Finally beat the game today.
I'm left a little disappointed by the fact that the whole Eli storyline was left unresolved.
The big twist at the end annoyed me a bit at first but I'm okay with it now for some reason, I feel like Kojima had a much bigger picture in mind but can't bring it to fruition now... or it could very well be that he just came up with stuff as they went on...

I just finished listening to all the post-46 tapes. Holy shit wut? It's not enough for Kojima that this whole switcharoo was what the real Big Boss wanted. He has to add -another- layer to that by saying that Ocelot was actually working for Zero all along, because Zero was the only one who could help Big Boss, even though Big Boss was trying to kill Zero. So the entire switcharoo was really Zero's idea, including the hospital location and everything. And Ocelot then sold the idea to Big Boss who agreed. And Miller was also working for Zero, but only because Zero was helping Big Boss, and once they were all back on their feet they vowed to kill Zero. Errrrr.... okay. Lol.

And then to top it all off by the time Big Boss wakes up and everyone's raring to go, Zero's a fucking vegetable anyway. Lol

One of my main issues with the plot of this game, is that the entire plot twist (Big Boss getting a body double) is based on such a non-event or a completely false argument: "The whole world wants YOU dead".

The whole world? So far it seems that only XOF is after Big Boss. I don't think China, Russia, or any other country are after him. And if they are, we are never shown ANYTHING of that.

So yeah, this pretty tough army wants you dead. What's different from the Spetznatz/Volgin army in MGS3? What's different from the CIA-sponsored Peace Sentinels from Peace Walker? Is XOF really tougher and stronger than those two armies?

Besides, after Skull Face is killed, the XOF army has no real reason to go after Big Boss. Their commander is dead. They most probably disbanded after this. Who is 'actively trying to kill Big Boss' after that, so much that it is necessary for him to keep this idiotic charade?

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but it really bothers me. If you are going to pull such a dumb twist, at least give us a good reason. Show us something about the world's superpowers wanting Big Boss dead and buried, because in this game they are not even mentioned, so I'd guess they don't give two craps about the guy.

Besides, let's assume that the medic is just as good and skilled as Big Boss (Which is ridiculous, but let's roll with it for a moment). Why use him to draw fire when the real Big Boss would be able to do it just as well?

"Because Big Boss is busy creating the real Outer Haven!" the game tries to tell us. But this is bullshit. The medic was able to fend off and eventually DESTROY XOF while at the same time building a version of Outer Heaven complete with a gigantic Mother Base, soldiers, vehicles and even obtaining a fucking Metal Gear (That gets stolen, but anyways..).

So they are telling me that the real Big Boss, without having the same people going after him, is completely unable to work on Outer Heaven until left 100% alone?

The twist itself is dumb as fuck, but the reasons they try to give us for the twist are completely false and nonsensical.

YES! YES!
FUCK ME! SUCK MY DICK! SUCK ALL MY DICKS! THE LEFT THE RIGHT THE LEFT! SUCK IT! I finally managed to beat [Extreme] Code Talker after like a few hours of failed sniper duels. I sniped everyone of them, saved Code Talker and got all side objectives without anyone even seeing me, just using sleeping gas granades because I was to lazy to call my tranq sniper in all in one desperate try. I am so proud about doing good in a game. Oh my god. Feels so weirdly good. YYEEEAARRT

I too got an S rank here and it felt extremely good after all the suffering I went through to get it.

D3E7B11C3DE331D660C41B5C2041C968FB6C2F70

However I didn't kill the skulls, I just airdropped a tank and drove it through the sniper zone while they were firing like crazy on me and then got out and walked away.

They killed D-Dog right as I was leaving the mist area.

In one of my failed runs I found out that they don't attack you, if you just stroll down the river before they spott you. You don't even need to call a tank, you can just walk to the cliff, climb up and go straight th the jungle.

And that didn't count as a combat alert?

I think you misunderstand. I always took it that Miller was healthy and fine until he got captured. Then while being tortured in captivity he lost an arm, a leg, and was blinded. The man you rescued is totally broken. Maybe that's why he's so bad at his job. Lol.

Ocelot was a founder of Cipher along with Zero, Medic, Siginit, Eva and Big Boss.

Big Boss and Ocelot parted ways with Cipher after Les Enfant Terribles

Zero called Ocelot after the attack on the original Mother base to say it wasn't Cipher who attacked Big Boss.

Venom Snake was after those responsible, but it was Kaz who was hell bent on going after Cipher. He didn't believe Zero when Zero told him he had nothing to do with it. Also at the end of Peace Walker Kaz was the spy for Cipher that forced Paz to show her hand.

All those tapes take place before the fall of Skull Face. So when they finally uncover the truth they take their revenge on Skull face by blowing off his arm and leg and leaving him to die.

I hate the skulls. They are just bullet sponges. No tactics involved with them.
I wouldn't say that. Keep four snipers at once in mind that also jump around and sometimes even try to sneak around you to try to kill you with a machete is more than fighting bullet sponges.

And that didn't count as a combat alert?

the fight with the skulls doesn't seem to count for anything for some reason. I think killing them doesn't count as a kill either.
Hilariously I believe if you do take out the skull snipers during the extraction the whole area is on alert because they "heard the battle" or something.

Yes, I know. I'm just making fun of how dumb it is that Kojima can't stop layering his plots with schemes within schemes and plans within plans. When nothing is ever straightforward, it makes people stop caring about motivations and plans, and just want to laugh at it.

One of my main issues with the plot of this game, is that the entire plot twist (Big Boss getting a body double) is based on such a non-event or a completely false argument: "The whole world wants YOU dead".

This is actually the funniest part of the game. Well, maybe the second funniest. The funniest part is how the game is all "The world calls for wetworks and we answer, no greater good, no just cause!" and "Kaz, I'm already a demon." but in reality everywhere you go it's "Thanks for saving that cute puppy!" and "Thanks for saving all those animals!" and "Thanks for saving those children!", etc.

But yes, back to that point, it's hilarious that they kept going "the whole world wants you dead!" as a rational for needing to raise an army again and fight to protect yourself, but in reality, everywhere you go in Afghanistan and Africa, people who have never met you before, who got waylaid by you, knocked out, and put into a balloon, are all tripping over themselves to join your army. If the whole world wants me dead, I don't think the number two of some douchebag who gave me a mission, who also happens to be the guy's own brother, would say "If it's you, I don't care if I'm number 2 or number 2000." Lololol.

Let me tell you motherfuckers.

I snuck past the skulls, got in, got Code Talker, and on the way out did my best to snipe & kill all of the skulls. I killed 3, got the last down to a sliver and couldn't find her again.

So I continue slinking to the extraction zone, put CT on, then I get on. As Pequod is taking off (and hearing mission complete over the radio), I hear "SHING!" and the skull slices through the Pequod, hits me AND CT, killing us both.

I had to restart from picking up Code Talker.

I wouldn't say that. Keep four snipers at once in mind that also jump around and sometimes even try to sneak around you to try to kill you with a machete is more than fighting bullet sponges.

Eh, not really. Other than teleporting from spot to spot they don't really have any unique tactics. You just have to shoot them a bit more than a normal enemy sniper
Boss get down
.

And the "sneak around and kill with a machete" thing sounds cool typed out like that but really in game its a quicktime event.

That doesn't make any sense. The whole series doesn't make any sense.

no.. i mean.. there is no tactic to tackle them. at least non that i have tried yet. You either go guns blazing with D Walker, or you play the waiting game far away from the objective, until they snail their way close enough for you to run around and do the objective.

I was just doing the extreme mission with the convoy that you have to steal, and the skulls come out. Such a BS mission.

I hate the skulls. They are just bullet sponges. No tactics involved with them.

They were awesome.
If you have a decent weapon, you take their armor down real quick then blow them away with a grenade launcher or shotgun while avowing their rock.

CQC the sword into their chest for good measure.

Well if you interpret that way, in that Miller was bad at his job because he was blind, I guess I can't argue then. lol

If he was blind though, the game did an atrocious job of portraying it.

If Miller was blind then how did he disarm the child solider after the mission where you rescue them????? HMMMMMMMMMMMM????????????

Did they really shoot off skull face's limbs or was that kaz's sick thoughts being played out?

Naw that really happened.

You don't have to shoot though, apparently you can just leave it there and leave him to die.

What the hell

They were awesome.

If you have a decent weapon, you take their armor down real quick then blow them away with a grenade launcher or shotgun while avowing their rock.

CQC the sword into their chest for good measure.

You can CQC them?

I need to try this then.

I found that snipers give away your position and then they engage you. So that is never a no go. Dropping sleeping gas is sort of effective. But so far, only D Walker gives me results

Sorry for the whine... maybe i am just not getting my head around it in the right way to have fun with the skulls.

Sneaking past them on the mansion was fun.

They do cound as kills. Look at my screenshot, I didn't kill a single guard, I was just throwing around sleeping gas grenades and fultoned the tank, I got not Combat Alerts, but no perfect stealth bonus.

Eh, not really. Other than teleporting from spot to spot they don't really have any unique tactics. You just have to shoot them a bit more than a normal enemy sniper

Well, there is no button prompt you need to hear and see when they do that.

I see. I haven't played Extreme Caravan yet, and well, that's probably the reason for that. I took the normal ones with the tanks, but I doubt that this work with the Extreme ones.

Well if you interpret that way, in that Miller was bad at his job because he was blind, I guess I can't argue then. lol

It has to be some sort of dropped plot point. It got set up hard in his rescue scene and then never mentioned again until that weird "every one is a bad guy" speech.

I think doing an atrocious job of portraying characters is par for the course when it comes to MGSV though!

Indeed and it's reminiscent of a schoolyard game with children playing imaginary spy games

"You've not got me captured, because actually...I'm a SUPER DOUBLE TRIPLE AGENT WITH HYPER MEGA POWERS"

"NO I GOT YOU, IM ACTUALLY THE REAL BIG BOSS AND IM THE CHOSEN ONE"

"HEY YOU KIDS, COME BACK WITH MY ULTRA METAL GEAR TANK YOU SMELLY HEADS"

A pared back story that has constants, or at least a constant within its own insanity, was sorely needed here.

I see. I haven't played Extreme Caravan yet, and well, that's probably the reason for that. I took the normal ones with the tanks, but I doubt that this work with the Extreme ones.

Well.. i have strategy to get to the convoys as they are parked and extract the tanks without anyone noticing. But the mission spawns the skulls on you as soon as you get close to the truck. Its kinda lame.

They do cound as kills. Look at my screenshot, I didn't kill a single guard, I was just throwing around sleeping gas grenades and fultoned the tank, I got not Combat Alerts, but no perfect stealth bonus.

But you also have the No Kill bonus. I think for it to be perfect stealth you also have to not trigger reflex mode.

If he was blind though, the game did an atrocious job of portraying it.

I'm not sure if he's blind or just light-sensitive now. He said something about it being really bright before Snake puts his sunglasses back on and he continues to wear sunglasses even in low-lit environments.

Maybe I try plastering the street borders with C4 and look how that works out.

But you also have the No Kill bonus. I think for it to be perfect stealth you also have to not trigger reflex mode.
Oh, right. Wow, no soldier saw me and I have reflex mdoe deactivated, but it automatically happened the first time a skull spotted me. That's unfair game, unfair!

I think doing an atrocious job of portraying characters is par for the course when it comes to MGSV though!

I will say this, I thought they did a fantastic job with Huey's character. Probably some of the best stuff Kojima has ever done. Even with the shitty conclusion, Huey being so self-deluded and broken in his own right was fascinating to listen to.

Although what would have been great is after you exile Huey, it turned out Miller was involved with the attack on MSF. Would have been a great twist but alas.

Miller actively saw things in the games that weren't narrated and he couldn't just Zatoichi around, like the scene with Snake pretending to kill the kids.

There's no way he's blind.

I am supposed to steal the truck tho.

I can use D Walker fulton thingie but that limits my score to an A.

I'll figure it out.

I just don't like that they see me if i am sniping.

I remember reading in a preview that child soldiers could be killed with recourse. I wonder if there is any risidual data in the game to indicate that was ever true.

Exactly. If anything, it seems the world is just eager for some Big Boss dick. Gotta hide that delicious dick and give you all a fake dick to suck instead!

It's more a CQC counter than actual combo, but I too fought them at a distance instead of playing it hardcore like this guy did.

Cant remember if he even upgraded his weapons before tho point.

I remember reading in a preview that child soldiers could be killed with recourse. I wonder if there is any risidual data in the game to indicate that was ever true.

I'd be shocked if that's true. I couldn't imagine a modern AAA game releasing with killable kids.

True. He's going deeper into the rabbit hole when all he has to do is say, this is what happened.

The more I think about it, the more I'm angry about Quiet's character being subverted by the creepy shit. Kojima's untruthful intentions for her are totally betrayed by his direction with the camera.

Maybe the sunbathing would have been fine. Or the fact that she just wears a bikini.

But the rain scene?
The shower scene?
Her being tortured to death and the camera just staying centered on her tits?

The attempted rape scene is by far the most unnecessary thing. From a story telling perspective, what's the point? Are we going to hate the Russians we've been killing for 80 hours even more if we find out one of them tried to rape an unconscious Quiet? Or is it just that Kojima can't perceive of adult story telling without sexual violence? You're never going to see a scene where an enemy has knocked out Big Boss, flips him on his stomach, pulls down his pants, and then gets ready to rape him, because you don't do that to male characters. Sexual violence is something that happens to female characters to make them stronger - if you're a terrible writer, anyway.

Fuck, Kojima. Fuck Kojima.
