Warner Brothers suspends [new] purchases for PC version of Batman Arkham Knight

At least everybody will be watching when they put it back for sale again.

These guys will work non-stop to make it on par with the console versions. I guess that for fans hoping for a good and fixed PC port, couldn't be better news. A patch is a patch, people are used to expect less from patches.

A full re-release? I guess we're in for a treat.

I don't think this is Steam Refunds so much as it is the whole ecosystem. When you go to the store page Arkham Knights has a "Mostly Negative" rating. I''m guessing WB hated seeing that on their AAA game in a AAA franchise. The refunds didn't hurt things however and who knows what would happen if they weren't in place, but I don't think it was the only factor.

Yup. They're hitting two birds with one stone here. I guarantee they will re-release the game with a different title to get a new store page with a clean steam review slate.

That's the best they can do. Goes to show they are taking it seriously and that they are going to fix all the troubles. I'll go ahead and buy it once everything has been sorted out.

Double Edged sword I think.

PC versions of games could be delayed weeks to make sure it is working, just so they don't have to deal with refunds.

Meh. I actually wouldn't really care. I'd have to avoid certain sections of the internet to avoid spoilers if I really wanted to. But I'd rather have a game that works and a developer/publisher taking responsibility for their mistakes rather than going quiet once they get customer money.

It's ultimately up to the publisher to approve (or demand) a release date. If it's not ready...then it's not ready. If it was a legit developer fuck up, then yeah they are in trouble. But WB may have had an unreasonable deadline. There is no way for us to know who is ultimately at fault here.

They're generally against when it comes to co sumer outrage, so I expect their response to be received poorly around these parts.

I love GB for their laid back, transparent style, but that means they're super close to people at studios. 9 times out of 10, they don't see what the fans are upset about when they get mad at their drinking buddies.

This isn't really true. They've been very critical of Sony at times and are very good friends with John Drake and Adam Boyes.

"On par with the console versions" is a crazy statement though, especially since that would be a huge improvement.

A crazy month for games in general. So many ups and downs!

Rocksteady did the console ports, right? That's been called a "tour de force." Iron Galazy did the {C port job, and that blew.

WB's probably is somewhat at fault of course

Someone's thought of these already, I assume, but:

1) Holy recall, Batman!
2) Batmobile gets repo'd
3) The Dark Knight Refunds

Number #2 already happened when the Batman Arkham Knight Batmobile Edition got cancelled 5 days before launch. Refunds there too.

I get what you mean, but, I feel like they could have just said a patch is coming and that's it and people would have fell for it. They didn't have to do all this.

The thing is, this port is comprehensively fucked. Announcing a patch would be a band aid on a gaping wound. This actually might buy them some decent PR (comparatively speaking) and allow them to re-release the game with something resembling a clean slate.

Probably a direct result of all the refunds that are piling up. Hats off to Valve for going through with it, but I can't help but think this could lead to more publishers doing their own thing with digital PC stuff like Ubi and EA do.

Huge turn of events!!

Guess I should stop playing the game until it goes back on sale and the game is fixed so I can enjoy it the way it was meant to be played.

In the meantime I shall play Witcher 3 and DMC4: SE :)

Probably more like it will teach them not to bother with PC ports, just to much trouble.

If that was the case, Rockstar wouldn't have bothered with PC release of GTA 5. Publishers need money and they will not discard any avenues.

Bullshit. Developer intentionally locking it to 30FPS, no AO, AF, AA, low res textures, then changing the requirements one day before the release and no PC review copies. It was a scam and Steam refunds and internet backlash along with mainstream media showed the right place to these clowns.

...Has there been a case like that before when publishers totally halted sales of a game to fix issues before?

I don't know how many of those users will retract their review, seems like what's done is done now.

They'll re-release the game with a new subtitle and get a new steam store page.

Ashes Cricket 2013, but that one they straight up cancelled.

I was actually thinking this very thing. No way they'll just put it back on Steam with those reviews. Nor should they; if they do fix the game, the game should get re-reviewed for what it is and hopefully this time the reviews will be able to focus on the game itself and not the state of the PC port. Its terrible to see the technical issues overshadow what is really an amazing game but that's the way it goes.

I have no idea why these people couldn't have seen how obviously terrible this PC port was. How the fuck could they be so obtuse as to actually release the damn thing?

They knew, they just didn't account for the Steam refund system assfucking them.

I wonder how badly Ubisoft is shitting their drawers right now. They better hope Syndicate isn't a complete shitshow.

Which is fine because I think it'd mean more skepticism as well. If I saw a publisher that was normally on Steam switch platforms to coincide with a certain game's launch, I'd be pretty damn hesitant to buy it.

Either way, I know never to buy another WB game on PC again. I thought this would be the one that would be good given previous Batman games, but now I know that they'll always fucking outsource PC development to 3DS developers or a high school class.

Steam refunds is a great thing and now I'll have to think twice about buying it elsewhere. Finally gives the consumers some rights again.

I wonder if Valve has any say when it comes to pulling a game with so many refunds. I'm sure they don't want to deal with a large number of them either.

I think they would take the extra hassle if it gets developers/publishers a second look at their games they are releasing, knowing that if you release as shit product people are getting their money back.

The steam page now says releasing this FALL?? Has there been any official statement saying the game won't be back on PC till fall?
