GAME employees have confirmed to Eurogamer that the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight is now being pulled from shop shelves.
This is a pretty massive thing (more so than just pulling it from Steam), to take it off Steam is a big move for a AAA game - but to also tell physical stores to stop selling it is massive.

I can confirm my local Game when i was there earlier was indeed refusing to sell it.

I got it from Nvidia, I'm gonna have to pay for the real version when it's released, right?

No way. They can't just screw over gamers who already activated on steam and didn't get a refund. Think of all the other gamers who didn't get it directly through steam and can't get a refund.

That's pretty crazy. They must be putting a huge amount of effort into setting this right.

It would have been easier in the long run to put that effort towards preventing this madness in the first place by delaying, but it's something.

The last time that happened was with the disastrous first version of FFXIV, right?

Why Iron Galaxy accepted WB's money to port this large scale game in alleged 8 weeks time if they knew it would be impossible to do it properly in the first place? They should have turned down the deal but took the responsibility anyway.

To my knowledge, this 8 week thing is misinformation that is being spread based on a reference to IG in an update in a Steam content database entry. The date is that of an content update, not necessarily indicative of the date they actually started on it.

Yeah Amazon.com also removed the retail PC version. this will be even bigger clusterfuck in Europe.

The lesson to learn here : give your games to competent studios to port them to PC.

I need to go look for videos of people who are complaining, because I've been able to play this game just fine on a 980. It for sure has issues. Obviously there should be all the same features enabled and more compared to the PS4 version. It obviously shouldn't take some big frame hits at times. I'm close to turning off the Gameworks smoke so that Imy frames don't nose dive for a second or two when smoke pours out of the bat mobile.

But, what I did is change the INI back to 30 and I've been playing and really enjoying the game. Maybe I'm just not having the unplayable issues others are or, more likely, I'm more tolerant of this stuff since I'm been gaming from back when you were represented on screen by a square.

Good they pulled it until they can figure out how to get something that is more satisfying to more people, though.

And again as I asked other posters, how much RAM do you have? Did you install the game onto an SSD? What size is your page file? Is it on an SSD?

Amazon UK have pulled the digital code version only for now, you can still seem to buy the boxed version - i expect it will also be pulled soon.

It wouldn't be the first time (or the last time) the "Money people" told the "Dev people" "Hurry it up, we don't care what state it's in, release date is soon."

I just pre-ordered a shit ton of games with the e3 promo and anytime there was a pc option I chose it. I really hope this makes other devs revisit the pc versions of their upcoming games knowing the wrath they will endure if they are bad ports.

Great definition of fine, especially on a card like that.

well Iron Galaxy weren't really Bluepoint-tier before this or anything, they released a broken full of bugs Batman Origins port (got fixed in like a months after release) and a legendary horrible port for Borderlands 2 on PSVita. there don't really have super awesome track record.

Sure WB is also to blame here (since they give it to IG and greenlit it) but Iron Galaxy is the one make this broken port and should not get a free pass here just like WB.

does this mean the fix is also coming in the fall?

How did this come to pass. Delay it, get it sorted, say there were optimisation difficulties. Don't let people buy it and find out its unplayable and then have all this malarkey... I think any PC gamer would rather wait and have their first taste of the game be a good one, not one that pisses them off.

Surely at least a few people willmlose their job over this, it got out of hand but never needed to.

Really nice that you can get refunds from GMG for this. Still think I will hold on to my game though since I got it pretty cheap and after all this I'm expecting the game to be fixed to at least a playable state.

Who the hell gave them the job to port this to PC, especially if they aren't that experienced on porting games to PC?

This is extremely old news, and its been covered to death. They arent just a console studio, they also did the Batman AO pc port and it came out fine

Well I hear this for the first time.

....or maybe they know they cant fix it due to lack of resources. Hell, they couldnt spare the resources to do the port themselves [Rocksteady].

To take it from the store (digital and physical) usually means this patch, or "patches", might take awhile.

Last time sales of a game were stopped like this, it took several months/year with FFXiV. That was a design issue rather than a technical one though.

BL2 is not a very good example, given the large performance gap between Vita and the hardware the game was designed for. I doubt another studio could have done a significantly better job.

IG may not be blameless, but WB decided what funding and resources to give the PC port, and that AK PC was in a releasable state. The buck stops with them.

I bet u rocksteady said they couldn't get PC done in time.... i BET you they asked if they could release pc late... i BET u WB said no and said "hey those guys that helped with origins could prob do it..."

Origins was also loaded with settings and pretty much superior compared to the console versions in every way.

Borderlands 2 was a difficult project where they did what they could. There hasn't been a good Unreal Engine 3 game on the Vita, just go check out Mortal Kombat 9 to see how bad UE3 is on the Vita. They got the task to transfer BL2 to the Vita and did the best they could, especially when you consider that BL2 never ran particular well even on the consoles it launched on.

And it's easy to point out a couple of not-perfect works and not point out some of their other ports, which range from well done to excellent.

These are just the projects they've been credited with on the PC, for example:

Batman: Arkham Origins
Divekick
BioShock 2 (they ported Minerva’s Den and The Protector to the PC)

I remember how many people were so incredibly upset with that Bio 2 DLC on PC? man, those were dark times.

what im getting at is that unlike lets say High Voltage, a studio who has a long history of being terrible at doing ports, IG has done good work in the past. So putting it all on them doesn't seem right.

ehhhh.... I had the elevator fall through bug and had to start over from scratch. Plus performance issues, plus a missing benchmark, plus missing features. It did kind of get ironed out eventually.

Yeah... I'll give it until the end of the week to see where things are at and then request a refund for the season pass. Really no point keeping it when it'll probably go back on sale when the game is re-released if not just set at a lower price and I don't intend on continuing until shit is fixed anyway.

So my friend bought a Steam version of the game but only realized how much he'd been fucked over when he was already 3 hours in.

Any chance Steam can treat this as a "special case" and be able to refund it?

I can't speak for everyone but I didn't have any significant performance issues with AO and most of PC performance thread here didn't either, some people were commending it's performance in comparison to DX11 on AC.

I think I'll stick with my GMG copy for now (atleast until the first patch), pulling it from retail as well showed me they were 100% serious about fixing it. GMG should stop selling keys though.

I think this fix is going to take a lot longer than people are thinking. A big recall like this doesn't happen for a patch they know will be ready in a week.

I think we all realise that now.

WB wouldn't be telling retail partners to honour refunds if they could get away with just promising the patch is coming and throwing in a piece of crappy DLC as compensation.
