"Didn't even hit 2 million". lol

Do you realize how much two million in sales likely generates in income compared to the cost of porting? It probably only takes a few hundred thousand at most to make it worthwhile. If that.

I realize that there's a bigger differential this time around, but it's not so dramatic that a mega game like FFXV is going to go ignored. Again, you're buying way too much into platform stereotypes. Both PS4 *and* XB1 are selling at better rates than their predecessors. There will be a larger install base on release of this game than with FFXIII for either system.

It doesn't even have to be that extreme. What if both are very good games in their own way?

I'm not the one claiming XV will sell millions. I think one million would be a great result for XV on XBO and it will have to work hard to reach that. I'nm not buying into stereotypes, I'm looking at the splits we have on games released so far and trying to get a read on things from that. The XBO has good splits on sports and shooters. Everything else, not so much. Even western RPGs like The Witcher are selling better significantly on the PS4, so I imagine it will be even worse for JRPGs.

Even with an Xbox One, Tomb Raider ran so much better on PS4 that I'm willing to wait and see.

Hoping for 60 fps. After 60 fps on PS4, I just couldn't manage to play it on Xbox One at 30 fps.

Will buy it when it is on some flash sale for 15 dollars on PSN or Steam. I haven't even gotten around to playing the last one I did the same thing for. So a year really doesn't impact me too much.

That 2016 is going to be crowded as fuck. This game is going to get panned to death just like the late PS3 ports of Bioshock and ME. Hence the sale expectation.

The way AAA works now is that you have to make a big marketing campaign for the game in order to sell well. I'm pretty sure SE will not do that , not for 1 year old port.

For the record, I completely understand and have in fact already conceded that I don't think that the day 365 release of Tomb Raider on PS4 will sell anywhere near as well as the day 1 release would have. But there's a difference between asserting "it'd sell a hell of a lot more if it wasn't delayed" and "nobody is going to want to buy this a year late." And I understand that we're not talking literally nobody, but in the relative sense. However, I still think that's unfair.

The one year delay doesn't bother me. Too much to play. Will buy when the price is right. TR 2013 was quite enjoyable on the PS4 and I would like to play an improved sequel

Very curious to announce the exclusivity period before the game releases.

and the fact that PC and PS4 versions don't release at the same time is also very telling about this deal :-)

Do you not realize what the parentheses means?

EDIT: Forget it. I don't trust you at this point. I'd be willing to pay up, but somebody so twisting is not the type I'd trust to keep their end of the bargain.

We've gotten way off-topic at this point anyways.

I'll go in with you on the 2 million if you want. I think it may creep past a million. I don't think it will get close to two million

No one will care by then. They might as well keep it exclusive.
If they keep it exclusive then they're locking it onto the smaller install base, something they clearly don't want to ultimately do.

Honestly this deal looks worse and worse to me for the games prospects.

If they expect PS4 owners to pony up 60 bucks for a standard version a full year after the game releases, then lol.

Full DLC package included would be better, but I will still have the mindset of "I already waited a year, so I'll just wait longer and get it when it hits 20 bucks."

Weren't tons of people saying 6 months or less? Smart move by MS because the interest on PS4 will probably drop by then. It's shitty for those that were wanting to play it, though. I hope this trend doesn't become incredibly commonplace this gen.

Yep, this will be a game that you can get from probably 20 bucks in January of 2017. So if you can wait a year, I'm guessing you can wait another month or two to get it for a third of the price.

I'll be buying this day one for my Xbox one and waiting for the goty version of fallout 4 with all the dlc and bug fixes that will release 6 months after.

Regardless of Saturn, it's not like another Sega console was gonna pave the way for more Tomb Raider games.

It was also kept away from n64. And the deal was made when the competition was still strong. Looking back now is easy but not representative of the situation back then.

At that point, it'll be a one year old, story-based, late port. Unless the game turns out to be a critical darling, the average consumer won't see much benefit in waiting a year. Might as well buy an Xbox One (which Microsoft is hoping for) or just pull an Order and YouTube it. And if it's a $60 release? Forget about it.

It will perform alright in the regions where Xbox One is effectively dead. It will probably perform as well as a day 1 port in those regions and the PS4 version could very well be the only console version to release in those regions.

Damn right - it was clearly sarcasm.

Why are people saying that no one will buy this game when it releases on PS4? Is it because you think that they do not want to feel like second class? I have no problems buying a game a year or 5 later if the game is great.

Kudos for MS for securing it as an exclusive, but I can't help but wonder if SE is kicking themselves for taking the money and shaking on it.

I mean the game will sell way better if it was released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC all at once. This stagnated release benefits MS since they get a timed exclusive and, theoretically, more die hard TR fans who want to play the game as soon as possible to purchase a X1. While SE is wondering how much MORE would they have sold if they just went ahead and made it a multiplatform release.

I curious to see the sale's difference when RotR is finally released on PS4.

Yeah, it will most likely be a poor port as well because by then, Square will have all the money needed to go on and make the sequel I'm sure. It's just a quick cash grab that will be a bonus and it helps placate PS4 gamers from backlashing at this shoddy business deal.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Just look at GTAV on PC. People will buy a game on whatever system they have if it's good. It doesn't matter when it comes out.

There's also the fact the game will be releasing in the crowded period of the year, and with no advertising most people will opt for bigger releases, ignoring TR2.

Also in consoles, the software sales are usually front-loaded, only very few games have legs which all happen to be MP-heavy games. So TR2 being mostly an SP game, won't have legs to carry it in the less crowded periods.

Yeah. It's kind of strange. I understand not wanting to play the game late but totally not buying sounds really counterintuitive if you're really interested in the game in the first place.

Oh dont worry, like any other year, there will be tons of delays.

They were originally competing with Uncharted at launch, though. They're probably a little annoyed now that this game doesn't have that to compete with now.

I think you're being a little bit too harsh. It will still sell on the PS4, but no where near what it would have done if it was day and date.

Can just see it now.

Tomb Raider November 8th on PS4.

Last week in October - Games with gold are delighted to announced that the hit game Tomb Raider is coming free to Games with Gold for all gold members. It'll be available for the first half of November
