Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

I hope this game has the costoizable colors thing that x tekken has, or includes a metric crap ton of colors with each costume.

Or both, it could totally do both

Doubt Alex will make it in the initial roster

We already have Ken with the same hairstyle. As well as more blondes such as Cammy, Charlie, Birdie.

We also already have 2 grapplers. Necalli and Birdie.

Finally Ken and Charlie are enough US characters. We don't need another. We need more diversity in nationalities.

I liked the color edit thing in SFxTK alot, but i kinda doubt it will come back. Better be ready to buy all those colors and costumes with ya Fight Money!

By this logic, wouldn't putting 3S characters into V be the opposite of "exciting new playstyles", and in fact, shoehorning them into a new game?
As Scotia mentioned, no, because they've had a mere fraction of the exposure the "iconic" cast has.

An example would be excluding Necro in favor of Blanka, Dhalsim or both. Necro is a character that takes both their strengths and compensates for their weaknesses. He's a two-for-one, and offers the playstyles of both characters while only taking up one spot.

But he's not "iconic."

After playing SFxT I never want to see color customization again

The neon Kens still haunt my dreams
I loved it, I love it in tekken to. I would be sick if they went tekken and you could fenegale outfits together

Costumes, sure. Colors hmmm, they better be cheap. And In bulk.

Alex and Urien have very good chances of making it in. Both are pretty Key story characters WRT the Illuminati.

But I still think we are getting at least 1 more SF2 character.

Apart from electric , he shares nothing else with blanka.

Of course we'll get at least 1 more SF2 character and depending on the green, we might 3!

Necro plays nothing like Blanka lol.

Agreed , But I just cant seen them not throwing in ANY SF4 character. And yea agreed , Necro also pretty much plays nothing like Sim too , stretchy arms =/= same.
If I were to place bets I really think its going to be Sim,Blanka and maybe Gief? Game might be a bit grappler heavy.

Na I am 100% confident that the 2 slots between Charlie an Birdie will be returning characters no in SF4.

It's either or. If the Green is SF2 characters than the blue is obviously everything else that isn't new. Like why would it exclude SF4 characters? There's no logic to that.

All this talk about blond hair made me think about it, and 3 of the 4 guys I want most to be added have blond hair, (Eagle, Alex & Abel) and the forth has blond hair in his intro. (Urien)

And Charlie is my favorite character.

SFV: Blond Bombshells

im pretty sure Capcom doesn't include or exclude characters based on hair color

Alex will be in the game if they want him too... regardless of their being 2 blonde characters in the game or 10 blonde characters

and based on the billboard of him it seems like its pointing that way

I just can't wait to see what the new characters will be like. 3 more characters of unknown origins.

Also, we're definitely getting Alex for sure.

just like it was mentioned earlier....Alex is like the most important character of all of SF, story wise when it comes to the Illuminati

since SF V seems to be getting in towards the rise of the Illuminati it makes perfect sense to have Alex in it

Not really seeing as 80% of 3S characters haven't been seen since the 90s (with many having unique playstyles and moves) yet ALL of SF2's sameold roster was in SF4. The SF2 cast are shoehorned more than any SF game's roster. At this point adding old 3S characters not in 4 would be new and exciting playstyles.

Yes, but if the assertion is that "SF2 cast was forced into SF4 and that was hackneyed", then why wouldn't that also apply to 3S? Because SF2 characters were also represented in spin-off games? If so, how many games would it take for SF3 characters to become hackneyed?

Most of the good 3S designs were in 4 anyway. The few that weren't will probably come back sometime.

I don't remember ever seeing an aesthetically pleasing custom color set while playing online. I did see a lot of characters wearing the Aurora Borealis, though.

My hope is that there's just a ton of color combinations to unlock for each costume.

Pretty sure announcer-san just says "You Win" or "You Lose", never calling out the name of the character at the end of a match.

Been reading a lot of that too. So for now Cody's chances of being in are as much as Alex, Mika or Karin.

I doubt it's true but the announcer does say "Necali Wins" at the end of his trailer.

Good point, but keep in mind that the beta may be an older build that didn't have character names recorded in it. So final release will feature announcer saying character names.

Maybe it just says "You win/lose" for online and"[Character] wins" for local multiplayer.

I just hope Poison, Makoto, Sean, C. Viper and Juri will turn up either in the initial line up or as DLC. I really liked that line-up in Street Fighter IV.

So, not sure what to think of it but I bumped into a friend of mine I've not seen for a while who's pretty well connected as far as fighting games go and we got chatting. He basically told me that Rainbow Mika is 100% in. He said a bit more than that but that's what it boils down to and that's she's far enough along to be playable. I guess I could've asked more but I didn't want him to think I was only catching up so I could pump him for info so I kinda left it at that :P
I don't have any reason to doubt him as he's always been trustworthy buuuuut... feel free to suspicious of this little bit of hearsay :o

...now I'm just sitting here wishing I'd asked him more @.@

Please be true.

You didn't think to get his e-mail or whatsapp contact or something XD

Oh I know how to contact him, no issue there, but again I don't like pushing my luck on this stuff. I'm pretty bad at keeping in touch in general so if I suddenly got all chatty with him online on the tail of this I'd be afraid of him taking it as me just wanting to milk deets from him and I'd rather not do that. I value my friendships more than finding stuff out early :P As my mother has said on several occassions: "you'd make for a terrible spy" XD
To be honest I was kinda tempted not to post about it as I worry about sharing stuff like this. People trust me for a reason after all :3 I figured I knew so little on this that it wouldn't be any harm though and for all I know the reason they knew might be the same as siliconera knows :o

Would there be any benefits if SF5 had a rotating roster? Maybe having different characters available quarterly? Characters having an expiration date could be exciting if you think about it.

it'd be interesting and I'd be ok with it, but based on what they've said publicly so far it doesn't sound like they're going that route :o

What's exciting about not being able to master a character since he/she might be gone eventually? Not to mention who would even buy DLC?

Also a competitive metagame that just randomly shifts would be terrible.

Oh... I thought we were only talking about free peeps, like in LoL and stuff, not the roster you already 'own' XD

This is just the type of thing I think needs to be talked about. I think it could work in a real competitive since too. Who can master a character the fastest in a release window and such. I see lots of competitive angles in this model too.

No one can master characters in shorts amounts of time, that's not how fighting games work. Not to mention a random rotating roster throws balance out of whack since who knows what kinds of match ups will arise? Plus what about unfair quarters by having a top tier character come back with weaker characters alongside him/her, giving people that practiced him/her the first time around an unfair advantage?

And who would be pleased with cutting up a character roster? People want more characters, not less.

If she really get in and she is a lot of fun to play with, I think I'm definitely going to use her for easy salts since apparently some people really hate her so much.

There's too many fan favorite characters that people would not want to see gone. Let alone fighting game characters take more time to development than MOBA characters.

This could be its own form of entertainment voting on the rotating roster. It could be fun guys. The rule could be to rotate four characters in and out quarterly.

As I've said many times before, I was going to use her regardless, but knowing that people for some reason hate her so much will make my victories that much sweeter.

It'll be like when I used to main El Fuerte in the early days of SSFIV, only better because I'll be using a character I actually like.
