Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain PC performance thread

6-year-old PC reporting in! :D

AMD PhenomII x4 955BE 3.2GHz
AMD HD 7870 Ghz Edition
8GB of Memory
Win 7 64bit

It's pretty 60fps smooth everywhere with high settings and some extra highs. Don't mind the temperature, it's AMD gpu and I haven't cleaned it for months.
I might lower the shadow to low later for experiment as apparently low shadow is the best shadow.

This makes me wonder how my gt 650 m would fare.

2880x1620 > 1080p downsampling currently.

The beard and hair aliasing is finally at bearable levels but overall the IQ could be better in a lot of scenes.

Game's great!

But I am having the same issue that I had with GZ where every once in a while it will pick a direction and get stuck moving that way and I have to do a mad shuffle to fix it. Anyone have a workaround?

I've been having the same problem since Ground Zeroes. Konami's unfortunately ignored my requests to have it looked into, so I don't hold hope it will ever get fixed. It seems to me like it's tied to the "sticky" behavior of Boss wanting to cling to a wall, only sometimes there's no wall near so he just starts moving towards where one should be.

There seems to be more and more people reporting this on the Steam forums for the game now, hopefully they take notice and issue a fix because it's my only gripe with the game. Everything else is amazing but this movement bug is really annoying. Can you guys post what keyboard you are using?

~30fps on 1280x720 low/medium

His GPU isn't 6 years old, it's only 3 years old. And it's still a whole lot stronger than a mid-range then 3 years old GPU, lol

But you'd be able to run this, at a playable framerate.

30 frames isnt too bad, but i clearly need to build a pc soon

Was worried I maybe didn't have the chops to play this. But it's sounding like other than some bottlenecks in the engine causing drops for everyone, it's a pretty damn good port.

CPU: i5-3570k (3.4ghz)
GPU: 270x
RAM: 12GB

Seems folks are able to run around high with locked 60 FPS at 1080p. Sounds perfect to me.

You would be able to near max this at 60fps

I have a serious issue when launching the game, the game window is tiny , like running at 480p even though when I check in the game settings, it is on full screen !

To fix this, everytime I have to switch to borderless fullscreen and back to full screen.

And because of that I suspect HBAO+ doesn't work since I can't notice any AO when it's on ... It's extremely annoying.

What's up with the cutscenes? In gameplay I get locked 60fps with Max Settings, HBAO+ and downsampling from 1440p (might try to find settings for stable 4K60fps tho), but sometimes cutscenes tank hard and go down to like 10fps. WTF
EDIT: Unrelated but who thought it'd be good to have inverted Y-Axis as the standard setting? Disgusting.

For anyone that cares it doesn't play that well on this spec:

Core i5 4440 3.1GHz
Intel HD4600

1280x720 resolution with everything off.

I get an average 30fps but there is too much input lag. Ground Zeroes was perfectly playable but Phantom Pain isnt for me.

Fricking typical that I'm waiting for GPU RMA and PS4 goes tits up as well so can't play it on either :(

I think that's linked to when you're
lying in the hospital bed and the doc asks you to
look up, and whatever way you press, up or down, is what it chooses, but I may be talking rubbish.

using the patched .exe from wsgf.org for ultra wide @2560*1080, unfortunately the marked icons don't match the enemies location anymore, too bad I'll have to go back to 1920*1080 until someone figure it out :/

what? inverted Y axis is the only correct way.

Apologies if this is already covered, but does anyone know roughly what the settings would be that would make the game equivalent to the PS4 version? Reason I ask is I'm running this on an older PC but not on max settings. I want to know if I'm actually getting anything more out of the PC version with these settings.

I seem to get a solid 60 with these, but I haven't tested it in any other areas yet, I'm not very far in.

"I seem to get a solid 60 with these"

Even in cutscenes? If so, you're already doing better than the PS4

Not sure about cut scenes, I didn't have a frame rate monitor running but during the opening chapter things seem to run fine. Though I doubt I was getting 60 during them considering some of the crazy stuff happening.

I have a 660 Ti, a i5 2500k and 8 Gb of DDR3.

Do you think I have a chance to run it with a decent framerate and with decent graphics ?

Boy, I'm really hoping for an FOV patch.

i5-3570k
GTX 680
8GB of memory

Anyone with similar specs that can tell me what kinda performance they're getting?

1080p/60fps with a mix of High/Very High settings.

This game looks great and seems to be optimised out the wazzoo.

i7-2600k
Geforce GTX 660 (non-Ti)
16Gb of DDR3 RAM

Geforce Experience recommends I disable depth of field. Is it really that much of a performance hog? I should point out that I'm playing on 900p due to the age of my monitor.

So far the game runs very smoothly at 1080p on my setup which is not that high-end, didn't notice any fps drops or stuttering.

R9 390
i3 4130
4gb RAM

Edit: forgot to add -- everything is maxed out.

Good to hear. Haven't put it in yet, but upgrading from a GTX 480 to an R9 390.

R9 390
i5 3570k
4GB DDR3

So hoping that I can run the game maxed out at 1080p/60, or at least close.

It's starting to click with me now after Mission 6. I was always skeptical about the non-traditional nature and I didn't like PW. The start of this game left me a bit down, expected more story beats and at leat some traditional mission layout, but it's slowly grown on me and the level design is well thought out, varied and starting to become mazey.

I especially enjoyed the caves, gave me some MGS3 nostalgia and there was also a section in mission 5 that reminded me of the lower strut bridges in MGS2.

I've got everything set to Extra High in 1080p on my TV, getting a solid 60 fps.

i5 4690K @ 4,2 Ghz
16GB DD3 1600 Mhz
GTX 980 4GB
840 EVO 250 GB

The load times are weird though, some times it takes forever for the iDroid to bring up some map or whatever.

I5 4460
R9 280
8gb RAM
Installed on an SSD

Solid 60fps at 1080p with no drops whatsoever with all settings maxed out. The game is optimized so well.

That's due to Konami servers. Try to disconnect from the menu and see if it improves. Konami's attempts to turn this massive game into mobile crap pisses me off.

Then you must have fucked up when the doctor asked you to look up at the beginning. That's when it gets set. In fact the look around moments right before it start out non-inverted.

I moved the mouse up to look up and then when I moved it back down it tried to look up further. I really don't know what happened.

It's gotten to the point where I hesitate even checking on my team and development progress. I never know when it's going to become a long load time.

It's definitely not my connection, either. I have a 100 mbit line that normally never lags when playing online. My pc is also a fairly high end one with an SSD.

So essentially we have the burden of an online game without the actual online gameplay, since it's not coming to pc until sometime in 2016.

It's capped. My monitor is OCed to 75hz and I'm getting 60

Oh wow, I had no idea modern monitors can now overclock, cool though. I been using Plasma's for my PC gaming for some years back when i got a Pioneer Kuro i guess i got use to it and kept buying plasma big screen for my PC gaming.

On Topic - This game looks very VERY good i must say, like others, i was very impressed by the engine improvements. Getting decent performance thus far with a 3770k@4.8ghz and a old but still kicking fine for 1080p a 7970@1200core/1650mem and 8gb ram but i need a bit more time to tinker with the visual settings some more but it looks nice at 1080p on a plasma 55inch.

another patch just came out on steam. Do these guys release patchnotes at all? Second one that's come out and I still have no idea what the first one did.

Official 1.003 patch release
We have implemented the latest beta (Beta 1.003) as an official patch now.

Changelist:

- Fixed an issue where the settings in the "OPTIONS" > "KEY ASSIGNMENT" menu would revert to the default values when restarting the game.

- Fixed various issues that were resulting in a black or white screen on startup, such as when using a resolution below 1280x720.

Apart from two quick minor dips during the prologue, the game has been running at a flawless 60FPS for me with everything on Extra High (AO off / HBAO+ on):

i7 4930K / GTX 780 Ti / 16 GB

However, I just got to Africa for the first time and in the last part of the cutscene getting off the helicopter my framerate tanked to single digits. As soon as I could control Snake it went back to normal and so far it is 60FPS in gameplay.

Anyone else seen this? Is Africa more intensive going forward? I'd hate to have to lower some settings after 10 hours plus at max settings.

It's not Africa. The reason it slowed down at that part is because of the dust the chopper was kicking up. When you have Effects maxed out, the framerate takes a huge hit trying to shade any alpha such as smoke and dust. You can notice it a bit when you fulton stuff as well.
