interact differently in the world)

he said 10 million would be his dream amount

so we're trying to make dreams come true

edit: the above is more accurate

A little sizzle trailer worked up by the guys at the Dojo. Thoughts?

The message is good but the whole trailer has something off maybe it's the different musics like some else said that don't go well together in it, I don't know...

I think the trailer should be shorter to get maximum impact with an intro music then a more engaging music for presenting the features like in this one : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh8uEvcP-Aw

They don't have to explain why they do this (I mean the strech goals), they just need to present the serie (like they did) they finish on a selling message like "Shenmue 3 on kickstarter now". I mean the trailer need to present what is Shenmue and "sell" the campaign.

Sorry for my bad english.

Neat little comparison done by BlueMue on Shenmue II v. III reveal trailer. You can check it out here

I can see what Yu meant when he said that the E3 reveal didn't communicate his vision for that area properly.

"Can you tell us why you chose to use Unreal Engine 4?
YS: It’s because it’s easy to use and fits with how I imagine Shenmue to look. There are like rendering tendencies for the different engines, and the base colors of Unreal Engine 4 added with “dampness and scent” makes it Shenmue.

-- Are the colors you imagine the same as with the first two parts?
YS: Of course. Shenmue had that air humidity feeling well presented and it had a smell too. That’s what I aim for with Shenmue III.

-- So you’re saying that if you take a scenery out of the game and look at it you’d be able to say “That’s Shenmue!”?
YS: Yeah, That’s what I want to do. But the promotional video we made for Kickstarter felt dry. Kind of ended up like the Californian humidity level (laugh)."

Why Feminist Frequency is not supporting Shenmue?
Shenmue female characters have very strong characters not typical to videogames of that time.
We have Nozomi, Joy, Xiong and Shenhua
In Shenmue 3 you will have the whole rapport system which will show that this character is behave like a real human.
Someone should really write to Anita about this.

If people are getting in a tizzy about sony involvement imagine the backlash if Anita got involved.
