Android Wear |OT| 2nd Gen is Here

Am I seeing it correctly? Is the black segment still there? I thought that would have been rectified in the second iteration?

If they want to keep the bezel that thin, they need it (that's where the IR sensor is). No getting around that any time soon. I imagine they're pretty sold on the thin bezel look for the 360, and if they go with a bigger bezel they'll name that watch something else as a different line similar to how LG has the G Watch R and the Urbane.

Battery drain on my Moto 360 is just ridiculous. It's not even drain anymore.

Got the latest update yesterday - took the watch off the cradle and wore it from 5am to 7am, completely dead. Tried rebooting it but after the Android Wear animation, it would just shut off. Figured it was dead (after two hours) so when I got home, I wasnt surprised to see "Android is upgrading 1 of 17". However, AFTER it rebooted, I was finally able to check the battery stats:

...so what's keeping it from restarting at 80% charged?!

This happens so often I don't even remember to wear the watch anymore. Used to grab it every morning but now it's such a hassle, it's no longer a habit. There's like less than ten watches out, who the heck is QA-ing these updates?

My Moto 360 battery usage is the same as far as I can tell, but I am using a third party face. Not sure if that matters. I am also not using many apps for it.

New rendering of the new Moto 360. I'm guessing this will be officially unveiled this week at IFA. The only thing I'm hoping for is NFC for Android Pay...

Yeah, didn't realize my warranty is up in a few months. I just filled out a request to repair it.
Definitely worth trying, I'm still wearing mine daily since December and I'm still getting more than a day of use out of it (I use it to check the time regularly, read notifications a few times an hour). So it could be a faulty battery on yours.

Liking the look of the smaller 360 for my small wrists, if the battery life is lower though I'll pass.

The watch has gotten obscenely warm when on the cradle so maybe that destroyed the battery. Wish I would have thought of it sooner but with battery bugs going around with prior updates, I just assumed it was another bug,

The flat tire I can deal with. The real 360 killer for me is that weird bevel all around the edge of the glass where it meets the bezel. I don't understand why the glass isnt just flat against the casing?

I was patiently waiting for gen 2 and they keep the flat tire... The button on the top right is also a no-go.
Gen 1 was almost perfect design wise. I was hoping for it to become a little slimmer and to lose the flat tire but I guess the battery would have been too small and the bezel would have had to be bigger. Such a shame.

Do you all know of any interesting interactive watch faces? All I've seen up to now has been disappointing. There should be a face like the one they showed off to let you message other watch users, except for hangouts. It makes so much sense I can't believe they didn't do it.

Honestly, if you're gonna go Android Wear, you're gonna need to go Android. And vice versa with the Apple Watch/iPhone.

You're never gonna see great integration between Android Wear and iOS due to the way that OS is built and what they allow app developers to do on the phone and (most importantly) in the background at any one time. It just doesn't make sense to combine the iPhone with an Android Wear device instead of the Apple Watch.

The other way around would be way easier though, given how Android gives you pretty much full control over everything if you wish to have it as a developer, but Apple would never support Android on their watch because they want to sell you both devices, not just the one (Google doesn't give a shit about devices, they just want you to use their services).

Either way, I guess it's just a roundabout way of saying "nobody is really gonna give a shit about iOS support, unless they're sitting out their contract and jumping the gun on the watch." I'd hope.

I can decide on which watch to eventually go with. Has LG showed their next watch yet?

I would like one where I can see the weather, my calendar, read incoming messages and pay wirelessly.

Is Android Pay only for US?

Looks like it's unofficially supporting older models as well as the GWR and Moto 360 have been confirmed to be working.

Now I can dust off my 360 in my drawer ever since I switched to iOS :D

US only to start.

Urbane was their next watch, that'll be around for a while, but no NFC. Earlier rumors letter the new Moto at the exact same spec as the LG watches, so I guess they're waiting on Qualcomm to do them a spec boost while saving battery.

If this thing has a HRM and / or pedometer which I can sync with fitbit then SOLD.

Currently rocking a Pebble Time as my first smartwatch and with Android its great but i do love my step counter and am invested in the fitbit ecosystem so that for me is the holy chalice dungeon...

Any leaks on pricing yet for the Moto Sport?

According to the video I just saw on Droid Life, Moto apparently said the new 360 models start at $299 and go up from there. No idea where the Sport models lie in there, but apparently pre-orders will go live on Moto Maker today so we should know soon.

After looking closer at the Huawei watch, I'm really interested. Hope it's not too expensive.

Amazon had a page up for pre-orders last week before it was taken down. they start at $450.

It seems all the new AW watches in general are trending toward higher prices...and I don't really see why, what with the lack of NFC or a speaker or any other major inclusion that would justify price creep. Makes me want to re-buy a 1st-gen ZenWatch while they are still dirt cheap. We may have to rename this thread to "wait for the 3rd gen."

Thought it could possibly be changed with a Google Play Services update :(

Probably will be changed with whatever they decide to throw into a "Marshmallow" update to Wear.

It's unfortunate. As much as I love my 360, I still think anything over $299 is asking too much considering the functionality of these devices (unless it's made of premium materials or whatever). They need to start bringing the average price down to $150-$200 and even that is a little steep.

Wholly agree. I think the time for premium products is when Android Wear is a mature platform. Right now, when we are basically in the "pay to beta test" phase, the prices should be going in the other direction.
