wouldn't it be awesome if both Braves-Age and Twins-Age both rose from the dead in the last week to join the playoff race out of nowhere?
then we met in the world series and got our revenge, yes it would be awesome. But yeah, its nice to have a race to watch at the end, a couple weeks ago it looked like there wouldn't be much to watch.

edit:
NEW YORK—With Citi Field attendance during Sunday's matchup barely reaching 70 percent, Mets pitcher John Maine let fans who actually came to see the bottom two NL East teams play shout out pitch requests during Nationals at bats. "What's that? A slider? I haven't thrown that old classic in a while, but I'll give it a go," Maine said during the fourth inning. "All right, submarine pitch, then a palm ball. That's a weird one, but if you want to see me throw one of those, let's hear you scream!" Requests were no longer accepted after a teenage boy asked Maine to "throw something faster than 91 miles per hour," to which Maine responded, "Shut the hell up."

Kawakami is a badass, he is a fucking ninja!

Cubs are 6-1 since they told Bradley to take a hike. I guess we know why the season was a bust after all.

Worst off season signing ever in chicago sports history.

Maybe you'll get to watch the great Aaron Rowand for the next few years

Chicago Tribune said:
If the Cubs want to swap bad contracts, as they did in the Hundley deal, the Giants may be Hendry's best option. Center fielder Aaron Rowand has not put up the kind of numbers expected in San Francisco and has three years remaining for $36 million.

Rowand is two years removed from a 27-homer, 89-RBI season for the Phillies and would be a good fit in the Cubs clubhouse.

"Cubs fans would fall in love with him, for sure," Cubs outfielder Reed Johnson said. "He did well on the other side of town, and I know people ... appreciate the way he plays the game."

oh and a subdued celebration after tonights win. might have the NL West locked up tomorrow night

Jesus Christ. The Braves are now only 2.5 back of the Rockies. They were 8.5 back of the Rockies on September 9. They were tied with the Cubs at 8.5 back, 3 games behind the Marlins, and 4 games behind the Giants.

And now, they are all alone behind the Rockies now that the Giants have faded and the Marlins are still two games behind the Braves.

Ever since September 9, the Braves have gone 13-2 while the Rockies have gone 7-8. The Braves have gained 6 games on the Rockies in 17 days. 4 of the 8 losses have come against the lowly Padres.

The Rockies have 7 games left. One more against the Cardinals, three against the Brewers (who have been spanking Philadelphia), and three in LA against the Dodgers. Meanwhile, the Braves have 8 games left and 5 of them are against the pathetic Nationals. They have 3 against the Marlins and they won't have to face Josh Johnson because he's pitching tomorrow against the Mets. They finish the season with four games at home against the Nationals. Things are looking smooth for the Braves and tough for the Rockies. The Dodgers will still be playing with intent in order to keep the homefield advantage away from the Cardinals.

And don't look now, but the Braves have gained 4.5 games on the Phillies in 5 days. The Phillies have lost 4 of 5 while the Braves are on a 5-game winning streak. They're now 5 back, though the Phillies magic number rests at 4. The Phillies try to avoid a sweep by playing one more against the Brewers, head home to face the Astros for four, and then finish with three at home against the Marlins. The Astros swept the Phillies in a four-game series in Houston earlier in the month, but the Braves failed to gain a game as they were in the middle of a 5-game losing streak. The Phillies have only gone 1-5 this year against the Marlins in Philly.

If the Braves and the Phillies ended up tied and whoever ended up in second would still be behind the Rockies, the NL East would go to the Braves since they beat the Phillies 10-8 in the season series. The Phillies would be the NL Wild Card entry. If the Braves and the Rockies ended up tied, according to the new tiebreaker rules, a game #163 would be played at Turner Field the day after the regular season ended. Despite the Rockies and Braves splitting their season series at 4-4, the Braves would be granted homefield advantage for a game #163 due to having a higher winning percentage within their own division. The Braves are 39-25 against NL East opponents. The Rockies are 32-37 against NL West opponents.

But even with all of Philadelphia's problems right now, it's still going to take an outrageous collapse to lose the division to Atlanta. If the Braves run the table and win all 8 of their last games, the Phillies would still only need to go 4-4 to win the East.

As of the end of play on September 26, Baseball Prospectus has updated their predicted final standings. They have the Braves winning the Wild Card by 2.5 games over the Rockies and finishing 1 game back of the Phillies.

Still going to be tough. The marlins have been hard to beat for us this season (7-8 record against them). But with the way we are playing now, it feels like we could sweep anybody...expect for the phillies. (i'm sure Zep is happy to know that the only two losses in the last 15 were against them.) Washington has usually played us tough the past few years but the past 4 or 5 games against them we have played like we are supposed to against them. I hope that continues. Derek Lowe goes today, he hasn't been too good lately. He is known as a "big game" pitcher, i hope he lives up to that.

And Larussa better not play a bunch of scrubs today, it would be really be great to be one back in the loss column with 7 to play. Also, i was wondering about who gets the home field advantage in case of a one game playoff, nice to know its the braves. Even if the braves don't get in, it sure is fun to watch. It makes the wait for 2010 even harder.

/facepalm

wtf, they must be blind whores or he has a 15 inch dick.

edit: Fuuuuucccckk.. Josh Johnson not starting against the mets today because of the flu. That means he will face the braves.

who do i blame for scheduling? pats/jets/giants are all playing during the sox/yanks game.

at least this game doesn't count. oh and byrd is pitching... eycch.

Tacoby has raise his BA and OBP by 20 points over last years. Now if he developed some patient to draw walks it would be the next leap. He swings at everything after getting a strike count.

Mike Lowell corpse will be gone after 2010. Tek needs to retire too.

I was fully expecting Lowe to suck. It's the offence that's been disappointing me so far.

It's Livan Hernandez, jesus. :\

The better cuban prevails! Tie Game! Don't blow this Lowe.

edit: sigh, fuck you Lowe. Please bring in KK.

To add insult to injury, Mike Morse (who has homered twice in two days after years without a homer), was traded to the nats inexchange for:
Ryan Langerhans....

even now he finds a way to screw us over...

on a related note, its a shame Pete Orr isn't in there today to help out the braves

Langerhans should be kicked out of Chipper's hunting group.

edit: KK warming up. thank you. please get out of this inning without any runs lowe.

edit: Zimmerman just missed that ball. Lowe is trying to give me a heart attack.

edit: yikes. I hope that is the end of lowe....forever.

Laroche! RBI double! tie game. Great baserunning by escobar there.

edit: thank god, Hernandez is out of the game.

edit: NOooooooo Norton Pinch Hitting. Why can't we use Church...or Kelly...or Conrad...or Hudson. Anything but Norton!
