Everyday I go into the ACC I hope for a message from Miller saying they have a new mission for me. Everytime I return to Mother Base I hope for a new cutscene leading into a new mission. Missionday never came.

Dat Phantom Pain.

NeverBeGameOver. I want to believe! Can't wait to see if people will figure it all out and there being hidden content.

because parasites?

jokes aside... pretty sure time constraints forced Konamis hand to put pressure on Kojima and end up cutting A LOT of content to the game. Not to mention incomplete features that are there but not fleshed out.

In all honesty it feels like everything that everyone is the most upset about was most likely affected by this. I mean, I'm glad the game was even released, but it makes me wonder how Kojima feels after everything is said and done.

Bad Dads the video game.

Big Boss/Venom: bad to Eli.
Huey: oh god FUCK YOU Huey.
Miller: Hits a kid immediately on meeting him.

i mean sure not for a first run or even a second run, but I'm 120 hours in and doing the same set of missions over is not appealing (let's not even talk about side ops). If we're not gonna get more varied content than subsistence is the only thing that's really changed things up for me in a really fun way. Trying to work out how to take out that convey when I can't even find grenades was a really fun mess.

lemme put it this way: the first time crawling into OKB0 was a tense crazy fest because I didn't know anything about the layout, the guard placement, whatever. Now I could basically sleepwalk my way through there on normal especially if I have my gear setup, whatever methods I choose to get in there.

My playtime is 159 hours. I remember after reaching a certain point in the story, I played side ops for three days and I was having fun. Side ops are many and I'm very close to finish them (maybe I have 10 missions left). They get repetitive after a while, but I like that you can experiment in side ops without worrying about a grade like the main missions. I remember many intense and exciting gameplay moments that I won't forget anytime soon.

The teleportation tech in this game is amazing, was re-doing some of the earlier missions to get objectives done, tried headshotting a driver and missed..then the car and it's 3 passengers veered off to the left, hit a rock then teleported 600m away into a base.

Strangelove being Otacon's mom seemed really fucking unlikely. I liked Strangelove in general and I thought her death tape was the best voice acting in Phantom Pain but it just...for her to have a kid with Huey seemed so fucking unrealistic given everything about both of their characters that I was just like "Yeah, okay, sure."

Also Huey was just awful. Like...every single thing he could've done wrong he did wrong and there wasn't a situation that wasn't made ten times worse by his existence. It is astonishing they let him hang out on base for as long as they did. Such a goddam coward.

But are you a bad enough dad to save the president?

I'm sorry

I feel like none of the side ops are really crafted enough to encourage that kind of creativity. After the 5th tank mission it was much easier just to fulton everybody and get out.

So. Uh just finished the game.

Just a couple things:

Did anyone really not see the twist coming ?
The prologue suggested that right away, with the useless avatar editor and with Ishmael being lot cooler than the character you're supposed to believe is Big Boss.
The game clearly showing he just left after the ambulance crash confirmed that for me.

After all, Kojimas pr stunt had to have some significance.

Then again, everything the guy does is thoroughly scrutinised and spawns all kinds of crazy theories. Every possible twist had been discussed before the game even launched, so it was inevitable for some people to guess.

Questions:

- why does ocelot tell Venom Eli has a different DNA ? Isn't Ocelot supposed to treat Venom as to make him believe he is the real big boss ? At that point in the game I was sure Eli=Liquid and Venom/=Big Boss. That just made me believe Ocelot had been fooled too.
Hell why would they even compare their DNA's ?
They know chopper guy has no clones.

Why didn't Ishmael just let Venom get killed in the hospital ? The whole point in building a phantom is having him get killed in your place, so the enemy stops looking for you. Why even turn someone into your doppelganger ? It would only make sense if you thought he would get killed, but BB was confident he would do alright.

What triggered Venom's realisation? I just did some stupid side mission and 46 popped up :P

Also, while the twist doesn't really do a great job at trying not to look like twist for the sake of twist, I really liked the way it was presented in the end. The scene in the mirror and the msx tape were great. I could have done without the ending credits explicitly telling me it was Venom who started OP. Intrude 313, and just infer that with the tape though.

- Nope saw the twist coming. Most people predicted the twost before the game came out, people just didnt expect to do a twist that would basically waste our time
- Ocelot told him because ocelot put himself under hypnosis to forget big boss was away establishing outer heaven, so he believed that Venom was the real snake.
- Compared DNA because ocelot was aware of the les enfants terribles project
- Didnt want benom dead because he wanted venom to build up his reputation whilst BB was doing other shit, and he believed in Venom because of how skilled he was and would completely take away attention from outer heaven
- Realisation seems rushed due to game being unfinished basically and he suddenly just receieves the tape.

Ocelot hypnotised himself to think that Venom was the real Big Boss so he carried out the test to confirm that this random white kid with a British accent they found in Africa was in fact a terrible infant and not just any of the other hundreds of random white, blond, British kids running around Africa. It coming up negative should have been a surprise to Ocelot and he theorises that maybe Eli did something to the sample because he's a crafty little shit (but Eli does call Venom Father implying he knows he's a clone of Big Boss).

The entire body double thing falls apart if you give it any amount of thought. Big Boss actually woke up before Venom and had plenty of time to leave the hospital safely while people still thought he was dead or in a coma. Venom dying in the Hospital while looking like Big Boss wouldn't really work because XOF would likely get DNA confirmation BUT you don't need a double if people think you are dead or know you are in a coma but don't know where (so they are looking for something they will never find). Big Boss made Venom to get the heat off himself when there wasn't really any heat on him.

Nothing triggers Venom knowing. Well, the tape he gets during operation intrude N313 triggers it (because Big Boss explains). Nothing triggers the mission in the story, it's just a stupid and clumsy way of revealing the twist.

Is the photo of Morpho, Kaz, Boss and V always flipped to conceal V, or does that only happen after you beat mission 46?

Also, what master of stealth is taking these photographs? Especially the one of Eli. Nobody else was there. Photographer is the true phantom of this game

MGS IV reveals that the cameraman is actually the real Big Boss and also creator of the real Stealth Camo.

I always find it hilarious that Quiet's photos are gone. I mean, Huey is understandable, but the person that saved your ass twice and whom you voluntarily frolicked in the rain with?

I know right? If anything it would make more sense to have her photo there AFTER she's gone rather than while she's with you. As a memento.

Maybe Venom got super depressed, ripped the photos to shreds, and proceeded to tearfully eat ice cream while taking a shower.

That's because Quiet never existed. She was just a hallucination, a manifestation of 9 years of pent up sexual energy.. Kaz and Ocelot were there when Paz was reintroduced, so you can't really trust that Quiet is real even when they're arguing about her. You were just getting sniper support from another Diamond Dog.

Breh the whole game was a hallucination.

My new headcanon is that PW in its entirety was one of Venom's hallucinations. Maybe after getting all of BBs past missions implanted in his brain he filled in the blanks with some ridiculous story with The Boss as an AI to give himself some motivation as BB.

Venom's existence is validated if I can use him to somehow undo PW.

Actually, the more I think about this the more it works. It would explain why Snake acted like such an idiot in PW and seemed to have completely forgotten the debriefing he got at the end of MGS3. Makes sense that he'd fill in so many blanks since Venom would only know the main events of BB's life and probably not the little intricacies involving The Boss. He "remembered" the incidents with The Boss's AI and built himself a little narrative around it. Yup, I'm gonna roll with this.

All the photos would do is remind him of her, and considering she's now a walking patient zero, it's not like he expects to see her again on positive terms.

The real big boss does it. Best photographer

Why are people saying Kaz is blind? he clearly sees shabani's necklace with his walker and even pokes it a couple of times.

Maybe its Cataracts.

The game could have used a few ghost photography missions. Maybe a photoshoot with The Sorrow in the rain.

The lack of a digital camera item is a bit weird for an MGS game. But I guess with modern share features on consoles and PC, it isn't necessary. But still, a photography mission would have been great. Like snapping evidence of a shady nuke deal going down. Even Ground Zeroes had a similar style mission with Deja Vu.

If this game has taught me anything, it is this.

Big Boss and Solid Snake are fucking pussies compared to V.

;P I kid I kid, but man, fuck the Skulls fights. Seriously.

Why is the character named Quiet the most audible character in the entire game?

She hums constantly, and leaves a string of sonic booms+huge dust clouds whenever she moves around. Also, despite being a prisoner, she's apparently the only one on the base that has an audio entertainment system...in her cell.

There's a secret meaning to that hypocrisy, there must be.

With the amount of detail going into the design of this game, you'd think this is the kind of stuff they went the extra mile for instead of using screenshots of existing cutscenes.

Sins will be cleansed through hypocrisssssyyyyy

Edit: These are incorrect lyrics and I am ashamed of myself

Or how about her being able to escape with zero issues from the cell and teleport seemingly at will but she frequently finds herself tied up.

I mean how does that even make sense.
