Besides the David Bowie song being a cover rather than the real thing, here is another thing I think was intentional.

This is Big Boss circa MGS3. Notice how his pants are not tucked into his boots.

This is Venom Snake. Notice how he tucks his pants perfectly into his boots like the good soldier he is.

After 86 hours of game play, I'm probably in the minority when I say I enjoyed the ending and the tapes with Zero were a good listen. I know some people hated the impact this story has on the original MG but I thought it was cool. The scene on the quarantine platform was the "true" end for me, documenting a turning point for BB. Though, putting 15 or so infected people out of their misery didn't really appear to be too evil... would have been better to sink the entire strut despite many "healthy" people still being on it and BB not willing to take the chance. The actual scene we got seemed to be the only option here, Huey's subsequent tantrum seemed out of place considering his history or making ultimate death weapons for various shady organizations. Not to mention the other sinister deeds he supposedly is guilty of.

Like others, I would have liked to have seen an episode 51 and perhaps some extra story between 1984 and 1995 that ties BB back in with Foxhound and leading up to operation intrude.

The whole point of the Metal Gear Saga is that the "enemy" is really a matter of perspective. BB coldly executing his own men may have been a necessity, but its also a great propaganda tool for those seeking to depict him as a madman and a tyrant.

Regardless of his actions, by building such a power-base BB makes himself and the rest of the Diamond Dogs a threat to America and the other existing world powers. So really, whether he's a "good guy" or a "bad guy" is irrelevant on anything other than a personal level.

History is written by the victors after all, and we know ultimately the heroic Solid Snake is going to end up victorious.

MGSV as a story is largely about futility. The futility of revenge, the futility of seeking peace through war and conflict, the futility of escaping the "destiny" prescribed by massive geo-political forces and our genetics.

Episode 51 would've have been a nice splashy finale, but thematically and in terms of character development actually adds nothing. Eli and Mantis get to fly off regardless, as they must in order to meet their eventual demise at the hands of Solid in MGS. Sahalanthropus is disabled again, but ends up back at mother base so no change there, and although some closure is given to where the missing viral strain goes, I don't think leaving that strand loose is such a big deal.

Yeah. Though I haven't reached the ending yet, the reactions are reminding me a lot of GTA V: Largely agreed to have the best gameplay in the series. Has a good story to some though a lot of people hate it. Almost everyone agrees that the ending was rushed. But you can't call the whole game rushed because the ending is, since a game's much more than just a story.

The ending to GTA5 was definitely rushed and shit, but GTA5 was still a complete game. MGSV is incomplete.

Snap, really? I don't want to play through every mission again though :|

It's only the story missions you have to S rank, not the harder versions of chapter 1 missions to get Raiden. (Though you do get something else for S ranking the harder versions as well).

I stumbled across something strange this morning while I was digging through my screenshot folder to get rid of the blurry shots. We've talked about the meaning of Kaz' eyes being frosted over, wondering if he was blind like Code Talker. Well, the Wandering Mother Base Soldiers all have those eyes too:

Right, and there's evidence of stuff being cut (like a cut Mansion heist) but it still endeavoured to complete its narrative, even if that meant tying up all of the loose ends in a silly and contrived way.

Rather than doing the work of eliminating plot threads that go nowhere MGSV just has them float off into the horizon. It's pretty egregious stuff, and results in the game feeling incomplete and sputtering to its 'conclusion'.

It's disappointing, and it's a weird disappointment. A 40+ hour game that feels unfinished.

Nice catch. Yeah this indicates something to do with the parasite.

So what's everybody's favourite mission? A lot of them are repeated, but I felt the majority were okay.

Back Up Back Down was pretty fun. Destroy tanks coming in from each direction, then doing it again later in the game with upgraded equipment made it so much better.

Honestly, how you have a game in this universe set in 1984 and not capitalize on it is beyond me. This should have been a goldmine for MGS fans. A reunion of sorts - to a greater extent than MGS4. Baby Sniper Wolf? No, but how Gray Fox is absent from the game, for example, is inexcusable.

Mission 43, just for making the Mother Base aspect of the game worthwhile. A great gameplay character moment.

Otherwise ... Mission 12, probably. Seeing keycard doors reminded me I was playing a Metal Gear game.

I wish I could erase today, i wish I never entered this thread and never knew of episode 51. I can't see the game the same way anymore.

Anyway as for best missions, mission 12 absolutely epic classic MGS. Code talker missions was incredible with an amazing boss battle at the start and a memorable location. The one where you extract the kids. Mission 45 Is beyond incredible. Missions 30 and 31 are fantastic as well.

You feel it too, don't you?

Was that using the
Cardboard box?

Also why the hell is there no camera in this game? First Kojima MGS without one unless it's hidden away somewhere again.

The really insane thing is that we have a Sniper and a Wolf as buddies. And somehow nobody had the idea to give venom a little girl that has heavy interaction with said buddies.

Yeah as I have said before the fact that the game doesn't take advantage of it is beyond me. It was so perfect to do that sort of thing but nope.

Gray Fox is with the real Big Boss. That's why he is against Venom in MG1 but then with BB in Zanzibar Land.

Huh, Back Up Back Down is actually my least favorite mission.

I really liked extracting Huey, fighting Quiet, fighting Sehablablabla. I loved mission 43, but that is basically just a cutscene.

Edit: I'm not a Junior anymore
, yay!

I don't see why that's inexcusable.

This is great and all for a movie or a book but in video games you don't show an antagonist flying away in a giant anthropoid mech and just leave it at that.

MGS2 sort of did that but at least we got a sword duel there.

I mean the obvious excuse here would be that Sniper Wolf and Gray Fox were both with the real BB and never knew Venom.

Still, at least Kojima showed SOME restraint here. It's already too much to swallow that Ocelot and Miller and Otacon's dad and mom were all BB Pals.

So how does psycho mantis not rule the world by MGS1. He is practically a god. And in MGS1 he is just some throw away lackey of Liquid.

Because he's The Third Child's inferior clone.

DUM, DUM, DAH
/jk

He was never really powerful in MGS1 and it would be laughable to be injured by some books that come at you at 2kmh, but that is ultimately the PS1's fault. Technology wasn't there to portray hundreds of flying objects, destructible environments and assets and so on and so forth.

Mission 46 should have been in reverse, like you literally have to crawl backwards the whole way.
That would be kinda neat, but you'd have to foreshadow it in some way. Think Memento.

It would've been perfect and little miss Wolf maybe didn't knew to the end that the BB she was so found of was literally another person and dead for a long time. Sniper Wolf, Naomi and Gray Fox - those were stories people were asking for. Instead we got Huey.

I mean, we don't play as the real Big Boss yet we just happen to run across his son in an abandoned ship? (Also, is it ever explained or hinted at who the client behind that mission is?) I feel Kojima should have gone full 28th Anniversary Reunion, given we meet character like 12-year-old Liquid.

The man who sold the world.. is such a troll song my goodness everytime i hear it the salt runs thru my veins, i cant believe Kojima made BB a coward on his final game.. I Never lost controlllll - Big Boss

The fight w/ Quiet against all the tanks + heli, because that song was easily the best thing in the game.

Hey LD, seeing as you've beaten the game now and know the twist can you believe both Team A & B lost while Team C & D shared a victory? I say D because even if it wasn't Gray Fox, it still fell under the body double conspiracy theorist shit. Hilarious.

You got Ocelot, Liquid and Mantis. Shoehorning ever MGS1 character in this would be silly.
