You realize that most people don't like unlockable characters to begin with, right? It's just that the lesser of two evils in this case.
That's what I'm saying. Akuma fans are accustomed to playing as him right out of the box, it would kill all hype if Capcom announced he was unlockable in this one.

Tournament organizers would not like it but how do you know most other people don't like unlockable characters? I suspect a lot of casuals would enjoy having characters unlocked for accomplishing goals in single player or multi.

Smash 4 was played on an old version with Lucas, Ryu, and Roy banned. That was June 14th.

So the cutoff date is a month before EVO. So characters must be released within 3-4 months of release day if they want to be in EVO.

Capcom are really taking the tournament scene into account so I doubt they would do something that goes against that. Unlockable characters that can not be bought would go against that.

They just need a tournament mode. Any freely unlockable characters are available, button config on select screen, and no handicap option.

You had to unlock him in 4.
And that's one of the reasons people still distrust Capcom. Did you forget the outrage? Look the point is, Capcom will never release DLC characters for SFV for at least a few months, otherwise they're stealing money from players.

Although then they're keeping characters away for an arbitrary reason, but Crapcom gonna Crapcom I guess.

People complained about unlockable characters in Vanilla SFIV & Vanilla MvC3, & the concept was removed from SSF4 & UMvC3 onwards.

I can tell you this , people are going to love unlockables over buying the game again and again. OR Paying for DLC characters.

And as long as Capcom allows some kind of USB method to just bring your profile to the tournament machine. You just need to login to your id and play.

Sure they could be bought why not or what ferrio said.

People don't like having to grind them out. If they were timed unlocks, it might be a different story.

Yeah if it is so hard as to be considered a grind sure they wouldn't like that but we don't know their plans, i would imagine that if there was early dlc the logical thing to do would be to make this particular dlc easy to unlock (to make the transition to this model easier) through single player content or few matchs of multi.

Why are we even having this argument? I 100% I remember a Capcom rep saying that when the game launches, there will nothing to spend fight money on because there'll be no DLC yet. Don't have a source so if someone else who remembers this could corroborate me here that would be swell.

Exactly, we'll definitely have to wait at least until after EVO (6 months?) or fans will riot.

That doesn't say anything about the majority and i assume that casuals usually don't buy these updates as much as hardcore players do.

I've watched every interview that I've come across and I don't recall them saying that. Only that when you buy the game all 16 of those characters will be playable and you won't have to unlock any of them. They did not confirm or deny any "Day 1 DLC" characters specifically as far as I recall. I'm pretty sure I would have remembered it.

If anyone does have them saying there will be no DLC at launch conclusively, please post the source. I want to hear their language used. It wouldn't surprise me if they waited a few weeks, though just to avoid complaints about holding back characters.

You're right. I think it was you who corrected my interpretation of that video. So far they have said that and they also said that there will be no on-disc dlc.

I've been following this game closely, was at the evo panel, and don't remember hearing this.

Link?

I really don't mind beating arcade mode with different characters to unlock others. I'm never going to be super competitive online and like having goals to play for in single player.

They're just unnecessary because you can have the same experience while also giving the option of buying them. I'm assuming you mean unlockable characters like they used to have in older fighters.

Well, he was willing to bet a smaller sum without someone else having specific alternatives, so if he's got the cash and the confidence then we have a bet.

I think the DLC issue would be greatly offset by the fact that we can actually unlock characters without paying real money. The more offensive thing was having fully completed characters locked behind paywall. With that said, Ferrio is kinda right, because people absolutely still would complain, just not necessarily the same people. There would be articles/posts from people who don't really play Street Fighter who point to Capcom being anti-consumer and stuff, just like we had people complaining about the Shenmue 3 kickstarter.

After thinking about it more, for something like that much money I'd rather go with my initially proposed bet of my 2 vs your 2. While I am confident in those two based on a logically inferred knowledge, I know it's not 100% and it'd be a bad call to play with that money while putting a huge percentage of odds against me. So I'd be down but only if you pick two characters as well, leading to a wash if neither are picked.

Someone planted that memory in your brain.

gief/sim vs alex/urien specifically and only is a more hype bet from a spectator perspective, if I can chime in

Someone change the thread title. I got $5 on vulva
( Not really )

Qcfx2 Vs Vulva
"Siliconera" Vs "Classic characters"
Hope Vs Logic
Popular Vs Mainstream
SF 3 Vs SF 2
Freaks Vs Geeks

WHO will be victorious...

ono's going to be in mexico city on the 2nd. possible new reveal?

Yoshinori Ono ‏@Yoshi_OnoChin 25m25 minutes ago
I and Blanka will visit toELECTRONIC GAME SHOW @EGSmexico atMexicoCity in 2nd Oct.We're making preparation about autograph session at there.

I think Alex/Urien will be the two, but if not, I don't necessarily think it would be Gief/Sim as a pair either.

The next reveal will be interesting. I hope it's the one of the classics instead of a new character though.

I think one 3s character and gief would make a lot of sense. I would like gief and urien (without charge moves) personally.

I hope its Fuerte. I'm not optimistic. (about Fuerte or a reveal in Mexico)

I don't think we'll get a character reveal at Mexico, if we do get a reveal at NYCC that would make 3 reveals in the span of a week, no way.

I hope it's a Mexico stage or something.

Has there been a show where they haven't had some sort of new information, even if not a character reveal?

Also, there are a crazy amount of shows nowadays. Ono's doing a ton of traveling. How does he get any work done?

Oh yeah I forgot the Brazil show is next.

After trying Alex in 3rd strike I'm kind of feeling him. Granted it was against the cpu but a grappler with charge moves is fun. Really hope he makes it in the initial roster

By putting his health on the line, he just works ultra hard.

He went to Shanghai once, but didn't reveal anything there.

Perhaps we will get single player content info from mexico, there hasn't been any information about that at all. I doubt it is another character reveal and i would imagine that esport or online events-modes reveals would probably happen in a major tournament.

edit: or maybe we get nothing, doesn't he usually say prepare for announcement or something like that to create hype?

I love hybrid grapplers, one of the reasons why so many of the KOF grapplers are so fun. Was nice Capcom embraced them for once in SF3 and a bit in alpha.

This would be the only adjustment I'd be fine with. Only 3 possible scenarios: both my guys are in (I win), both his guys are in (I lose), anything else (wash).

We don't know if that's Necalli's stage. Only thing we know about that stage is that it's related to the Illuminati and that it was inspired by New Zealand. Also that it could potentially be in the same place as that Alpha stage.

He said a stage reveal, I'm just saying if they were to reveal a stage in Mexico it would be his. I don't think they're going to show anything at this Mexico event and the New Zealand is probably his anyway, as I always bring up.

Yeah plus I love his design. I think he would look good in V
And Ono please give us a date for the next beta

The thing I disagree with most here is that everyone seems to think there will be a deluge of characters being added through DLC and that every char whose ever been in SF before will eventually show up. I think we'll get 4-ish per year at most, and 1-2 of those will be new.

Roster bloat hurts these games as it forces you to learn more match ups and character skill overlaps mean some inevitably become obsolete. A game with 50 characters is a lot more daunting to a new player than a game with 20.

There will probably be stage DLC, costume DLC, maybe other things that haven't been talked about like guides, challenges or player-specific cosmetic effects. I don't think (nor hope) thy start shoving every fan favorite character in the game over the first two years.
