Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

His teleport as V-Skill would make sense. I dunno how I feel about Demon as his V-Trigger though. I'd either keep Demon as his regular super unless he gets his 3s (air) fireball super back. Or they could give him his KKZ back but make it comboable like it was in SFxT. I'd be okay if his V-Trigger turns him into Shin Akuma or something. Double air fireballs and other specials turning into EXs and stuff until his bar runs out.
His demon flip could be a good V-skill. Similar to birdies hold a direction and get a different variation.

I really dislike taking away a special move to make it a v-skill. I'd much rather people retain specials and make the v-skill unique.

Cammy main since ST and I hate that spin knuckle is her v-skill. With the speed it has now, it'd actually be super useful to be able to 2-in-1 into. Should have given her something else.

Not to troll, but from a character design standpoint I feel like the EX series had more iconic characters than the IV series. Now, obviously IV is much more popular and a much better game, but I had recently uncovered EX2 from my parents house and was having a blast playing as Volcano Rosso before I went to bed last night. I feel like Arika should just charge the $100 bucks or whatever nominal fee for Capcom to own those characters and have them as DLC down the line. #skullo4ever

How many actual slots are open up, if the leaks are 100% accurate? I'd be a little disappointed if there wasn't at least one more surprise returning character out of the blue.

there's no accurate leak. I don't get the rest of your post. Capcom told us how many characters will be in the game and how many of them are brand new. I'm sure you can figure it out.

They can add a move to replace the V-Skill. I think the V-Skill works to designate moves with weird properties so the player automatically knows it is special. Although I agree Spin Knuckle doesn't feel like that kind of move.

I really don't like Skullomania, but I would love Hokotu, Pollum, Darun, and C.Jack in a proper SF. One where everybody doesn't have the 80% of the same normals, links, and special cancel into super, super, super. lol

Akuma had KKZ in SFxT?

GIVE ME MY GODDAM ONI OR SHIN AKUMA.

Well, sort of I guess. That ground pound thing looked similar to a more obnoxious KKZ.

I feel you though. I totally get the sentiment that people are sick of Akuma because how good he usually is and that he's just another shoto, but he's been my man since the Alpha days and I think he's a badass character. If he's not in the original cast, at least give me Urien.

Yeah I mean the EX series is like a completely different ballgame as far as complexity and intricacies (an understatement) but I was surprised to remember how cool the aesthetics of the character designs were.

I think it was just too soon. I love the games, and agree many of the characters are awesome. Shame they're stuck with Arika, because they could be really cool in these more fleshed out SF games.

Oh no, I love Akuma. I just feel like Akuma should be advancing to new heights with every game. When I see a "new" Akuma that's just the old Akuma, I think "did he quit training?" I want to see him with new crazy tools in each game. I want Shin/Oni as a V-Trigger because I think they could bring the cray.

My friend and I kinda talked about this a week ago. I think that Akuma/Gouki should take on more traits from his Shin Akuma/Oni incarnation. Just enough without overdoing it. but yeah.

Random thought: while Capcom has a massive backlog of characters they could slowly drip feed us as DLC, has anyone else pondered if they might also add brand new characters beyond the starting roster as DLC? Or more specifically, how often?
I don't know how long it takes them to concept up, approve and flesh out a character so it's something I find somewhat intriguing :3

I'm sure we'll get a few new characters thrown in there.

The model they're doing pretty much demands a slow drip feed of characters as opposed to full-on expansion updates.

What do people think of Necalli? Not really sold on him although this V-Trigger when he gets that red hair does look dope. Hoping for a boxer in this game that isn't Balrog. Dudley or a new Boxer (with Dudleys playstyle).

Oh, I know, I was just curious how often there'd be new peeps in the drips. I think most people are thinking of returning vets they want when they set their thoughts to the model :3

He looks cool enough. I'd never play him but he looks like he'd appeal to the folk who like evil and/or feral characters :3

I mostly just wonder when they'll show mika, if Karin's in the start roster and what the remaining 3 new characters are like :o

I like him. He seems interesting enough for me to pick and play.

Love Necalli. I honestly cannot wait to try him out, I just really did fall in love the design the more and more I kept watching his trailer. It got me pretty excited for the three new characters in the future because if the design for Necalli.

My hopes for SFV roster are Karin, Sakura, and Juri for a top three. I think Juri has an awesome design(aesthetic and fight style) and is definitely my favorite new character from IV. I like that Sakura has her own twist on the shoto style. I love Karin, just purely as an archetype which I love, (blonde, haughty, rich girl) as well as having a pretty sick but simple fighting style. Of course the sort of second generation of Ryu and Ken between the two of them (Sakura and Karin). Also I would love to be able to keep up my trend of my mains in fighting games being blonde girls.(Lili from Tekken, Noel from BB, Marie Rose from DOA). Karin's possibility of being in the roster I am given ever so slight hope for just from some of Sakura's win quote's, texting or getting an invitation from Karin, gives me hope their willing to mention her(I know that's reaching) but yeah highly anticipating more of the roster being unveiled.

You seem to be contradicting yourself. How can EX characters be more "iconic" if they are not as popular as mainline SF characters? I don't think you know what the word iconic means, based on your usage of it here.

Nothing in EX series is more iconic than the original cast of SF. The 8 world warriors + final 4 are far better known, even to the general public who don't really play fighting games.

Check yourself, because it seems like you've been spending far too much time on the Internet in a vacuum, to come to a conclusion like this.

What's not to get? The "surprise returning characters" part? I mean a character that you didn't expect to see, like Birdie, who I'm sure no one expected to see again.

I'm sure there will be a few returning staples but I really prefer if the rest of the roster wasn't filled characters like E. Honda and Blanka. Room for more at least or two more obscures like Q or Sean would be great.

I can tell you and I are going to get along :3

Never been a fan of Sakura personally, but if everyone liked the same stuff life would be boring :P

well there's no accurate list or anything.

How is having fewer features a sign of higher power?

GIVE ME MY GODDAM ONI OR SHIN AKUMA.

Fewer? Akuma had three supers available at all times in 3rd Strike. Every other character had one.

He plays by another set of rules from the other characters. That's why he was so cool in 3s.

Imagine he has no V-gauge but he has 5 EX stocks and a bunch of supers or something. Or he has no V-gauge but can just V-Trigger whenever he wants for free.

To clarify, meant to say I find the EX characters more visually arresting, and interesting as character designs. The EX series itself is really remedial and dated as far as gameplay mechanics, and in its day paled in comparison to the Alpha and III series, so there's really no question why the Arika characters aren't as popular as the mainline characters. I love the Street Fighter III design sensibilities too, but IV's new characters are a bit gaudy.

Necalli is the only revealed character I want to play right now. Dude dunks people with his command grab.

well there's no accurate list or anything.
Bogard said 4 new characters and the names Laura, Rachid and Zen.
Considering he predicted the v-trigger system by name, the dlc model and a few other things with 100% accuracy I'd say the characters he mentioned are incredibly likely.

Also, Siliconera has a good track record of accurate leaks and mentioned Alex, Urien, Karin and R. Mika. I know it doesn't mean much to anyone else but a personal source concurring that Mika was in and already far enough along to be playable lends extra weight to that for me :3
Admittedly I don't know if/how many of these 4 are going to be in the 'core' release roster though.

Well besides the new characters I mean, but you can't really say anything about them. I don't believe the Siliconera stuff any more

Oh yeah, it's all about the aesthetic for me. I only play characters that appeal to me, it's not about tools or tier, of course I'm no competitive player but I do like fighting games a lot, I also like a lot of characters actually, I would consider myself pretty easy to please. But of course finding someone with similar taste's is certainly a treat :)

I like juri because they basically threw kazuya mishima into jolyne kugo and that came out. That said her concept art should be characters

Oh wow, I haven't got far enough in Jojo's to see her but now that you've pointed Jolyne out the inspiration is incredibly clear. Seems the Jojos in Street Fighter never ends XD

Ooh once you make that comparison that is pretty great. I really like Kazuya's design, very fierce. I hear a lot the people are annoyed by Juri's voice, what do you think, personally I don't have any problems with it.

I don't have any issue with it... in japanese :P
Her english VA is somewhat annoying though, just because they seem to have replaced some of her general yells with actual lines which can get repetitive real fast ("why you! why you! why you! why you!")

I think that's for her English voice, which I also don't like at all. I leave it on her Japanese voice.

Her japanese voice is fine.

Her english is, servicable. But it suffers from " it sounds like an older person trying to do young man voice" that and the reverse are easy for me to notice when its bad, and sometimes you hear with English juri. I think the english voice talent for Chun li , cammy, and viper were on point though. Ibuki is pretty ok, sometimes you get some bad direction on lines, i kinda like makoto's. Sakura's is just kind of bad a lot of the time, it just sounds like she's just saying lines. I dunno what in the world they were thinking rose. Poison also kind of suffers from " you sound old " but its alright.

Rambling brings me to my next point, so like for folk who dig english dubs, anyone have an voice actor changes they want in 5? Or voice actors for new folk like nicalli

Obviously wouldn't mind if Juri switched VA's. ( MAKE HER CREE SUMMERS )

I wouldn't mind of necalli was voiced by sean schemmel

Kazuya is nothing like her.

Kaz has chill. SHE HAS NO CHILL.
Kaz is way more classy. She is an animal. Yea, not seeing any similarities other than a weird eyeball...

But she doesn't wear what Kazuya is wearing.

White and purple themed Just karate pants, she kind of really does, they just made it chaps and her belt longer. But like if yous showed me her design, never told me she was a street fighter character and said, this is a new tekken character and this is kazuya's child. I would believe that shit.

Kazuya is nothing like here.

Yes kazuya is the coolest, ever and is a satan . I know but , you can be inspired by folk and not be like folk

See guile stroheim
Necalli and Cars
Deadpool and Deathstroke.

Its the look not the attitude.

Vega would be cool to see in SFV just because they absolutely had no clue or care with what to do with him in SF4. So many garbage moves and really stingy balancing. His overhead not actually being an overhead in vanilla was just so funny and telling.

Guy's been mentioned a lot in here lately. He'd he be probably be cool because he's one of Combofiend's favorite characters, I think(?).

Why would you remove the backflips lol. Those plus his walk speed are why he's my favorite character to play as. Playing defensively makes sense for a bullfighter too, as does being annoying.

Agreed. I wouldn't want them to get rid of the essence of his style, but he definitely needs some new life in him.

A ratio of 3:1. Three existing and one original chararcter for the first few waves of DLC At least.
