MGS4, PW and MGSV are better off just not existing considering how much they fuck up making any damn sense of...anything. They overcomplicate and at the same time reduce the story and characters of MGS1-3.

Nope. BB explains in a long string of 0s that he has to return or reduce Zero to errrr, Zero.

Honesty, just get rid of everything except 1 and 3. They're solid, self-contained stories that avoid the Patriots which are the worst aspect of the series. The full lore is such a bloated, clusterfuck on nonsense now it's pointless to even try to decipher it all.

5 can exist but I just want that engine and gameplay in a different universe.

Finally finished Mission 46. I guess it makes sense in the grand scheme of things. Eli not having Phantom Snake's DNA, for instance. It also explained how Big Boss lost the horn & got an arm (because he never had a horn & never lost his arm). Even the Phantom's deafening silence is cleared up to a degree; Big Boss talks way more. What it doesn't explain though is how Big Boss goes full villain. As far as I can tell, the only bit of that was from Huey when they exiled him, saying that "the outside world views you as terrorists".

He was for like .5 seconds until the game forgot that Skull Face even existed .

What a wasted fucking character.

Yep, i knew he had been attacked, but I thought we were going to go back to him and find him ok and then have a boss fight with him. We would have to defeat him in some unique way because of his parasite abilities. But then nope, he was actually crushed and i did face palm.

So un kojima like.

I was watching old trailers of portable ops and they have "the missing link to outer heaven" in there. Jesus christ.

Ten years of this missing link garbage

The Illuminati have always been considered to be a secret society first. Unless you consider networked computers to be a society it doesn't count.

any secret society would most likely create an AI to implement its will. That is what happens in MGS. A secret society then creates an AI system to control the world.

As far as I can tell, the only bit of that was from Huey when they exiled him, saying that "the outside world views you as terrorists".
I thought it was a nice touch that Huey would go out to conflate the reputation of Big Boss and Diamond Dogs as bloodthirsty psychopaths. Fits with the idea of WORDS THAT KILL (not literally) and legacies, and gives Huey a place in the world after he's off camera, and gets around the fact that he's unkillable due to time paradox.

What was up with that trailer line "A weapon to surpass Metal Gear..." Kaz was talking about Sahelanthropus right? But that's a Metal Gear....

Sorry to dredge this comment up again but I don't think it was the parasites, I think what he was talking about was either -

The clones - Eli and David

or

Patriot Information Control because all the 1984 themes.

It also fits with the canon too -
it explains how Big Boss survived MG1s Outer Heaven ending - he didn't. Solid Snake killed Big Bosses phantom -he killed Venom. Don't be shallow. Sadly, this will be lost on most fans.

Except Kojima already went out of his way to explain that by stating that Big Boss was brought back to life by Madnar as a Snatcher after Outer Heaven. Also none of the people he saved from NATO's bombing of Outer Heaven seem to have noticed the missing horn of the Big Boss they were familiar with.

Kasler: Big Boss...
Kasler: There's not a mercenary in the world who hasn't heard of him. He's a like a god, a living legend.
Snake: I already know all that! I need new information!
Kasler: OK, OK... but this is only a rumor, understand? Three years ago, when Outer Heaven fell, Big Boss was seriously wounded. He almost died...
Kasler: He lost both hands, both feet, his right eye, and his right ear. But somehow... he survived.
Kasler: Then an Eastern bloc despot took an interest in him. Probably couldn't resist getting his hands on a soldier of Big Boss's caliber.
Kasler: They decided to use Big Boss as a guinea pig in Madnar's Snatcher project.
Kasler: I don't know the details, but apparently it involved turning him into a cyborg. Now he's half man and half machine. Hard to believe, I know.
Kasler: But if it's true, Snake, you're way out of your league. None of your techniques is going to so much as put a scratch on him.
Kasler: Snake... give it up...There's no way you can win this time...Over and out.

we need another metal gear game to explain if kaz is truly blind or not

Actually thinking about it, doesn't he say in one of the burger tapes to Code Talker "not to be put off by its colour"?

Which is funny because that's what the game was marketed as...

He didn't spot it, he was just randomly prodding around it until he made contact. If he wasn't blind, he would've prodded it first time.

He probably heard the noise when it dropped if his aural senses are amplified.

I just saw that as Kaz putting on a brave face, I'm fairly sure he is blind.
I think you guys are reaching further than dhalsim. How can you watch skullface death scene and say he's blind. Dude said "it's bright is all", how is that putting on a brave face?. If he were blind I'd think they'd have addressed that.

The problem here is that if they AI is in charge, then the secret society ceases to have control.

Why is it a logical conclusion for a secret society to create an AI? Without any control over its actions?

The iluminanti have always been about humans controlling other humans.

I always took it to mean the AI, but I think the game makes it clear that the ultimate weapon mentioned are the parasites, which would then make AI control a lot easier.

Plus I don't think they ever explain those keys that Skull Face has hanging from his belt. I thought they would have some sort of story significance. For a game that involves extracting prisoners so much, I thought those keys would unlock high level POWs that you could rescue but you could only obtain them as a key item if you beat Skull Face non-lethally in a boss battle. So much for that.

Just saw the nuke ending.

So really, this game isn't about Big Boss becoming a demon or even a fake Big Boss becoming a demon. It's about a fake BB forced into it because real BB is a coward but in the end rids the world of nuclear weapons and is really the most heroic and selfless character in any Metal Gear game.

The AI is meant to reflect their will. Economic control, population control, etc. The easiest way to achieve this is for an AI making micro decisions across the world. Influencing every aspect of the digital age.

Zero believed the AIs would reflect his will, but he did not expect them to deviate from it.

But still ends up killed by Solid Snake

Solid is a villain

My point was that Zero->Cipher->Patriot isn't a stand in for the Iluminati. They have very different philosophies for control, even if their objectives are the same.

That's another reason why MGS2 was pretty cool: it never defined what the Patriots were. It never definitively stated whether they were all AIs or merely used AIs.

It just gave you a picture of a 12 blurry portraits with some creepy conspiracy theory music.

it is a pointless discussion because the illuminati are not real so trying to talk about the philosophy of a potential modern day illuminati is pointless

They even gave him a custom gun! I always imagined a (Last Of Us spoiler)
David-esque boss fight with with him.
Hiding to avoid his shotgun blasts, all the while he's reciting minute details from the Virtuous Mission and Operation Snake Eater, laughing at your attempts to kill him. It'd be up to the player to find a strategy that'd work.

I'm so annoyed that the only character boss was Quiet.

Solid is a villain

Snake was only following orders. This was the same statement that Gray Fox laid down upon him in MGS.

"We're not tools of the government or anyone else.... fighting was the only thing I was good at but, at least, I always fought for what I believed in."

Solid Snake was used as a weapon and it was only in MGS4 that Big Boss lifted that burden from him.

I liked the patriots more the way they were portrayed in MGS2. As a conspiracy theory kind of thing, this ominous, mysterious and ever present organization that we don't get to see and only know that they're behind some of the world's biggest powers. The Patriot "being" in that game (before being explained in MGS4) remains one of the coolest villains of the saga for me.

When they were explained and then overexplained in future games of the series, the whole mystique behind them was gone and it just became kind of "a big bad organization that a lot of these people you know founded", which isn't nearly as interesting.

I never understood how Kaz becomes blind, did they explain that in some tape I missed or it's just a random blindness?

Honestly, I thought it was because he was some parasite impostor. Code Talker said something about it and their eyes were similar. Also Miller going all "1984" had me thinking this dude was going to be the final boss or something. (Not that familiar with MGS really so...)

that sounds amazing. It would have been so awesome :(((

thats what they want you to think

just like THE PATRIOTS!!!

lol

Zero made the AIs because he knew he wouldn't be around forever and he didn't trust another human to enact his will. A machine you can program to your liking would seem much more trustworthy than humans who can easily lose their way.(Big Boss, his best friend, leaving him is the catalyst to him losing faith in people) Sigint is a huge nerd and loves the concept of AIs so he would go along with it, Paramedic probably didn't care and just stayed holed up in her lab.

Asking this here since I may get more input than the OT.
So if I beat everything else in the game, see the Truth ending, etc. can I then remove the butterfly emblem to trigger Quiet's endgame? Or is it locked out? I've got different input so far.

Because Zero stopped trusting humans and lived in isolation after Big Boss split, that's why he had the AI take his place. This is explicitly said in MGS4.

Yeah you can remove it afterwards if you think you're done with Quiet. Then fly to motherbase and Ocelot should notify you that Quiet has left, prompting her Side Op to pop up which then leads into Mission 45.

agreed with that.

It makes sense for Zero to go this route, but for any hypothetical secret society it sort of doesn't.

I can't tell who's serious or not. But the overarching villain of this series is No One? Is it just dudes with conflicting ideals fighting each other?

Also that's real messed up to "Johnny Got His Gun" some random dude. That's extra insanity to brainwash someone, change their appearance, and parade him as a figurehead.

How does Quiet even speak with her non functionnal lungs ?

Do parasites produce air from inside the lungs, make them contract and exhale so that she can produce sounds ?

I mean what.
