Topware Interactive unveils Gears of "Scivelation," post-apocalyptic UE3 shooter

Unreal 3 engine? I'm glad they made that clear. I don't think I could've made that out otherwise.

Doesn't really look appealing.

I put some screens from IGN up. Just click them to see the full-size.
Awesome.

It looks good enough. But I think I'll stick to a shooter I know I'll like. They really are extremely hit or miss with me.

“Scivelation will transform the Third-Person Shooter genre into an unrelenting interactive experience, hurling the player into a blockbuster journey, steeped in conflict and veiled in uncertainty.”

what a shit-tastic piece of copy. the only words in that sentence that aren’t complete bullshit are third, person and shooter.

why announce this on a Sunday? oh yeah, cuz you know no one’s gonna give a shit anyway.

The very definition of the word generic.

edit: oh great, from the team who brought us Two Worlds.

I'm pretty sure the game will be every bit unrelenting. Not in the way they probably intended though.

Oh yeah, and I don't buy games with names I cannot say. I'm not going up to the game shop man and blurting out "Can I get a copy of Sci... Sciv... Scivel... Yeah that one."

oh goody, a grim and gritty 3rd person shooter. call me Mr grumpy, but i don't see this being anything other than mindless. also, it being from the developer that brought us the utterly execrable "Stalin vs The Martians" doesn't exactly fill me with a case of the excitement rainbows. ugh.

(also, that name is completely ridiculous. and to think that people are paid to come up with toss like that :lol )

Seriously. I still don't know how to pronounce it :lol

My guess would be Si-ve-lation...

but what words is it combining? to be slightly more generic, it decided to go for the "lets be edgy and possibly combine the words Science, Evolution and the name of a Mexican Striker playing for Arsenal." approach, ensuring that all bases are covered then :lol

No, it won't.

My guess is they had two titles, couldn't make their minds up and decided to awkwardly mash them together to create a new word and it's the lamest word ever.

Science and revelation?
I want to pronounce it as Shiv-elation though. Because it's way more awesome.

science + revelation = scivelation

“Set in the distant future, Scivelation’s universe is a world born out of the ashes of conflict and misery. An oppressive global dictatorship, known as the Regime, has risen to power after the aftermath of the Apocalypse; aggressively seeking out and eliminating any opposition to their tyrannical government. With this capricious, dystopian reality as a backdrop, the player will take his or her place amongst the ranks of the resistance, waging war throughout the furthest reaches of the globe in this action-packed battle for freedom and survival.”

How original!

Does UE3 ship with some GeoW art assets?
Serious question
I just dont understand why I keep seeing that fucking game in sooooo many UE3 products.

I think it would be awesome if this was a Christian stealth recruitment game designed to appeal to a certain demographic (young males). You know, like the gaming equivalent of "Christian rock", or those incredible awesome blockbuster Left Behind movies starring Kirk Cameron.

Why would you pay to license this? An oppressive global dictator ship known as the Regime? Holy shit you're blowing my mind here!

So:
- made with UE3
- third person shooter
- main character in heavy armor
- gritty post-apocalyptic setting
- war-ridden dystopia
- it has sci-fi in the fucking title

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I couldn't have found a better way to troll current games, ever.
Oh, wait...

Yes, actually. At least, that's what I've heard from several sources.

I'll bet a tenner it has some sort of cover mechanic, too.

That global dictatorship could really use a better marketing department. Calling yourself Regime? I mean, c'mon.

Didn't they provide the GoW source code to make up for not delivering the engine on time?

I'm sure it was part of the SK lawsuit.

They hired Emperor Gestahl's campaign manager. You know, the Emperor of... the Empire.

I remember in Epic's response that they claimed to waive a number of fees because they failed to deliver some engine upgrades in time and the PS3 version of the engine was behind the that of the 360 engine.

Well I can see why it's a safer bet to go with gritty, metal-armored shooters set in post-apocalyptic settings. They sell well! Call of Juarez and Wet are definitely not flying off shelves (not that they were anything special).

It would be refreshing to see some colour though. Is the UE3 engine completely incapable of brighter, non-shooter environments?

I wonder what the water cooler talk was in this games' world when "The Regime" was first formed.

"That Names a bit ambitious isnt it?"
"Yeah, but is suppose now that they've stated their intentions, then there's NO chance they'll take over"
(One Event Later)
"fuck"

MIrror's Edge? The Last Remnant? Lost Odyssey?

UE3 is just an engine. What's done with it is totally up to the dev.
