Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

Seems unprofitable.

Maybe AAA publishers will think twice before publishing on PC platform.

PC Gamers waited and bought GTA 5 when available
PC Gamers waited and bought Witcher 3 when available
We are patient people, but not when being served this type of crap

Thank CHRIST Steam refunds was a thing before those game launched. I have to imagine mass refunds forced WB to do something.

tbh they could just choose not to publish on Steam anymore. I doubt they would, but it's certainly a possibility.

I don't doubt that, always felt it's been the end game for all of these services. uplay is decent now, wouldn't be shocked to see them do an EA in 1-2 years time

Are you seriously asking if you can get a refund on a video card that HAPPENED to give you a free copy of the game?

No, I actually specifically said I couldn't get a refund.

But it'd be nice if they compensated it somehow, since the game doesn't work on the card they specifically said it would work with.

Steam refunds couldn't have come at a better time, lol.
I'm not interested in the Batman games but I was keeping an eye to see how Rocksteady would react.

They also brought Arkham Origins to PC and that was a great port, which is more telling about the story for this game.

Such a great port, it had a progression blocking bug in the first tower you can unlock in the game.

It just goes to show, that delays aren't always a terrible thing.
Indeed, but people would have still complained and some would have even boycotted until the GOTY release for not releasing on day 1, etc.

I just realized - are these guys bringing Killer Instinct to PC? :(

KI is probably the best thing they have done, and it even had a lot of improvement under the hood after taking over the project from Double Helix. I don't know how much was Microsoft's help or theirs, but they have been working on that project themselves for the past year. I'm not too worried about their ability to do KI justice. I'm just now worried about how this will affect that.

I may be wrong and please correct me if I am, but weren't the major bugs present in all versions of the game, indicating a WB Montreal problem and not an Iron Galaxy problem?

It's cool that they're pulling it, but it doesn't help the people that already paid for it and can't get a refund. Maybe the Steam refunds are working and will entice publishers to put out their games when they're ready?

That would be nice...maybe get a different game or something. But I highly doubt they will do anything for us. They already kicked us to the curb once by taking out the Harley Quinn dlc like an hour before release

Lets not act like this -- as unprecedented as it may be -- is some kind of olive branch extended to impacted customers out of the goodness of their hearts. It's a calculated risk mitigation move on their part; a way to sop up bad sentiment in a hurry, reduce damage to their reputation and finances, and re-position themselves for a re-release. It sure *seems* like they're taking responsibility, but we all know the time for that is kind of passed when QA stamped "Good" on the package. All the talk about working in the customer's best interest here is a side-effect of larger damages, thanks to Steam refund and bad sentiment (I'm sure they don't like that "mostly negative" review stuff, either -- does a re-release on steam wipe out negative reviews?). It's a smoke screen folks.

This is exactly what should happen of course, and it's the "right thing to do" whether that is their intention or not, and I would argue that their intentions up to this point seem to have been to release a shoddy port. Maybe harsh words, but I don't think anyone should think this is WB doing the right thing for the right reasons beyond their own corporate interest.

what's really odd to me is that this is in UE4 right? or UE3? either way it should be pretty easy to move to PC..

amazing how they can screw up on an engine that is PC-centric, meanwhile Ground Zeroes on FOX engine can run on toasters...

So I guess Iron Galaxy has a lot to explain.

Depends. It's entirely possible the fault lies with Rocksteady, Iron Galaxy, and WB as the liason depending on why the port is bad. For example, it matters what build, assets, etc were given to Iron Galaxy along with when.

You know they'll probably just not bother to release them rather than pay more for more competant studious to port it.

Yeah, I know I'm a pessimist.

That's certainly an option that's sitting at the back of my head. They might go for what Ubisoft has done in the past, though, and release the PC version a few weeks after consoles. Or hell, if I'm being optimistic, maybe they'll be more responsible about releasing quality PC ports day-and-date with the console versions.

Viveks is the hero Neogaf deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark gaffer.

The video makes me curious too. Just from like a technical perspective mostly though. Wondering if it's off a different build or something.

LOL! I hope SkyTurnsRed finds something from his buddy at Nvidia who actually made that video. Otherwise this mystery will get buried in the depths of internet forums with no closure :'(

This may yet be an entirely new port, ZOE2 style, making me still in the right LOL.

Damn it. Can't believe you lawyered you way out of this.

It's a modified UE3, which is probably a big part of the problem. I don't *think* UE4 has the same constraints with streaming, etc.

By the way, GMG buyers are only getting the chance to get a refund post-patch

http://blog.playfire.com/2015/06/batman-arkham-knight-pc-guidelines.html

That was posted by GMG before WB announced they were suspending future sales of the games. I think most people are hopeful that with such a drastic move by the publisher GMG will offer refunds without having to wait on the first patch.

Would certainly be nice to get some clarification although it could very likely get swept under the rug

Lets get real in an age before Steam Refund this would not have happened.
Also looking at the Metacritic it's possible it would effect the legs of Batman long term if the issue is not addressed.
HUGE A** companies need to realize this is the Age of Internet and these type of practices will have a huge blowback

And to think alarmists were trying to paint refunds as a huge negative for PC gaming.

Well damn, that's a big move! I'll re-evaluate the situation in a few months time and decide if I want to get the game on PC or PS4 (if I even get it at all!)

Good on them. Lord help them if they let a shitty port like this happen again in the future though. IG is Keits' crew right? What happened (not blaming him personally of course but usually they are on the ball no)?

I can't remember exactly if it were all platforms (AO performed better than AC/AA anyways) but I think people are throwing IG under the bus too quickly and it's pretty disgusting to see people flood their twitter/linkedin/facebook with hate messages when*** we should be focused on advocating not to buy AK on PC and future WB games.

It may not be unreasonable to blame both.

Wait, the game is still available on Steam for me and I can add it to my cart. Won't be able to checkout or something if I want to buy it right now?
