You know, looking back at some of these missions, I am upset most of them are essentially Venom doing wet work, and not much narrative connection with the main plot in a lot of them.

Say what you will about peace walker, but its ops had a stronger connection with the main plot.

Also on the bosses topic, this game technically only has 4

-Quiet
- The skulls (multiple fights)
- Man on Fire
-Saelanthrophus

Can't really say a lot of these are memorable.

and Saelantrophus is probably the most enjoyable one, but I feel like the Ai pods from PW were better fights than it.

The second the Battle Gear was finished, and Volgin's body was brought to the quarantine platform, I assumed he was going to ride that thing like the Shagohod and we were going to get a killer boss fight.

Instead both those things amounted to nothing.
I thought when you found his dead body and he awoke it was going to be a fucking awesome boss battle at that base. I got so pumped then.... Itsfuckingnothing.gif

I don't understand how there are so little boss battles.

I miss a crazy boss character like Fatman.

The way he stands there on his rollerblades, a cocktail in his hand and he's all like: "Time to start the partyyyy!" and you're like "shiiiiit, this guy went rogue from all the other bosses. He means business!"

For me this was one of the most memorable build ups to a bossfight.

waah?

He's more of a boss than Fortune ever was

No one said Fortune was a boss fight.

I just did the Demon Volgin fight again. It can be completed in less than 60 seconds. You can just fulton extract him after you collapse a water tower on him, or drop a vehicle on Mantis while Volgin is knocked down from the water tower.

The things that made MGS so memorable in the past (great story, cutscenes, epic boss fights, memorable characters, etc) seem to be half-assed in MGSV and/or completely missing.

Ground Zeroes, in terms of cutscenes, pacing, and story is a lot better than TPP. It didn't even have a boss fight and it still felt like a MGS game.
Not to mention we got to play as the real triple OG Big Boss

I'd actually forgotten they got Volgin's body, what was that for again, just so they could tell you it was Volgin?

To study him.

I'm deeply sad there was no fist fight. Even with CQC, it could have been awesome. Imagine Skull Face and Venom punching the daylights out of each other.

Mission 45 took me like three hours. Two hours, fifty minutes of me getting one shot by a tank shell with one or two tanks left, then ten minutes after I called in a battle dress instead of a sneaking suit, I was done. Quiet didn't help matters by calling for ammo drops in places that would get me killed, preventing me from calling ammo drops behind cover.

I was glad I didn't have to fight the Man on Fire, since my experience with all the boss fights/big encounters in this game were pretty awful. It was pretty much me banging my head against a wall until I relent and call in a weapon or item that trivializes everything and makes me feel like I wasted my time earlier.

Is mission 45 even worth doing if you know how it ends? I mean, do you gain anything aside from an awesome cutscene [and a trophy I suppose], because all I see is losing an extremely useful buddy.

She's going to leave if you don't have the butterfly emblem on prior to mission 41 (I think?) anyway. If she's left, you might as well do the mission. It can take a lot of tries, but it's not really that bad.

I wish I'd made a back up of my save sometime before all that. I deleted my game and restarted after doing 45 & 46, 'cause I was just doing side-ops and Quiet was gone like "What are we even here for? Just to suffer?" - getting the Sniper Wolf costume for Quiet after she'd already left was the tipping point.

BOSS! BOSS! COME BACK TO MOTHERBASE, STORY IS HAPPENING!

Chapter 2 essentially.

people who have the PS4 LE

are you annoyed that it's based on the prosthetic arm of a dude who isn't even Snake?

I'm.......slightly annoyed... :(

I'm.......slightly annoyed... :(

I have his full scale prosthetic from the JP premium package. I have a friend that offered me $200 for it. Might sell it to him.

Resilient, isn't this shit ironic? The hype/lead-up to TPP was a major reason I (not meaningfully) neglected my ex gf, which in turn caused me the most intense emotional pain of my entire life when things went sour - only for TPP to be a major disappointment for me.

This chapter in my life is like a bad joke wrapped in a nightmare.

This games story is not what I expected. What I wanted was the story of how BB became the villain of MG. Instead, it turns out he wasn't the villain of MG, the medic on his helicopter was... and while he was building this private army, not really doing anything that would be considered villainous, the actual BB fucked off to make an actual Outer Heaven, even though he declared MSF was Outer Heaven at the end of PW.

To be fair, Outer Heaven is more of an idea than an actual place. Even when Big Boss declared MSF Mother Base "Outer Heaven", I knew it wasn't the same one from MG1.

Kinda...

Its still a cool arm (I originally thought they had just transplanted Galvez's arm onto Snake)

I dunno, I just feel like the big reveal happened way to late and I think it hurt the idea more than it helped.

... at least Punished Venom Snake is a cool code name

Gah.... I am really iritated by how Venoms reveal was handled.

It would have been like if you finished MGS2, playing as Solid Snake through out big shell, only at the end of the game he pulls his face of and its Raiden, and you have no idea who this is.

Like, it bothers me that I feel this is the best gameplay experience I've had all year, but this story is pulling my opinion down so much.

Why would you even do that ?

Also, fuck Mission 45. Best cutscene of the game, worst mission of the game. Really, it wasn't fun at all, which is the worst I can qualify a game.

So I just noticed I never got the butterfly emblem...and well you know I can't get it now with Quiet gone. Will this not allow me to get 100%?

I thought the reason you get Volgin's body was to use him during FOB attacks.

Exactly. That would be insanely stupid and nonsensical. At least Raiden was a fleshed out character with a backstory and identity of his own. He was supposed to represent the player, just like Venom, but Raiden wasn't an empty vessel.

We're on the same boat here.

Why would you even do that ?

Why would I do what? Sell the arm?

45 ending is really nice, but the mission preceding it is terrible if you are not prepared for it. Also, I hated 18 (where you need to escort the kids)

Because, fuck... these kids won't move even though I slaughtered everyone in front of us... and I knocked out everyone behind us and have the landing zone available... but no... we have to move forward.

I hope you don't mean the ending of that mission.

"On your 12 'O clock. You're getting warmer. Nope, you're getting colder. A little to your right. Nope, too far, back to your left. Now back to your right. Then..." zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Haha what, why?

Just thought it would be some sort of special booster weapon that could be used to defend yourself. He'd be your own frankenstein, walking around setting enemies on fire. Don't know why, just thought so:)

If the game opened with the truth, then maybe it would have worked. This nobody is forced to be big boss, and has to make these tough choices.

Instead, it feels like I did nothing important this entire game. And how the fuck is revenge powering metal gears?

Invade people's Quarantine platforms to steal their skulls and volgin.

Kind of bummed that platform is so empty and bland.

There are enough clues throughout the game for you to figure it out, I am annoyed I missed two.

You could probably get it by playing mission 45 again, but getting her to do enough work to get the butterfly emblem might be difficult.

Right there with you man.

Sight. They really need to just patch her back in already. I don't care if she is canonically dead or exiled or whatever.

Not sure if this was posted before, but it's quite helpful.

Yeah, but even then I didn't like the fact that we didn't do all these things as the real Big Boss. That's the character I wanted to play as - progressing HIS story.

The entirety of Mother Base felt empty/bland. In the E3 demos it seemed so much more lively.

Whether it was foreseeable and foreshadowed or not (I know it was), doesn't make it good and/or tolerable.

.

Yeah, I know. The reason I thought Punished Snake was so cool originally is because I thought he was big boss. But if they introduced Venom in the beginning and not the end. Sure I'd have been disappointed, but at least I would have accepted it eventually... but instead the reveal is only at the end, and that sucks.

Can you tell me some of these hints?

Were they in the cassetes? Or did I miss something major?

the man who sold the world is a cover
of course the bit when Ishamel says "i'm you"
Ocelot announcing he is Ocelot to Venom
The DNA test
the avatar reflection
the AI does not recognise you
you can't use a knife

those are the ones i know off the top of my head

The Boss AI and Huey don't recognize you, Eli's DNA test coming back negative.

Huh, I didn't realize about the boss AI and Huey...

Should have noticed something was up with Eli, since I listened to that tape and went "huh, thats weird... this kid is definiately liquid tho"

Ishmael doesn't say "I'm you". He says "you're talking to yourself."

Not using a knife during gameplay has nothing to do with anything. Venom used a knife plenty of times in cutscenes. You were the real triple OG Big Boss in Ground Zeroes and you couldn't use a knife during gameplay, so...

OK, yeah at the beginning Ocelot is asking Venom if "he remembers" things

Whats the avatar refection? The moment in the first mission where you create an avatar, and just see boss's face afterwards? I just assumed that was something for MGO.

I also thought Ishmael was just a hallucenation during the first mission, even though he was doing stuff that affected the world. I just assumed it was an unreliable narrator, and venom was doing those things himself.

If you pan the camera to point at the window to Venom's right (not in first person view) and zoom in on the window, you'll see the face of the avatar you created in the reflection (depending on lighting conditions).

I thought Ishmael was a hallucination as well, especially since he got shot to shit in the ambulance and KO'd while driving. Yet afterwords Big Boss looks perfectly fine.
