SPOILER: Metal Gear Solid V Spoiler Thread | Such a lust for conclusion, T-WHHOOOO

I just finished last night. Mission 46 really should've been condensed rather than having you play the whole prologue again. It was funny to hear Kiefer have to say "press the stance button to crouch" again though. I assume Big Boss was in a coma too for most of the nine years? I'm not clear how/when he and Ocelot got back in touch after MGS3 either.

I know stuff gets cut from every game, but "child soldiers stole our Metal Gear" is such a huge plot thread to leave unaddressed. I haven't watched that whole mission 51 video yet though. Weird that they even put that out.

During the mission in the quarantine platform I really thought we were going to explore Big Boss's transformation into a villain, but I still feel that's largely missing.

posts like that that just come in and call the story a mess but don't say why reek of failure to understand that game. happened a few pages back as well. it's one thing to not like it. it's another to call it "messy" and not explain why. if you tried to pay attention to the game, how can you call it messy?

The story I liked more than most metal gears, but it was vastly underwritten (unless I want to listen to the dozens of tapes they drop on you to fill in the gaps). Cutscenes can occur without rhyme or reason and can actually conflict with whats going on depending on how you play (like straight from Quiet dancing in the rain to getting tortured). And the twist well... I can handle it, I don't mind it. But after how disinterested I became with chapter 2 it sort of comes with a "so?". There was no build-up to it really, they just sort of drop it on and you in a "you can fuck off now" kinda way. It just felt sloppy for Kojima to have written such an uninvolved story. I would have rather had a shorter campaign and better story than the latter half being a copy and pasted adventure.

Oh yeah. That rain scene was some fkn disturbing shit. I have a friend who was cut at me for not being disgusted. This was around mission 25. I said "there will be a reason". He said he will eat crow if there was.

I continued on and went way past him, then eventually saw the Rain scene. Now, I want to say I'm sorry but I don't want to spoil it for him.

Her design, i believed there would be a reason but I'm sorry, her body being burnt isn't. That doesn't stand, not after that rain scene ...

The reason is that Kojima is a pervert but unlike the people who make Dead or Alive Extreme Beach Volleyball, he can't admit it.

If a 40+ hour game is 'ruined' because of knowing the story then its not a game I wanna play. Playing the game is the real story.

The only part that killed it for me was that eli left in the metal gear and that was that. Yeah, I saw the cut mission, but still. No one talked about it unlike with quiet and how she's a pain for the base.

Rain scene is a work of art. BB being all playful, made me all warm and fuzzy inside.

Honestly, I barely notice Quiet's attire at this point and I can't bring myself to care one way or another, I like her as a character, but i just don't find my attention being drawn to what she's wearing.

My girlfriend is a fan of her though.

What it comes down to is, this series has one of the greatest female characters in video games, and is filled with endless homoerotic vibes and crazy things like Paz's erotic novel style retelling of her watching Snake and Miller fighting naked in the showers at motherbase, and characters like Sniper Wolf who was basically a more domineering version of Quiet, not to mention EVA endlessly trying to get appeal to Snake in MGS3.

So when you sum everything up from all the MGS games, the subject of what Quiet wears becomes so insignificant it's laughable, however my favorite outfit of hers is the XOF one, it just looks cool.

Rain scene is what cemented Venom as a teddy bear

Oh, and Quiet's XOF design is badass. Like, really cool. She comes off as a female Solid Snake of sorts. Even her hairstyle is cooler. Her outfit during the game is tasteless garbage.

And one thing I forgot to mention.. I didn't get the cutscene where venom was carrying quiet out of the copter that was in the trailer..unless I'm.mistaken.

Yeah. I really didn't like how unimportant Eli was. He thinks Venom Snake is his father right? But they don't even do anything with that. Hes on the base and all you get with him is a tag you're it fight scene. I would have liked some bonding, with have made the twist alot more interesting.

I'm not offended by her design. I like her design. Doesn't mean it's not pandering in the stupidest of ways. And the rain scene cemented that. It contradicts the chlorine scene. It's just so stupid. It's not even MGS stupid. It's just real fkn stupid.

And it breeds stupid yet hilarious shit like this.

It might not for you guys, but the scenes of Quiet where she's objectified pull me out and destroy the character. That's how it is I guess.

I found I enjoy the concept of Venom as an individual way more, knowing the truth from the start.

I don't know, I found it pretty in-line with my experiences with MGS stupidity.

Yeah, turns out Brazil was right all along. Shame he deleted his original posts, would have been nice to visit them again.

Brazil said "Oh, I don't think your Big Boss, because you're asked to change your face at the beginning of the game" right?

I'm astounded that he was the only previewer who spoiled that. Astounded. If one other previewer had confirmed it I would have went into the game believing it, so that was a lucky break.

EDIT:
Oh, I see there was other confirmation. Good thing I missed it.

Definitely this. Although I suppose he's not that unimportant in that he pilots Sahwdwdhnhfa..... Metal Gear S against V twice canonically.

Why was he in Africa? Who told him about LET? Who told him (falsely) that he was the inferior clone? The tapes imply Zero might have been his foster parent, and we know for sure he was under his care in some form, if not directly.

For the love of fuck can someone explain to me why a game so heavily reliant on David Bowie references couldn't pull off actually getting a license to use his actual songs?

Major Tom I'm burning up! And they can't follow that insanity with actually playing space oddity while I'm taking on the last boss? I've never played a game so heavily hyped that seemed so half assed. I'd be really curious to know at what point in the development cycle that konami and Kojima started to buy heads and shot started getting cut.

You know what movie Bowie had no problem being in? The prestige. And I'm feeling like we got conned very similarly to what goes down the the prestige. I could spend another 1000 words on a half assed conspiracy rant about thatbconnection, but this empty shell of a game doesn't merit that kind of effort. I am convinced that Nolan got a ton of inspiration from early MGS games however.

I missed the shower and the chlorine scene somehow

Because its supposed to play into the game's narrative of not playing as the real Big Boss.

Instead you play a cover, get it?

the rain scene was the cheesiest thing in all of metal gear

it even surpasses a lust for revenge

the music was nice tho

It was incredibly awkward, yes. But I liked how they both kinda break character and have "fun" for a few moments, and when they hold each other at the end there seems to be more between them than just combat buddies.

In fact, the Quiet cutscenes are almost exclusively scenes where Big Boss shows some actual emotion. The cutscene where Quiet jumps in the hold with the toxic gas to retrieve the kid's necklace, Big Boss gets genuinely upset and is visibly relieved when she jumps out.

I like the chemistry between the two, especially considering what happened in the hospital. It's just unfortunate that Kojima kind of trainwrecks this with the surreal shower stuff and all that.

I still don't understand, if you're meant to believe youre the real Big Boss, why does the real BB leave you a postcard addressed to your real name, and sign it from himself?

Quiet is one of the few personal interactions that only Venom has, Big Boss never met her, he just set her on fire, so I find it interesting Venom took to her.

How the fuck did I miss the chlorine scene?

Did you go back to Mother Base every time you leveled up her bond? That's the only way I could imagine missing it. AFAIK, it doesn't force you back to MB and you may have just bonded with her right past it.

I think the reason why Quiet looks the way she looks is because of sales. Just look at it:

MGS3's The Boss - One of the best females in gaming, doesn't show much skin until the end > sales around 3.6M

MGS4's B&B Unit - more sexualized with skin thin outfits etc. > sales around 6M.

MGSV's Quiet - lots of boob shots, most skin a female MGS character has ever shown etc. > sales in the first few days already over 3M.

I really think Kojima and company thought about sales when they designed Quiet, maybe they blaimed MGS3's low sales (compared to other MGS games) on The Boss not showing enough skin.

It even has all the tutorial prompts for no reason.

The concept of mission 46 is sound, but the execution flawed. After the initial reveal there is little reason to replay the entire prologue. I get it, I'm not Big Boss, fine. O wait, I have to play everything again? Great..

It should've cut/faded from the explosion in the hallway when you first see Mantis to the ambulance crash or something.

i agree. it's pretty obvious that other changes and differences were planned. i find it hard to believe a lot of the cut content has to do with the release date and not konami cutting the budget and forcing kojima to put the game out. one way or the other it has to be related to kojima being ousted

Finally beat mission 45 after what feels like an eternity. What a terrible mission gameplay wise. But the ending cutscene for Quiet was great I feel. Now onto 46!

I need two mods.

One with Quiet's hospital hairstyle on all her outfits.
One with Venom's hair not in a ponytail.

That's all I want.
