Fighting Games Weekly |8/10-16| Gods(Beard) Among Us

Alright, whatever. "I deserved for that top player to play me even if I sucked" is scrub talk though.

Unless it was an online lobby called "Scrubs stay the hell out", it's a casual online environment and none of this top player nonsense flies.

Edit: Sure I don't play online seriously all the time either, but people hate me and call me an asshole. So whatever.

From what I've read, other lower-tier characters like Asuka and Lili still get higher usage than Chloe simply due to the fact that they're more just more popular. In other words, being low-tier doesn't necessarily stop people from using you if they actually LIKE you...
I think it's a combination of both. Asuka and Lili are considered low tier but it's on the low side of the general "playable" tier -- tiers in Tekken are fairly compressed, and while you're technically at a disadvantage, you still have all of the tools needed to win. Whereas Chloe is considered to be the worst character in the game*, and is a design that frankly would not look appealing even in the middle of the cast of a Im@s x LoveLive fighting game. Her design stinks, even within the context of Japanese pop idols.

*One thing I'm curious about is that how much of the perception of her being bad is due to her moveset -- when you're in an environment where every L costs at least 100 yen, few people are going to have the fortitude (and wallet) to learn an unorthodox moveset. Maybe she will look better in the home version when people can spend more time lear-ahahaha who am I kidding it's never coming. :(

What's to be called out though? If you say you want to build community you owe your time to everyone you ever play? Meh.
If you're serious about building a community, I would think you would owe everyone at least some decency. If you honestly feel like you are wasting your time playing someone, you could... you know... just not play them?

Juicebox, are you planning to attend Winter Showdown 3 in Colorado?

Would be nice. Probably can't due to work, though. I was hired mid-year so I only have 3 paid vacation days, I may need them for other things.

If resources were not a problem, I'd do the KaneBlueRiver thing.

Also, Occam's Razor seems applicable here. Maybe I did just troll and be an asshole. I find this explanation unsatisfying, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be true.

What's this anime twitter drama going on now? I missed the beginning of it and I just know something's happening.

Also, learning VF and playing Darkstalkers again. Post Evo's fun.

Is that what this is about?

Anime FGC has less attendance for their events because they have no $.

They spend all their $ on boob figures, pedo idols, and battleships.

People have bad social skills and don't know how to shut down a bad opinion without sounding smug. Plus the intricacies of a bad opinion vs. a belligerent opinion.

It's just a human nature thing that's hard to deal with.

You'll always be welcome here in Peru(we can house you and feed you), we have a dedicated KOF13 community you might wanna troll.

Twitter seems like a really fun time of stupidity and nonsense. Its got all the schadenfreude and psychological abuse of real life without the inconvenience of common sense or sober second thought.

Honestly I don't think its possible to really troll through just playing a game, at least not in any way which would make you an asshole. Doing the same move over and over and running drills as you mentioned, isn't against the rules of the game and if anything, you're going easy on the people you're doing it to. Like you mentioned it seemed like the best option would be to stop playing... why should you stop? They should stop if they can't adapt. And for all that stuff about supporting the community blah blah blah, you've put out all those videos, you're playing the game and handicapping yourself, what more can you do? lol

If it works, keep doing it.

That's it. It's too bad if you get hit by the same move 5 times in a row, but if you can't stop it it means you're not on the level.

Like if you go the wrong way in Dark Souls and get crushed by the Skeletons in the graveyard in the beginning, it's a sign you need to grind it out and go some other way.

AFGC is weak and bad at shutting down bad opinions. It's hard. I'm not good at it, I basically just keep trying to explain something while somebody else gets really mad and keeps going at me that their view is right.

Oh well. After recent encounters on DL I'm just going to post info and not say anything else. I've been corrected before (SKD recently clarified statements I made) and I'm fine with that as long we reach a logical conclusion. I'm real bad at dealing with people who assert they are right though, I don't know how to respond other than "this is probably the correct way to look at it."

My approach has worked well in a lot of places, but when somebody with a strong personality goes at it I just want to shut it down. When most of the AFGC is mid level at best it's hard to find a balance between letting stuff rock and having to be stern with how the games work.

I agree with this. I faced a Cammy the other day that was doing the same 7 hit combo starting with EX cannon spike. I didn't realize what the guy was aiming for until the 2nd time he did it. His 3rd attempt I stopped it midway by ex DP with Ken. Still lost the match, and I know now that Cammy players have that. Next time I play Cammy, I'm ready for it. But I wasn't going to get mad that he was basically practicing his combo on me until I stopped it.

Debate Rushdown style is too OP =(

Arguments exhaust me frankly, I could never handle that.

Downloaded the demo for the arcsys 3DS DBZ game and it's pretty interesting. I'm intrigued on how it approached designing a fighting game for a handheld console and its limited control scheme. The game far more in common with Jump All Stars than arcsys arcade fighters and I really like that game even despite it being not balanced and polished well in several aspects. It even borrows the team mechanic from JAS which basically let you have a team to up to three fighters I think and assists as long as you don't go over the an assigned value which is pretty dope. So all the characters and assists have a specific value attached to them and as you would guess certain characters have higher values which makes it harder to build teams for them with other characters with high values. I hope in the full release you can have preload teams like you could in JaS. unlike JAS there's airdashes, high lows, and cross-ups just like in a proper fighting game. The game also addresses a major issue I had with JAS and that was the ability to call assists while in hitstun. Anyways the game seems pretty fun and I like forward to it being broke wide open.
That was a big problem with both JAS and JUS. They fixed it in One Piece Gigant Battle, but the team building aspect and the stricter combo/cancelling mechanics made that game less interesting.

I'm really tired of arguing but Idk how to make them stop, other than just leaving the argument. That sucks because then you give somebody free reign to spread bad ideas to other players.

Reason doesn't work on everyone.

If it did, there would probably be a lot fewer issues, lol.

Arguing is awesome because it lets people get stuff out they normally keep hidden. It exposes what each side is thinking down to a raw emotional level. Lot's of misunderstandings get cleared up from arguments.

You can't change someone's feelings towards something but you can make it clear how they feel about said things.

You have to get the idea in the last sentence out of your head entirely.

There is *nothing* you can do to stop a bad idea, whether you continue to argue or no. Following that compulsion will just lead bad places. All you can do is state your feeling on something and follow up where it's productive.

They should just stop. You're not obligated to play in any way against an opponent. Just don't complain about a fragmented scene if that person doesn't come back to play after stopping.

Eh, there are some people I feel no matter how much arguing with them, they don't even attempt to head what you say. Anne's right in that point,. When it reaches that point, it is best you don't take part.

Ooh, we should play VF. Maybe I should even try learning Darkstalkers (and I'm about to get assaulted by a wild Rotanibor), but I think it would just body my old man hands.

Or you could end up like me, going "damn, this game is hard" and just plowing through that entire section from the start of the game anyway. It wasn't until Valley of Giants that I realized that I probably should not have been down there. -_-

Needless to say, that made the rest of the game feel like a relative walk in the park.

I know with fighting games, I tend to get more irritated at myself than the opponent when you start losing to the same thing, either because you don't have a good response (and maybe there is no good response) -- but what's even more frustrating is when you do know what to do but you're just not good enough to actually do it.

I'm not sure whether I should be amazed or sad for you lol
