Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

So MIDI adapter at launch is dead, huh? Did they announce if it will come out at all? Or if I can use the old one?

This really deflates my hype levels :(

My own personal 5 pack?

"Ain't It Fun" by Paramore
"Let The Flames Begin" by Paramore
"Part II" by Paramore
"Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" by My Chemical Romance
"Unavoidable" by Neon Trees

Does the fact the last-gen instruments are compatible mean the resell value of the older ones will go up? Went from Xbox to PS4 this gen and have old instruments taking up space!

They need to give us some more information soon about what this process is going to look like. I am willing to spend the money to get the full band pack for this if 95%+ of all of my songs carry over. But if I am missing everything from RB 3 or have to pay again to get my RB2 and RB1 songs, then I will probably skip it.

The process is: you redownload it on your new console. There's no "transferring" content. These are different files that were created for Rock Band 4 and were resubmitted for both platforms.

When the RB2 and RB1 content is made available for RB4 (i.e. it's up on the MS and Sony servers), if you've previously exported/paid for and exported that content, you will be able to redownload it for free. The same goes for DLC. We don't have plans to support RB3 disc export right now.

alright GAF, lets try this,

everyone post a 5 pack of songs that they would like to see in the game. Only post 1 for now. It can be mixed, it can be the same band. Let's not do whole albums for now.

But I'll take the list and make it into a Spotify playlist when I can and keep adding to it. It will be GAF's wishlist :)

Thanks for putting this together. I've been enjoying it so far. My five songs would be as follows:

"Doctor Worm" - They Might Be Giants
"This Modern Love" - Bloc Party
"The Impression That I Get" - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
"Let's Groove" - Earth, Wind, & Fire
"Born to Run" - Bruce Springsteen

"Endless Story" by REIRA starring YUNA ITO
"Connect" by Claris
"Dramatic" by YUKI
"Make Me Wonder" by Maroon 5
"Suki de, Suki de, Suki de" by Koda Kumi

"Your Ex-Lover is Dead" Stars
"This Modern Love" Bloc Party
"Modern Man" Arcade Fire
"Hopeless" The Wrens
"Man" Neko Case
"Hustle Rose" Metric

Also, any word when we'll be able to preorder just the game?

We don't have plans to support RB3 disc export right now.
:( Please change your plans! No more Bohemian Rhapsody, 25 or 6 to 4, Break on Through, Crazy Train, Du Hast, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Free Bird, Plush, The Power of Love, Roundabout, Smoke on the Water, Whip It and more in Rock Band make me sad. I would think this could work out at least on XBox 360 by checking if Rock Band 3 digital purchase is on a gamertag's download/purchase history you could allow them to purchase the export code (like for all other Rock Band disc games) for whatever you want to charge or if someone has the disc-based version they could use the unique code you guys printed on every manual to unlock the purchase of the export code.

Dark Matters would be so fucking fun to play. Duplicate Keys Icaro was my Propagandhi choice, but in a perfect world the whole album would be on there.

Damn rights man. I would love to get the whole Propagandhi collection going, but I'd be happy to have almost anything by them. Dark Matters is just such a great song, I figured it was a good choice. I love Duplicate Keys though, I actually jam it with my band. That would probably be one of my other top choices, but I also tried to choose something that I could probably keep up with when drunk ;), as that seems to be the way I roll when Rock Band emerges these days.

According to a developer at Harmonix, Breakneck speed will be in the game at launch. I personally don't use it, but I know some of you do.

Agreed that the Rock Band 3 soundtrack has some incredible songs on it. The reality is, getting music for a disc and getting music for DLC (or in this case, digital export... still downloadable -- there's actually a difference... don't ask) requires two separate licenses. This not only means an additional cost on our end to license the music, but additional work on our end to get it done (i.e. more money). We were able to offer disc export at a small fee previously because we could make a business case for the audience being there (and importing) to cover the costs. That's what those "export fees" were; we weren't just being greedy or evil.

At launch, we're laser focused on what we know we can do within reason at first and cover the most ground, and right now, RB3 tracks aren't part of that plan. But of course, this could change in the future . We're trying to do as much as we can to respect customer purchases and bring over a lot of content. One thing (or many, many things with more to come) at a time.

Keep in mind, a lot of this thinking applies to other features you're asking about that may or may not be in the game at launch. Lots of stuff to do and we'll get to most of if, but it's a big project. It's also a live service game, which means we plan to continue updating it (read: making it BETTER AND BETTER) after launch.

Also, yeah, stop yelling at us about Breakneck Speed. ;)

so I have a couple of random questions for you.
First how are the preorders doing for you guys? are they on par with what you were expecting or better or worse?
second do you have a target sales number for this year, or a minimum number that you have to reach to continue to support the game beyond this year?
finally, ice cream or bacon?

- Let's just say people are psyched about Rock Band 4. ;)
- Can't discuss numbers, but we're realistic and have a good business plan going forward to support Rock Band for long after launch.
- Depends no the time of day. Ice cream right now .

Since you're here, any word on USB controllers like the ION Drum Kit?

I have the utmost faith in the team at Harmonix, but I'm concerned about not being able to take my band online to play with friends from around the globe when the game launches.

I really like the idea of "no current-gen sequels" so the team can just focus on adding more songs and features to the game.

I would also appreciate being able to play my RB3 songs someday and I know it would never happen if Harmonix was busy making "Rock Band 5" instead of continuing to support RB4!

p.s. sell the new microphone separately! I realize physical retail space is limited but at least sell it online ;)

Gotcha, this makes sense. Thanks for explaining to me parts of the process I didn't know about/never realized. I was just hoping it wasn't a "well all RB3 songs had keys and pro guitar and we are not including those instruments at launch/ever? so let's not worry about those songs" kind of attitude as there are still great songs on the setlist that would be fun on the instruments that are included in RB4.
I'm sure everyone having a feature/song/export they are clamoring for must be difficult to prioritize what to add and what not to add and difficult decisions had to be made. Like others have posted, I am really happy to hear about the approach Harmonix is taking with updating this current game/platform by adding features rather than making another game after game. Also, I'm really glad to hear that pre-orders are doing very well. That just means there is more of a chance that the stuff I want in RB4 will someday be added! I am getting RB4 digitally and the only thing I NEED to play on day one is going to be the XBox 360->XB1 dongle so that's the main thing I am hoping for more information.

It's such a bummer dic songs are licensed differently. For RB3
I would have rathered RB3 as a cheap digital core game with some indie tracks, than $60 for a huge setlist forever trapped on disc.

ah thanks for the quick response. I figured you couldn't share actual numbers but it is good to hear things are looking well preorder wise.

Is the game going to be able to automatically pull my previously purchased songs for me? Because I've honestly bought entirely too many songs to know which ones to go into the store and look for and it'd be really time consuming.

they are going to be new downloads that the price will be free if you owned them on the previous console...

aka it's most likely going to be a really time consuming thing to get all of your songs back.

God, I really hope not. Because that's what his previous statement sounded like to me. I have a lot of songs and individually redownloading them all would be a real pain. I really want there to just be an option in the store to just get all my stuff back.

Hopefully it's an easy process, I have metric ass-ton of Xbox 360 rock band songs that I'll want to download when I get Rock Band 4.

I'm hoping they'll just appear on my download list.

As an FYI, here's more info on the original source of the 30 bonus songs you get for pre-ordering the game courtesy of some reddit users. A lot of these songs are already available for free if you exported RB1, or RB2:

Rock Band Network:

Blanks. "Lodger"
DnA's Evolution "The Heist"

we will have to see, but I would prepare to have to spend a lot of time redownloading stuff manually given what they have said.

mic - yes
drums - no (currently no wired instruments other than mics will be supported)

Thanks for the answer. Do we know why that is? I would hope that changes as it should just be a software issue. I think the mic is enough for me for now, so I will pre order the guitar bundle and just hope the drums are eventually made compatible or bite the bullet and buy them standalone down the line.
