Dragon's Dogma Online launch trailer

Launches this coming Monday (31 August)
If you buy the very expensive retail version, you can start playing on Thursday iirc.

As for the game itself, after playing the PS3 alpha and the PS4 beta for a while, I got the feeling that it might be fun with friends, but I don't feel like playing it alone.

Yeah, I think that's the limited edition or something like that

how is it when compared to the original dragon dogma?

Climbing monsters is handled a bit differently, aside from that it feels pretty much like the original DDO. Movement might feel a bit different because of the online nature of the game, but that's about it.

The game requires a VPN to run if you're outside Japan iirc.

That ending :O

Man, I can't wait to play this. I hope we get an english patch fairly soon, cuz I'm not even gonna get my hopes up for a western release...

Looks like they ditched the classical mythology-inspired designs for more stylized ones.

That's pretty disappointing. While some of the new designs do look pretty cool, they don't look much different from something you'd see in other fantasy JRPGs. Then again, I question how feasible it would be to keep trying to come up with new content while keeping the same "traditional" aesthetic.

That being said, Dragon's Dogma Online looks alright. Can't really say I'm interested in it though.

Still no news on it coming to the west? I'm interested in both Deep Down and Dragons Dogma Online. Hope they provide some news regarding localization soon.

Aww, almost teared up a bit when they played the music from Dragon's Dogma at the end of the trailer. Sadly, have zero interest in playing Dragon's dogma online even if gets released in the west.

At around the two minute mark, yep.

I'll try it if it comes here.

From the impressions I've read, it plays pretty much exactly like you would expect an offline DD to play.

If it comes to the west and doesn't have a screwed up F2P model then DDO will be my first MMO.

Can I play this game with a JP PSN account?

My friend has acces to latest betas. It was ip restricted but possible to play on PS4 if connected via pc with jp VPN. Downloading 4GB of data with 100-200KB/s free VPN restrictions and occasionally disconnections (disconnect=redownload some of client data) was annoying to be honest but doable. And its worked on EU account (download on JP and play on your own account). No idea if full version will work same way but probably yes.

Is that an akantor at 1:48?

Why is this not coming to the West? Come the fuck on Capcom!

They probably don't have the money to get Western servers that support a large number of players, coupled with a lack of faith that it'll make enough to warrant the localization. If they just patched in English subs, then the JP servers would have to handle both JP and Western players, likely increasing latency and the risk of other strains.

It's really sad to look back on Capcom over the past decade; they tried every anti-consumer tactic in the book and none of it paid off for them. Now they're too poor to develop AAA games on their own, or release moderate projects like this in the West. If only they had been more appreciative of their customers and fans, all of this probably would have turned out very differently for them.

which is funny because they probably would make way more money in the West due to next gen users. It's not worth launching most console games first in Japan anymore, its more ideal to launch in the West, then launch locally later.

Someone mentioned in the other thread that's its current F2P model is similar to the one in Monster Hunter Frontier and would not fly outside of Asia/Japan. So if they were to bring it to the west they would have to rethink said model from the ground up.

For those of us not familiar with MH:F's pay model, can you describe it for us? I'm assuming this means "pay to win as hell", but I'm unfamiliar with F2P games in general.

I completely forgot about this. I even forgot that I got into the beta. I guess I just don't care anymore.

Hard to care when they haven't said anything about a Western release.
Already went through this garbage with PSO2, anyway.

It's stupid that in 2015 we still have big profile games not being available worldwide.

a bunch of streams are up now, it's currently on early access
i've been hearing you can play this even on your ps4 if you just change a proxy from settings? or just use something like vpngate if you're on pc

Nobody asked for this. At least not THIS way.
A sequel with 4 player co-op would have been excellent.

What do you mean? Looks like Dragon's Dogma to me. Unless you're just talking about the Panzer Dragoon styled dragon?
Agreed, all looks status quo to me too.

Was considering getting this, but the price of that retail version is stupid on top of it just being a DL code anyways. Everything the package contains is not worth that price. Now if it had a disc too that would be different. Granted its an online only game and eventually the games severs will be shut down and making the disc useless, still the price just does not justify what you get included.

So it's a buy to play game? Or is that just for the retail version?

From what it looks like "retail" version comes with a bunch of DLC codes, 30 days subscription? bunch of tickets, soundtrack CD and Art book.

I need to go look at the OHP to see what the actual deal is for those that dont pick up the LE retail version.

Heres the link for the LE stuff.

Game price has already gone out of wack on amazon and such. Funny too since its not like people will be able to play that much earlier than the official release.

Ok it looks like there really isnt a subscription but more that there are merits for those who pay. It says too that by playing freely there is no content locked away either with the standard game itself.

I played the PC beta for about 5 hours solo and I thought it was pretty good from what little I played. If any of you decide to play it the Google translate app is pretty useful for translating menu stuff and quests using the photo feature.

EDIT: There's also people translating stuff now that the game is out.

At least don't IP lock before the game comes out here =X

Oh well, looks good. I still just hope that I can be always 100% alone in everything.

Okay, so it's real free-to-play with benefits for package purchasers. Got it.

That's all I needed to know~
I'll be there on Monday.

Yeah seems a lot better than their previous online games such as MHF. Though I think thats changed from what it used to be originally with its business model.

I just said screw it to grabbing the LE and will just wait till monday. Got DQ8 to play in the mean time anyways lol
