so i was walking in a parking lot and this douchebag left his sportscar windows open with cash lying all over the passenger seat

i stole a bunch then walked over to the cops and was all like "lol you can totally steal from that car, can i tell people on craigslist"

and they were all "lol yeah fuck that guy, he deserves it, keep fighting the good fight"

If earlier that day the guy sold you a car with 3 gears and tried claiming it had 6 because you can go back and experience those gears again you might consider it haha.

Why's the guy who owns the sportscar a douchebag?

Also I'm glad you can see that all crime is equal. You should be a Judge.

Stealing isn't OK but there are some serious overreactions in here. "Morally reprehensible"? Yikes.

Here's the worst case scenario. People with legitimate codes who can't redeem them may have to jump through an extra hoop, like contacting a customer service desk by phone or email to get a new code issued, and they will do it without asking for a proof of purchase because they don't have the resources and don't really care. That sucks and all, but jeez guys.

...that comes with a code for Destiny and is packaged/marketed as such. It's part of what you're paying for at the time of purchase, so long as the promo is still active.

Is there any cost difference between a can of bull that comes with the code and a can that does not (pre promo cans)?

Because if there isn't, I really don't see how you can factor the destiny content into the value of the can. (does the can state what the value is, if any, of the content?)

Contact Red Bull.
Contact Bungie.

Tell them what happened. Tell them the code is invalid. Tell them you need a new code cause you rightfully bought the drink. Take a picture of the code. etc etc etc.

I'm sure they won't run out of something digital, right?

Some of you are way too twitchy over this. I'm sorry that Bungie and Red Bull decide to rip you all off by locking a content behind a drink that requires a DLC which requires the full game. Sorry that the game was gamed. They should fix this, and if they don't then request a refund for it. Continue supporting a company that enjoys locking shit like that and maybe they won't do nothing about it and blame you for not redeeming the code sooner.

So the fact that I can email someone that something I paid for was stolen justifies the theft? OK.

Given Bungie's history, they will probably apologize to everyone whose code was taken by selling the mission for $9.99 or so.

Theft is theft. People can be arrested for stealing gum. You're taking something that you didn't purchase.

I know man this is what I've been saying! If you steal a pack of gum you are equally as dangerous and morally corrupt as a person who steals a car. I don't understand how these code thieves, these disgusting pathetic excuses for a person can live with themselves.

Posting this for a friend in response to someone's math on this from earlier which I can't find or was deleted.

There are actually 244,944 permutations if the letters are not allowed to repeat and 367,416 permutations if the letters are allowed to repeat. The positioning of the letters matters. Not only are there three choices for which letter to use, but the first letter has eight possible spots it can occupy and the second has seven. So if the letters are allowed to repeat, it's 3^8 x 8 x 7 = 367,416 or if the letters are not allowed to repeat it's 3^7 x 8 x 7 x 2 = 244,944. That's not to mention that this was stated to be just one of potentially several batches, so there should be plenty of these codes to go around.

Theft is a very loose term here, my friend. Please know that no one stole your Red Bull or the taurine in it. No one stole your code. They just randomly punched in numbers and one of them was yours and it got taken. This happens with every promo code out there where eventually one of them is taken.

Bungie and Red Bull as a company SHOULD rectify this.

My credit card number got stolen and someone pulled out $1000. Did I cry about it? No. I called VISA and they transferred the money right back. Theft is never justified but it's not something physical they stole from you that can never be fixed, ever.

I'm sorry this happened to you. PM me and I'll send you $5 PSN Code (US Account only).

wonder if destiny/bungie will have any backlash to the gamers who redeemed the codes unfairly..
How are they going to know who did it "unfairly" and who didn't? What would the backlash be? "How dare they not have a complicated enough code generation system"?
More blame on whoever set up the code system.
Oh yeah, victim blaming. Classy. Not that they shouldn't necessarily have a better system given people are all over it like this, but that doesn't permit exploitation. You're asking a corporation to assume that their users are a bunch of theft-minded dicks. By proving that they are.

It doesn't justify the theft. It gives you less of a reason to treat this as some great big serious issue to get super mad over.

The fact that someone emailed a mod to get permission to post a thread that exactly details how to steal one-time redemption codes from paying customers and it was granted is why I'm pissed. Like, what the fuck?

The direct quote is this: "So many on here are morally bankrupt. Just reprehensible. I expected better from GAFfers."

IOW, it's reprehensible that many on here are morally bankrupt. And I'm referring to people justifying theft. Theft can't be justified.

God damn, this thread is roller coaster of emotions. But now we're having serious math knowledge being dropped like it's hot.

Thanks, GAF. You're both the best and the worst at the same time.

Because the grief you put someone else through and their time means nothing, amirite? Disgusting..

What?

...

What?

I'm literally dumbfounded by your response. Yes, whoever set up a code system that is easily exploited as in this case could be the first in line for fault. That's just fault analysis 101. Thing happened, why did it happen, how is it fixed.

Reminds me of that episode of Spongebob where they stole a balloon on free balloon day... lol. The code itself has no monetary value, the price paid is for the price of the Red Bull. There is no price differential between a normal Red Bull and Red Bull with the code, therefore the code has no monetary value. I dont even own Destiny and this is all on Bungie/Red Bull for allowing such an easy loophole in their system.

I didn't steal it. I doubt he will find out who stole it. I'm doubt the petty thief will ever be caught, let alone use that or play that quest.

Again, I'm sorry this is happening but BUNGIE and RED BELL as a multi-million dollar company can and will rectify this. The content doesn't even release until September 1st.

I, as a person, can sympathize and provide him with a $5 PSN Code, which is more monetary value than a code in a drink that Bungie and Red Bull so foolishly made simple to be stolen.

If I'm ever in a life threatening scenario and I need to steal to survive I'll be sure to remember that.

I think you are taking a small thing and turning it into a very big thing. I wouldn't consider people who do this "morally bankrupt". I would call their actions in this specific case to be morally wrong, but not in such a way that I am in any way disappointed by their behavior. It may be different for you, but you'll have to excuse me for finding your language a bit dramatic.

Primary and initial blame is on the thieves. Sorry. That's absolutely inescapable. "They made it so easy that I couldn't NOT steal from them!" is not a valid defense. The software people are bound to get in trouble (and should) but to blame them over the people committing theft? Fuck no.

mine just keeps saying "Sorry, your request could not be processed at this time due to high traffic volume. Please try again later."

Oh well, was just going to give the code to a friend anyway

I imagine you'd want to take that up with a mod. It's probably allowed because the mod in question doesn't think this is a very big deal, which I would agree with.

My god! This may be the best post I've seen in awhile.

Thank you.

Some people used a code before I could. I don't really care, I can still get my XP buff. Those thieves paid as much for the codes as I did. You seem pretty upset, maybe a nice Red Bull Total Zero will help your nerves.

I'm pretty disgusted by all those trying to justify their fraud.

You don't like the system? Don't support the game by continuing to play it, you self-entitled shitheels.
