Metal Gear Solid V: Gamescom Gameplay Demo

People question the ridiculousness of a worm hole in a series known for funny ridiculous items like that? Same series that has a bandana which grants you infinite ammo, peace Walker had stealth guns in the 70s. Accept the crazy and enjoy the ride.

Someone complained about Snake wearing a hat....people are fucking weird.

You get notified of an intruder but you have no idea where he is. This seemed pretty clear in the video. You're alerted to the intrusion, and then you see a friendly get CQC'd behind a container. After this he gets tagged.

I wonder if they set it up like the table in Dragon Age: Inquisition? Set the clock ahead and DING, mission complete. Would be funny if they do tie it to the system clock.

Considering that MGS3 let you kill The End by messing with your PS2's clock...

One thing I noticed was the massive advantage for the defender and his FOB. Now that's to be expected but they mentioned the importance of the attacker not being seen to success.

That being said, a BIG question I have is whether or not the owner of a FOB gets notified the second you step on their FOB no matter what. I really hope that isn't true. If you get detected at all while attacking a FOB, THAT's when it should notify the defender. Otherwise it doesn't seem fair. If you can really sneak all the way to the core without detection, you earned it and the defender needs to make better defenses. It seems like if you warn the defender no matter what, it kills some of the fun for attackers.

Also, I really hope the PSN friends list tells you what the player is doing in the game. The SECOND I see you in a last game mission, your ass is getting invaded.

The tension is in the defender knowing you're there, but not knowing where. In the demonstration the attack was very aggressive, and constantly showed himself. The real skill will lie in being able to knock out/kill guards and not getting detected. MB is pretty big, and other than the bubbles of where the enemy may be, it might be very possible to sneak by without being detected.

It's the ultimate MGS challenge @_@

I was wow'ed by the demo, looks great. Anyone else turned off a bit by wormholes??... I mean, i thought the game was supposed to be at least semi realistic.

edit: I guess if I think about nano-machines, giant mechs, LaLiLuLeLo, wormholes are not a far cry lol.

Too many gamers had Time Paradoxes and/or Fission Mails

That's what it sounded like to me. I hope that's the case.

Would be unfair though wouldn't it, especially if the invader hasn't been seen. Then all you have to do is go somewhere high and look for your soldiers or equipment being fultoned to get an idea of where the intruder is. It would be better if you only got an alert when your base was on alert, if they can best your whole security system to reach the goal unseen that seems like fair game.

I wonder if we'll be able to steal back our exact resources, it would be pretty cool if one of your elite soldiers was taken and assigned to the invaders FOB and you could go back to rescue them.

Edit: WHOOP! Member status!

I will never finish this game =(.
MB will be like a 100hrs+ gameplay by itself...or endless if the MP is that good.

I'm taking a stay-cation from Aug 31 to Sep 4, and then Monday Sep 7 is a holiday. But I have a feeling I still won't have finished the story when I go back to work.

Which, the first or second scenario? I hope you can just full stealth it without the other player knowing if you are good enough.

Definitely the invader getting detected being what alerts the defender. The other way around would stack things in favour of the defender a wee bit too much.

Yup. Totally agree.

I expected Motherbase to be detailed, but holy fucking shit somehow I am both not surprised and completely surprised.

It's Kojima.

And this is his magnum opus, just as MGS3 was the peak of the series for me, it looks like this game might top it.

DAT SCORE. I'm pretty sure this is the first time we've really heard any of the music.

The series has been getting goofier and goofier. Its current level of goofiness is almost parody levels now.

Something like a wormhole strikes me as goofy in ways that Psycho Mantis and Volgin never did.

Ah, yes. That's what I'm hoping for.

The goal should be to properly construct a base with defenses to catch people or expose them.

How is....what...

How the hell can this game be on PS3/360?!

After I'd played many hours of GZ on PS4, I borrowed the PS3 version out of curiosity, I had to see how it compared. It was shocking. It literally made me feel like something was wrong with my eyes.

A flying psychic and a 6'7" Russian Raichu in human form aren't nearly as goofy as a wormhole like ooook tbh

I really hope they let us use our on MP3 files on the PC version.

Really sucks you can't do that on Ground Zeroes.

You can!

How the fuck did they balance the game?

It seems so feature rich im actually overwhelmed at the prospect of playing it.

In comparison, GZ feels like a tutorial level 1

Already confirmed that you can

- Firstly, similar to Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, the team are committed to an optimized PC release, allowing for as much of the Steam community to purchase and play the game.
- After our PC launch of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, back in December, many players have asked us to separate the graphics options and allow for greater control over depth of field and other graphic settings. We’ve listened to this feedback and are implementing separate settings for a variety of the controls related to graphics. This will be implemented for in-game activity, but I’m afraid we can’t change setting differences for cutscenes.
- Likewise, MGSV will continue to have 4k resolution support in The Phantom Pain.
- Players have asked for Windows 10 support as well, but while we can’t confirm official support by launch, we’re looking into this for post-launch patches if necessary. However from all accounts, the basic performance should be to par.
- For our Steam community, we can confirm the creation of Steam Trading Card support when playing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
- Finally we’d like to mention that full support for custom soundtracks via MP3 on your PC is planned for implementation.

This looks great, but how does Snake pay for the upkeep of Mother Base o.O

This seems to be very in-depth regarding mission planning & R&D though, hmm.

Right. If a player can infiltrate the base and steal certain things without raising any suspicions they should be rewarded with the defending player not knowing they were there, or having to stumble upon the fact that they were there.

It's a risk/reward thing, hopefully. "I could sneak in and maybe take a small number of things with relative safety, or I can make the gamble and try to steal more things with the risk being that if I am spotted I must go to a specific region to extract within the time-limit or lose everything". And the defending player has to deck out his FOB with front-line defences (cameras, soldiers, sensors) to make avoiding an alert more difficult for invaders.

I feel like that scenario is probably the case, due to the fact that in the most recent demo the defending player is alerted and his soldiers are actively searching and not on regular patrol, which you can see soldiers doing in this older gameplay from the invader perspective. So it seems like it works the way you hope it does.

His mercenaries complete hired missions and they produce goods to sell.

Also, diamonds.

Also, this is goty.

That's good. Either you can rob the people in the Bank lobby, or go for the vault : )

I could see some tricky FOB designs being used to thwart people effectively. If you build that sucker like a long line with the core at one end and the attacker spawn at another, you could just put a ton of drones along the bridges and a few guys at high points for sight.

With the right balance, this really could be a meta game of it's own like they intend.

I loved Ground Zero's but i didn't know the game was anything like this, already have the LE on pre-order, just wasn't what i was expecting, don't get me wrong it looks very in-depth & looks very good, i just want to go sneaking about on missions & not worry about my base being attacked.

I need to take that week off. Holy fucking shit. Even bought the PC version even though I know I can't run it past 3fps. I need this shit day 1.

Is there any chance that some of those PC upgrades will make their way into the PC version of Ground Zeroes? I'd really like to turn off depth of field during gameplay!

Then play in offline mode and don't worry about it. It's optional.

I think this game will be too much for me to handle. I've been playing Batman AK and I find it overwhelming with content and side missions that I feel motivated to complete (normally I do not) and MGSV seems to be like 10 times bigger.

I wish they would show the tooling for how exactly we customize the layout of the base. They've mentioned it a previous video about how you'd know shortcuts on your base, so I'd like to see what we use to place railings, security cams, and such.
