Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Playing some RB3 and man, Living in America is a fun song to play on keys and vox, despite not being particularly hard for either. It makes me sad that at launch we definitely won't have keys (or likely at all) and probably (definitely?) won't have the RB3 songs in RB4.

But on the other hand, I hadn't heard that song before the game came out and I love it, so I hope RB4 has lots of songs like that, that I don't know but can get into for how fun they are in game.

So I read this post thinking that the James Brown song was on RB and it had eluded me all this time.

Ugg. I want to play this game, but Oct. is a bad time for bills (Property tax), and I don't really want to buy an Xbone.

Do they only sell the game in bundles? And will they patch it to include keyboard? And what's this about a dongle?

A few disc export questions:
What Rock Band discs can still be exported?

Also what is needed to export the discs?

I had Rock Band 1 on the PS3, but now I have a Xbox One, so what exactly will I need to export the songs so they are available when Rock Band 4 comes out?

Unfortunately, owning the game on a different system in the previous generation means nothing. You're starting from scratch. RB1, and RB2 can be exported, but I believe you need the discs, and RB: Blitz will be available with a previous gen (but same manufacturer) purchase. For exact details, the Rock Band forums have it explained perfectly in a stickied topic.

Yeah I know I'm starting from scratch, just wanted to know what discs I needed to buy again. I'll check the Rock Band forum post.

I want the bundle, buy I'm not sure of I can buy it in October ($250 is just a bit much at that time). Anyone think they'll still be easy to get in December?

I imagine if you want to order it online it will be decently easy to get (assuming the game sells decently but not amazingly, as if it sells poorly support might dry up quickly and if it sells amazingly it might be rare)

I don't imagine many stores will carry them bundle in store though, takes to much space.

I had previously exported LEGO and RB1, on my PS3 but I deleted them later on due to hard drive space issues. Is it too late to get these back, and if it isn't can I get them without paying again if I just get the discs, or am I screwed?

You should be ok since you already did the export. The "purchase" should already be tied to your account.

Lego is just a download, so you're probably fine with that one. Rock Band 1 required the disc for export on PS360, but I imagine they're gonna change it to be more in line with the rest of the exports for Rock Band 4.

I've been trying to re-download the LEGO tracks but I can't find them on the damn blasted Sony download list. It wouldn't be too hard picking up RB1 from GS and trying the export again. Also, if I buy some of the Track Packs used, can I export those songs to RB3? I'd need a code, right? Probably one-time use, I imagine.

Another quick question is, I remember there being some Classical songs for DLC in RB3, anyone know if those are still available? I can't find them on RB.com or Wikipedia.

The classical stuff was on Rock Band Network.

Game will flop if that leaked set is real

Harmonix still don't get it even after the whole genre died years later

Where's the leaked setlist? I'm sure it's better than GHL setlist.

Edit: Fake.

Yeah I guess they don't get it by bringing all of your old dlc and letting you use your old instruments. Man they really are such morons.

If you truly believe you are getting all of your old DLC, man you are gonna be super disappointed when Rock Band 4 comes out. And I'm not saying he's lying, but a HMX employee saying the leak was fake doesn't necessarily mean it's fake. It could be 90% accurate for all we know. It definitely seemed like a list of songs the old HMX would think is fun to play.

Please tell me there is some more New Order coming. I spammed the song request site with their stuff, and I pray some others did as well.

And maybe some Joy Division to make everyone suicidal.
Love Will Tear Us Apart is on the RB store. One of many songs I thought I would enjoy playing, but is now collecting digital dust

A) I don't know what this list has anything to do with DLC at all.
B) We've got an army of people porting DLC tracks to new platforms and resubmitting them to their stores so people who purchased DLC previously can have it on their new consoles and that people who haven't purchased DLC previously (or owned the games) have a ton of songs they can purchase and play.
B) The list isn't real. Somebody made it up. That's not the game's soundtrack. Why would we lie about that?

You're making me sad.

Don't be sad, it's just someone talking on the Internet.

all I'm gonna tell you then is you've gotta show some respect to the people who have been playing since GH1/2/80s. Make a setlist that is actually fun and challenging to play on guitar and not just a game for "fun on drums"

I've got like 400+ DLC songs from PS3 and I didn't even bother with playing Rock Band 3 because you guys completely abandoned plastic guitarists. I kinda had the itch to play again but with you guys not making a clicky strumbar on your guitar again, and all the songs announced so far for the game.... yea I dunno about that. I'll be keeping an eye out but for now it seems like the same old Harmonix that put Cherub Rock in tier 8 for guitar difficulty.

and yea, Harmonix made me sad a long time ago. Protest the Hero got DLC in Guitar Hero fucking TWO and then you guys forgot that they exist apparently. But it's cool man we got Bad Romance.

With no keyboard support, I'll just wait until I eventually buy an Xbox One and play RB3 via backwards compatibility. I'll pick up some new guitars and a drum set, though, if I can find one.

A question, that I haven't seen asked yet. Will the songs that are now unavailable for purchase, but still available to download for buyers, still be available on Rock Band 4? It makes sense if they aren't, but it'd be nice.

Stop being a cock because your favourite band haven't got in yet. There are over 1500 songs available and that's not counting Rock Band Network. The Lady Gaga pack is 4 of them.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'll tell you that our team works incredibly hard to curate a soundtrack that appeals to a broad range of players, whether it's from the perspective of musical taste or fun (or challenging) gameplay on all instruments. You're not going to please everyone all of the time, clearly, but to say we're not respecting our players is a bit insane -- you're talking about a game/genre that was supported by us with consistent content releases long after we released a retail product and the game was written off as (over-exaggeration) "dead" to some.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "abandoned plastic guitarists" in terms of music, though. What exactly are you/were you looking for? Make it known and be specific. Again, we can't please everyone all of the time, but we can certainly listen and do our best to make the game (and content) better if we're doing something you think is wrong.

We should be able to make those available as hidden offers for folks who already own that content (meaning you can't buy it new, but you could redownload it). We're still working on ironing out a lot of specifics because nothing like this has been done on this scale (in terms of DLC/content ownership across generations), but that's the plan.

outside of the already announced songs I hope the fake setlist is pretty far off. Would love to see mastodon's oblivion though. I also hope there's more songs than that.

Okay, sounds promising. Best of luck you in this endeavour, you deserve for doing something as big as this for the long-time fans.

Will the 4 bonus preorder Amazon songs be available for purchase later? I want Failure by Breaking Benjamin badly, but not enough to forego my $26 Best Buy GCU discount.

It just feels that as someone who started with the guitar focused games, and someone who's favorite instrument is the guitar that the Rock Band games couldn't satisfy my needs without spending a ton on DLC (which I did as my previous post said, 400+ DLC on PS3) and often times playing online with friends I just felt bored playing through a lot of the charts. Obviously I switched instruments and really enjoyed the drums but guitar is always my #1 love and I'd rather be playing that. Looking back on a say, GH2, I can pick a random song from tier 2 or 3 like Search and Destroy by Iggy Pop and it's still a blast to play on top of being a good song. In RB1 and 2 that didn't exist and everything up until the very last tier was practically a sightread FC, which I'm not trying to stroke my dick, I would rather the game beat me up than the other way around and I have to work to achieve success. Overall there's just more quality and fun to be had on GH2/80s disc setlists than the RB games.

I'm cool with DLC being the way to play for me, but only if you plan to release a base version of the game for free and just have it be a DLC storefront. I don't really want to buy a $60 game for probably under five charts that I'd want to replay. And on the topic of hardware really quick, if there is no click I'm going to take my money somewhere else. I'm sure you guys noticed how many of the top players only use GH guitars :|

Talk about being entitled.

Sure thing, I just learned that word too. Also someone who has given Harmonix a lot of money over the past years.

I've given them tons of money as well, but I don't demand that song x is in the game, or tell them they're lying about the fake setlist or complaining that a strum bar doesn't click, which by the way the click is stupid imo, and yell that I'm not going to buy the game because of selfish reasons.

Hey Nick, let's see some Wishbone Ash in there. I know they're likely towards the bottom of the request list, but I'm sure they've accrued a respectable amount of inquiries over the years and more importantly, the band is totally down with being in video games.

Above all, they've got an endless list of stellar tracks across all instruments.

I know you probably hate this shit, but I can't help myself with all of the suggestions and requests flying about.

Probably in the minority here, but id love for more death metal/brutal metal/grindcore etc. to be on the disc or in the store in the future.

Bands such as Death, Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Obituary, Beneath the massacre, Morbid Angel, Decapitated etc. Stuff along those lines.

Only a handful of the heavier side of metal was ever released yet theres tons of random unknown indie/rock bands in the store.

Oh god id love for some super hard technical death metal

I'm not yelling at anyone, I'm just giving them a suggestion? A free version of the game with the DLC storefront so basically people could create their own setlist for RB4 is not really a bad idea, is it? I'm not asking for free songs or anything. My main beefs are just with the actual on disc RB games. They're dull and basically just a $60 pass for me to be able to buy DLC.

Really I just wanna play Rust in Peace again

So Rockband guitar songs are beneath your skill and dont challenge you. Thats unfortunate, but I still have a blast on RB3. I havent 5 starred everything on Expert, so I'm not a god like you. But I have a ton of fun on my guitar with RB3.

Guitar Hero Live wont get my money, for a couple of reasons. Dont like the new guitar, probably not compatible with the little amount of GH DLC I have, and I have way more songs on RB.

I definitely agree on the guitar clicky, though. I can play with the RB guitar, but its not as good as the guitar hero one.

EDIT: Then again, I want more Bullet for my Valentine and Paramore songs, so apparently I'm part of the problem =\ I love a wide variety of music. I enjoy playing Metallica, All That Remains and Three Days Grace. I also like some Taylor Swift now and then. I think they have done a wonderful job of catering to a broad audience. But to each their own

Since Nick is here please hear my prayers and bring us some Metallica DLC one day, maybe.

Also I need new songs listed.

do we know the extent of what the licensing was for metallica? I mean it definitely seemed exclusive to activision. But in the last 3-4 years due to Spotify and other streaming services a lot of companies have changed tunes. I wouldn't see it impossible to have Metallica in the future.

That deal with Guitar Hero is over now. As is most, if not all of the exclusive deals.

I was going to say that aerosmiths contract didn't expire till RB3 launch, but forgot that Activision dumped 7 mediocre GH games after 3 lol (Metallica being the only worthwhile one to me). EIGHT TITLES IN 3 YEARS! Thought it was a lot longer time period.

Fucking Activision murdered the genre, and I still don't forgive them for it. I'm honestly hoping for Beatles importing for RB4....but I know they really, really wanted to keep that game separate.

But yes, all the contracts should be up. I could see them renewing the original metallica pack that was pulled a couple years ago and hopefully putting up another pack.

I honestly would love to see a Reload 5 pack Fuel, Memory Remains, Unforgiven 2, Slither, and Devil's Dance

Yeah, I think it's to be expected that a guitar game with a guitar-based soundtrack is going to satisfy guitar gameplay more than a game that's trying to balance gameplay across guitar, bass, drums, and vocals/harmony. If you're hoping for a Rock Band disc setlist to be like a Guitar Hero setlist, sorry but you're just not going to get it, and you'll have to settle with the hundreds of DLC songs out there that are great on guitar.

But with RB4 they're adding the most they've ever added to guitar gameplay with the freestyle solos, so who's to say you won't be able to manage some fun fooling around with that feature on the easier songs on the setlist? (Well, unless you're one of those people not even willing to give a new feature a chance I suppose.)

This would be awesome. I'm still sad how the genre was on its way out when it released. We could have gotten Revolver DLC and more :(
