Final Fantasy XV 'Dawn' trailer

Are we even sure that's Regis?

My initial reaction to the trailer was that this dude is his biological father about to give him up to be raised by Regis. Can someone that knows more about the game tell me I'm wrong? I haven't followed it a whole lot.

Reminds me of those creepy wax museum statues.
It's the way the eyebrows and wrinkles move.

Was my first assumption to, is this guy confirmed to be Regis? I mean different hair aside he has a completely different facial structure.

The hysteria over a 3 minute trailer, designs of characters, and marriages is really sad folks. There's something really wrong in this thread.

Agreed.

Let's at least wait for the ATR. Meanwhile, this was a welcome refreshin change of pace compared to the latest trailers and media info.

The arranged marriage plot seems interesting to me. It always ends up really bizarre provided they don't just drop it.

The facial animations and skin rendering look fantastic imo. Totally looks like the skin is actually a soft, realistic additional tissue layer, instead of just a texture applied to a model.

Yeah, Square Enix still can keep up with the best of them when it comes to tech.

Did Noctis's father just whisper? I mean, why is he not voiced? I would not mind hearing the japanese VA.

I'm calling bs on the "redesign" theory, it seems that this is his real father and the old one might be his stepdad or something.
Tales from my ass, but hey.

This. If he wasn't redesigned then he would age like this which makes no sense.

The second picture is just 2-3 years after the first one.

I knew I wasn't crazy, with all the changes made, I wouldn't be surprised if he becomes the new Regis.

I like the old one much better, but I digress, facial animation looks great and we didn't get Duscae 3.0 trailer, success!

It's Regis. Clearly. And if he was redesigned (which actually looks more like it), so what? Is this gonna ruin your anticipation for this game?

Yes.

He's gone from looking like a Yakuza boss to some crusty old dude from The Order 1886.

Tabata needs to chill the fuck out with all these random changes.

Tabata already said they changed literally everything about the character to the point where it wasn't Stella. Stella was a warrior with powers. Luna is, from what i'm seeing here, the absolute opposite of that with no power, or much strength. Stella was supposed to meet Noctis at a party where they struck up a relationship in secret even though their countries were at war. Luna is already betrothed to Noctis apparently.

Its all different, the game, the story and the feel.

ahh the old story sounds so awesome :/

Looks like this was just a way for them to show off "OMG LOOK HOW REALISTIC HIS FACE LOOKS" due to how fucking long that scene lasted, jeez.

Also what's with the dog?

What a bad trailer.

Well, that's a problem on your end. NOT Tabata's.

I'm done with this thread. I'll wait for the ATR in the morning.

That's what I thought too at the beginning but it doesn't really seem to make sense in other ways.

you see character refinement lots these days. Elena from uncharted changes from game to game, the MC from quantum break changed in the new trailer.

This shit was booty cheeks and we didn't even get a release date out of it. If you're going to put out a piece of promotion material that bad you mind as well let people know when it might come out.

Quoted for truth. The dream is dead.

I meant it being a different character doesn't make sense. I definitely think that's Regis.

Actually now that I think about it, it could all just be random with Tabata not knowing how to make a trailer properly. Fuck it I don't know anything.

Personality and agency are the concern with Luna. The arranged marriage doesn't surprise or concern me.

Agreed, there is still too little to go on, and ultimately the arranged marriage is just her backstory.

The real concern is where they go from there. Ok, she "dies", then what?

"Hey guys, how do we celebrate the launch of official promotion for Final Fantasy XV?"

"I know! Let's make a 3 minutes trailer where Noctis clings onto Regis for 2 minutes, with dialogue not even voice acted! Then give it a pretentious trailer name, like uh, like Dawn! They'll love it very much."

*fast forward*

I'm excited to see more. I have no doubt there will be something to get everyone excited at the ATR.

Regis looks very interesting and unique, a real step up from the (admittedly somewhat "cooler") design seen in previous trailers. I find it somewhat strange that there is actually backlash. That said, I really think a design adhering more closely to that seen previously is what we'll be seeing on contemporary Regis.

The circumstances of the Luna/Stella meeting may have changed, but it's impossible to really say if the dynamic or her own personality are any different than what was shown back in the Versus days, particularly considering we have yet to see even a single instance of dialogue or characterization since the shift to XV. I think a lot of people are going to pleasantly surprised come release – but, then again, this the Final Fantasy fandom we're taking about...

I take it the old guy is not Regis... maybe some knight who is the real father of Noctis, and offers him up to Regis who raises him as his own son.

But then again I was sure that Stella wasn't cut from the game either, so what do I know.

The problem isn't that there is a lack of gameplay or pew pew but rather there is zero damn context for any of these scenes. It could be an advertisement for a fantasy book for all that was presented here. There is no narrative presented to the audience but a number of seemingly random scenes.

This might have worked if the trailer was longer or the text wasn't vague as fuck.

The issue is a larger thing where this is becoming a different game then the one we were excited for.

Like in the end it seems more that it should of been said plainly that FF V-13 was scrapped but elements of it were reused in the creation of FF15

When everything is duscae, and the rest of gamescom showings have been announced to be Duscae, Square skipping E3 to do a "full marketing push" for XV at gamescom. People were hoping for a decent trailer showcasing various different areas/part of the game, or a more in-depth story trailer showcasing various different parts of the game. Instead they got a trailer that shows a man hugging his son for 90 seconds straight. A scene that would be fine in the game itself, but not something most people want from a trailer.

I... I liked that trailer. Hopefully they nail the somber mood they keep presenting, because it could be pretty neat if it all works out. Cutscene looked nice too.

It's painfully obvious that fate/destiny will somehow separate them, so for now all he can do to be with his son is told hold him and cry, knowing what's to come.
