I don't know the full story but regardless it really sucks...
Neither do we, but between Konami's focus on pachinko, firing Kojima and renaming his studio, the six year long development and the grossly obviously missing stuff we can safely imagine what happened. We have a dozen plothreads that go nowhere.

Also I beat Mission 31 and I'm in chapter 2. How much longer until I complete the game? I'm aware I don't have to do the substinence and extreme missions to finish it.

Best mod now available.

You know what's weird? This promo picture.

First, you can barely tell it's even Ocelot. And why Ocelot? He is such a minor character in comparison to several others. And does Big Boss ever wear those goggles? The background kind of looks like the place at the beginning, so maybe that's all they had to show off when they made this, but the image is so random and really doesn't showcase anything relevant to the game outside of "there are sandstorms sometimes." Even the scarf is never used again after the first real mission unless you manually select it.

At the start of Phantom Limbs.

I wish this game had 1 more year. I also wish the team were able to develop the game in a reasonable time frame :(

I wish many things. I wish the sadness would go away.

People keep saying that the gameplay was flawless, but I don't know if I'd agree.

The controls were often too complicated for their own good as navigating through your weapons and items were too cumbersome. And the combat and CQC didn't flow as well as say Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence which had much better flow.

How many hours are we talking about? Some missions took over an hour to complete for me, but a lot of the ones leading up to the Sahelanthropus fight were quite short.
Well, for the same reason I can't tell how many hours you would need. Telling you ny time wouldn't help either.

Really? I thought the CQC in 3 sucked personally. In particular, pressure-sensitive buttons are not a good idea when it can cause you to accidentally slit an enemy's throat.

This has probably been discussed, but did anyone else notice that when Venom punches the mirror in the final cutscene, you can see Outer Heaven logos in the background?

Explains the tape saying Operation Intrude N313 (MG1 mission for Solid Snake to kill "Big Boss") I guess Venom was pissed off when he heard that Solid Snake was sent to kill him, which is why he punched the mirror, maybe?
Explains the gunfire in the background
Explains how far it time travelled from 1984

How about we use fractions? Is chapter two 1/3rd the length of the first chapter? 1/10th? I NEED TO KNOW HOW MUCH TIME IN NEED TO ALLOT FOR MY MARIO MAKER LEVEL CREATION.
I'd say 1/5 or 1/6. It wasn't much content and there was nothing new to learn, no new threat you need to adjust to. So with the fewer missions, your grown experience and evolved equip, you're very fast through.

Did anyone ever point out how blatantly incorrect the positioning of the horn was on BB during that GDC trailer? As well as the fact that he still had his mullet.

To be fair, those are assets from 2.5 years ago. Stuff gets adjusted all the time.

The place of the shrapnel in the GDC 2013 trailer probably messed up the use of the bandana, so they moved it. Also could've moved it up to make it look more like a devil's horn.

Who knows.

Out of curiosity does doing the substinance/ extreme versions of missions add or change story at all? Are there any different cutscenes? New tapes? Etc

I assume mission 50 contains new material? If not i don't fancy repeating content.

So Yep If not I think I'll just focus on side ops. Really appreciate the help in advance!

No ponytail? Triggered.

At the very least play the subsistence levels. Way more fun than more sideops rehashing.

Just because 4 was blatantly and unambiguously wrapped up doesn't excuse the trash tier exposition and nonsense with which it was filled. I was beyond disappointed by the content and delivery of everything in 4.

Nothing about Big Boss pontificating about ones and zeroes as a metaphor for his and Zero's life, chucked immediately after a vomit inducing plot point about Meryl and shitpants getting hitched, should ever be considered an "actual emotional ending". It was a 45 minute build-up for a joke that never came, and was completely tasteless and unenjoyable. I didn't need to see any of it to get a sense of resolution from characters.

MGS4 ending was kind of like Lord of the Rings: Return of the King movie ending. There are multiple parts where it could be the ending but it kept going on. However that's better than MGS5, where nothing in it even felt like an ending and there's almost no resolution and dangling plotlines that will never be wrapped up.

MGS2 Portrayal of Patriots = Brave New World "World State"

MGSV Portrayal of Patriots = 1984 "Big Brother"

To be honest I'm a bit burnt out and don't want to repeat content. I kind of played the main game just using the tranq pistol so I'm not too inclined to play a stripped down mode

Will do it eventually but right now I sort of just want to finish things up and I think I'll find more variety in the side missions

Can someone tell me, does the game finish after mission 31 and the credits start? Didn't have time to watch it all...if yes I feel cheated....

Listening to MGS2 and 3's soundtracks again does make me a little disappointed in how bland much of MGSV's original music is (though there definitely are still a few great individual pieces there.). 2's synth-heavy, jazz-influenced sound and Snake Eater / Portable Ops' characteristic dry, clean guitar tones, pan flute and overpowering brass helped build cohesive, distinct styles that worked off the games' strong sense of time and place. "A Phantom Pain" and "Behind the Drapery" demonstrating that Forssell is more than capable of channeling an 80s synthpop style makes the rest of the soundtrack look even worse in that regard - a few of those influences in the main game's scoring could have created something far more memorable.

Though overall, I did like it more than 4 and Peace Walker's soundtracks; even if it felt like it didn't reach its potential. Speaking of which, since Daniel James was contributing anyway, I wonder if it'd have been possible for them to use Will There Be An End at some point. If Episode 51 had ended up happening, it'd have been a fairly natural fit for the last few cutscenes, as well as creating even more MGS1 parallels.

MGS2 Portrayal of Patriots = Brave New World "World State"

MGSV Portrayal of Patriots = 1984 "Big Brother"

MGS6 Portrayal of Patriots

Have you guys noticed how the faces of Big Boss and Venom even look different despite being similar?
Venom looks younger, I remember commenting before the game released that Big Boss was actually getting younger (so he could be marketable), lol.

Anyhow, saw this on Reddit. Does everyone agree ?

In Metal Gear (1987) FOXHOUND was informed that a Nuclear weapon was within Outer Heaven. Gray Fox was sent to infiltrate and gather Intel. He got captured. Still, he managed to confirm the weapon by saying in a cut off message "Metal Gear". Big Boss, head of the FOXHOUND back in those days, [sent Solid Snake to infiltrate and take any threats out, which includes the nuclear weapon.]( http://imgur.com/sgEjKsh) The name of the mission is “[Operation Intrude N313]( http://imgur.com/vYyHBXo. Upon arriving at the end of the game, [Solid Snake is surprised]( http://imgur.com/7rCCD2D) to [find Big Boss]( http://imgur.com/M5tDX3E) as the "mastermind behind all". At this time, it was a simple twist for the players where the one giving you commands was the villain. But now that we have "the link" we can say that in reality the one that was giving you orders was the true Big Boss. The one in front of Solid Snake, the villain, is Venom Snake. When Solid Snake kills Venom Snake, Big Boss takes advantage of it and disappears from FOXHOUND and the map from those who want him dead to continue establishing Outer Heaven. Now knowing the events after MGSV we can now go ahead and explain how I got to that conclusion. Let’s dive in to MGSV’s true ending.

Big Boss sends a tape with two recorded audios. The first one Venom Snake plays is the big reveal, “From the Man Who Sold the World”. After finishing playback Venom Snake flips the tape to notice the tag, and from what us the viewers can see, it reads “[Operation Intrude N3..]( http://imgur.com/2xcBqDX)”. Yes, Snake’s first mission, given by Big Boss. After hitting play you see the camera transition to a [bloody Big Boss]( http://imgur.com/G48fTun). We have been transported to 1995 when “Operation Intrude N313” takes place. Looking at the mirror you may see the emblem of [Outer Heaven]( http://imgur.com/2DQDfNF) when it was previously [Diamond Dogs]( http://imgur.com/4VpGaiV). This meaning that Mother Base turns out to be Outer Heaven from Metal Gear (1987). At first glance it all comes across as Venom Snake turns a villain for whatever reason, but close analyzing must be made. For us viewers the tape plays a one line sound, but for Venom it’s his next mission planned out by the one and only Big Boss. In other words Venom Snake is not a villain, he is just playing his role assigned by Big Boss. There is no explanation on why Venom Snake turns villain because he didn’t.

Big Boss planned out the whole incident that was in 1995.

I hope this explains to those who are lost. If I’m missing something or got something wrong please correct me.

So wait, the whole bringing Paz mementos thing... it was
just an hallucination and she really did die by a bomb inside her?

Man, even the
side stories in this game are bummers and don't amount to anything...

He could be revealed to be a cyborg, and I could probably roll with it!

Such a lust for retcons... WHO!?!?!?!??!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!!?

Yes. Paz dies at the end of Ground Zeroes, Chico dies at the end of Ground Zeroes. Somehow, with plot armor Medic Snake and Big Boss survive along with Miller somehow magically not having as many injuries as Chico in the helicopter. (I'm guessing Chico got maimed by the helicopter ram? OUCH.)

But even if Paz did survive being blown up, she'd have hit the water hard. Miller even comments on this during the initial "twist" reveal: "Somehow she survived the impact of hitting the water. Hell if I know how."

It does makes kinda sense, still a real bummer.

Did the medic know Paz before hand? It feels like this internalization about him missing Paz is something the real Boss would've felt instead tho.

Well...he was brainwashed to believe he is Big Boss, so that may be part of it. Or since he was a regular MB soldier in PW he probably knew her then as well.

Venom definitely looks different. His demeanor and expressions are more reserved and he looks a bit younger and more handsome than BB.

Well, all of the soldiers knew Paz and it's really mostly that she was his patient and he didn't manage to save her. His last patient literally exploding in his face was the last thing he saw before he got into a coma. Got to be a big trauma.

Biggest lingering plot thread that's still in my mind: the fallen comrade of Zero and The Boss.

From Skull Face talks to Zero tape:

"The winged dagger of a comrade lost to the sands of Egypt. He served under The Boss back in Rayforce. I delivered this pin to her after his death. We were both so very young. From that moment on, she never let it leave her side."
I remember Kojima commenting that he wanted to make a WWII game featuring The Joy... who is this guy?

Yeah, it just felt like Paz reffered to the real Big Boss in the tapes. But maybe it's just that he truly internally sees himself and is BB mindwise. But I would personally preferred if Paz talked like it was directed to the medic character.

That is so long as the last memento thing only is available after the truth ending is finished ofc.

Just watched the Episode 51 stuff on the bonus disc. It would've been nice if they at least finished the boss fight and let us play that and fill us in on the rest with the WIP footage and art.

I'm not sure what you guys would want in a Chapter 3. Other than Ep 51 stuff, there's no setup for more story in Chapter 2.
There are like lotsa threads that could be followed.

Camp Omega for once.
Give Ocelot some story.
Go to South America.
Eradicate all the Parasite reseach for good.
Dive into the story of the angry horse.
What about EVA?
Give Miller a hand.
Miller got parasites?
Code Talker didn't betray you yet, let him betray you.
Locate some fragmenta of your true past.

And... infiltrate an unknown PF in africa that doesn't shoot you if they see you, but strangely enough salute and greet you until they get a radio message that tell them that thwy are being fooled.

Yeah, of course the story could go anywhere, but I'm saying there's no narrative arc leading to any of that. At the end of 51, the parasites are burned, Quiet's gone, Eli's presumed dead, Huey's exiled... The notion that this game was supposed to have not only a more fleshed out Chapter 2 but an entire Chapter 3 with entirely new plot lines is pretty unrealistic. Not to mention incredibly incompetent on Kojima's part, planning a game so massive it could never be completed properly in 5 years of development.

Like with the Battle Gear stuff, you notice something's missing. All those scenes were clearly leading to something which got cut, just like 51. But there's nothing to indicate EVA showing up, for instance.

I remember Kojima commenting that he wanted to make a WWII game featuring The Joy... who is this guy?

Probably a new character Kojima decided to invent for this game and retroactively make important to already established characters just excuse some dumb narrative development.

I just realised we didn't find out what happened with quiet and the 3 guards that she attacked and almost killed with a knife before Venom turned up...? Or did we?

I thought it was implied they had the active parasite strain. It did look like Quiet was straight up going to kill them though.
