[Amazon UK] Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain getting a physical PC release!

Box Contains
Game, Double-sided insert with controls and Steam key

Is this just a box with a code in it?

Edit: Oh it says game. I'm dumb

It's nice that it is getting a physical release, but I thought physical releases weren't normally so expensive. It's even more expensive than the steam version, which is a lot anyway for a PC game.

"Game" sounds like there's a disc in it. For PC games discs are quite pointless though, because they activate on Steam (or Origin/Uplay for EA/Ubi games). I don't even have a disc drive, I just redeem the key inside the box and download the thing.

It's sad PCs are stuck with DVD as a main physical media for software. Fuck atrocious prices on Blu-ray drives, why did/do they cost so much?

Non-rewritable USB thumb drives (like in Windows 10 retail) can't come soon enough - and yet we will probably stuck at USB 2.0.

Preorder pricing of games on Amazon traditionally runs with high prices upon initial listing, often dropping to something closer to a 'sensible' price as the release date approaches. This is nothing new.

Well, we'll wait and see then. Needs to be at least <£30. You can often pick up launch day physical PC games for around £20.

There's a chance the price will drop before launch. I'd be surprised if Amazon sell it for more than Steam. 99% of the time it's the other way round.
I'd be happy to pay £35-£40. No more unless I had too (£45 on Steam).

Don't really see the point of PC physical releases unless I really have a shitty connection or that the physical release is substantially cheaper than on steam.

Unlike console versions where the actual game is tied to the disc itself, the PC versions ends being a fancy drink coaster once the code is redeemed.

Just buy an Nvidia code from eBay. Note that Ground Zeroes is not included as it is solely a Steam Store incentive.

Is that legit? cause buying that would be a massive help. I'm not too bothered about the phantom pain cause I already have that on PS4 and I'm planning on picking up a physical PS4 copy when the price drops a bit. Just want to experience this game in the best way possible on my pc first.

If you're asking if people are allowed to resell Nvidia codes, then the answer is "Yes." If you're enquiring as to whether or not the seller can be trusted, well, he still has 100% positive feedback after almost 1,000 transactions and only one of those ratings is neutral, so I would assume so.

When the physical release also requires steam it's useless in my eyes.
On top of that the physical release is actually more expensive than buying the game on Steam here in Norway so I'll just buy it on steam.

I guess I'll give it a shot then!

Steam keys are readily available in our very own buy and sell thread for $35-40.

Worked out at £24 for me.

Though I understand some people still like physical.

might give this a shot instead then. current issue being that my paypal account is foobar'd at the moment :/

I was hoping they would have done some sort of collectors edition, but I guess not. Not much reason to go physical unless you're a collector or have a bad connection.

Bluray drives dont cost that much, its more the fact there is basically no use for the things.

I have a bluray drive in my PC and its never even seen a bluray, especially since I need to purchase software just to watch a video on it.

Damn this is awesome, just ordered the day one steelbook edition for PC with the Shinkawa artwork. Can't support the Steam pricing anymore with MGSV costing 59.99€ on Steam, when the steelbook edition is only 48,99€.

So apparently the disc contains an installer for Steam and nothing else.

What the fuck?

It's not the first game to do that so I'm not surprised. I think Skyrim and Super Meat Boy did of the top of my head.

This is slowly becoming standard practice, but it does suck for consumers with bad internet. Especially so if there's no way to know ahead of time.

Games are getting larger and larger in size and unfortunately most PCs aren't equipped with a Bluray drive. No publisher wants to print 12 DVDs for a single game, so this is how they save money.

what the fuck

i bought the PC retail version since it's sold for $15 here and so i don't have to download the game on my shit internet

guess the only thing i got out of it was the cheap price, still have to download the entire game

What's the point on doing a physical release if you actually need to download the WHOLE game, not even a patch, not even some activation files, but the WHOLE game. :l
