Street Fighter V Roster Discussion: P-P-P-P-PATTERN BREAKER

Rufus at ComicCon makes too much sense. He saw the New York stage in the background of Ken Masters's official art and went to New York looking for him.

go away, like for real.
There's actually a cameo by Alex, and just as Rufus is about to fight him the real Ken Masters shows up and you fight him instead.

"Wait, that's Ken Masters?! Get lost loser! Time to show the world the best fighter in America!"

The V in Street Fighter V is representative of Rufus's neck line, he saves the world and defeats Gill because he thinks Gill was Ken Masters doing Braveheart cosplay.

They could modernize his design by giving him a hat that says "The Best Fighter in America" and having him kick El Fuerte out of the game during the intro.

It would be a mistake on Capcom's part. You don't want to cannibalize hype. Plenty of people would drop SFV and wait for the Versus game. Possibly even myself. Plus, where is the funding coming from?
Yup.

Sony'll obviously be helping with whatever the follow up title is. I suspect the follow up title won't have the LoL structure SF5 has though, and will be a more traditional expansion-based model.

I think they'll base that decision on how much $$$ SFV pulls in. If the P2DLC model works well, then I think they'll stick with it.

Why so much hate for the Twins here?
I find their gameplay and design to be uninteresting. I wouldn't say I hate them on the same tier as Rufus, but they're around Abel and Cody for me - completely forgettable.

My thoughts are more that it would cannibalize in ways that wouldn't be good for either title if both have the same model. (I also don't see a piecemeal strategy working for a VS game if they go that direction.)

They're just like the least interesting characters. When AE came out it was the most disappointing thing when you realized they were the newcomers, they're like white bread. I never even played AE, but they're not fun to watch either.
I'd gladly take both Yun & Yang over Rufus any day of the weak.
And before anyone says "Neoxon hates all SFIV newcomers", I do like Crimson Viper, Juri, & Hakan.

This is different game though.

*fist bump*
Even though I prefer Yun myself

Apparently so. Yun isn't even that good in USF4..
Hahahhahahaha. Really? Where you hear that? Yun is easily top 10, maybe top 5 even with the patch nerfs he got. There is a reason why Kazunoko still plays Yun.

Yeah, utter contempt for his character.
Right! It's nice to have emotions some times. That's why I'd argue that Seth was a pretty effective boss too. People really feel antagonized by his existence.

Yun and Yang might as well be renamed "Two more characters" on the select screen.

What's stopping Makoto from showing up?

I thought with the timeframe of SFV (taking place before 3rd Strike) that she would be too young/not strong enough yet to be a contender. I know they ignored all that with USFIV, but with Capcom's focus on story this time around it seems unlikely.

I guess we'll have to see how much the story is actually going to affect the roster in the long run with DLC.

I don't mind fat characters, Bob is an example of a fat character done right. It's just that they majorly dropped the ball with Rufus, who no longer has a reason to exist now that Yun & Yang are in the SFIV games. As for Seth, he's just plain boring.

If they're putting characters in this game because they're beholden to a storyline, then they're going about the entire character selection process the wrong way. The canon doesn't matter. Putting the four SF2 bosses in the SF2 box makes sense.

Cuz fuck dive kicks?
and fuck genei jin

Because they're awful.

Divekicks. They made a whole game because of the hate.

This.

Fuck Yun tho ;)

Just what Japanese media needs more of. Cocky teenagers. Hooray.

Y'all on some bullshit.

Yun's incredibly obnoxious to play against.
As a Yun player.... this is true. We're cocky.

They ignored it with Alpha 3Max Upper. Yun was putting SF chars in line before SFII apparently.

You mean Yun and Yang had no reason to exist in SFIV because they already had Rufus. And what's this about fat characters? Rufus is annoying because of his stupid hair, voice, and personality thank you very much. And how can a man with a Ying Yang in his chest be boring? And the point is at least Rufus has stuff you can complain about character wise. Something profoundly terrible is better than a waste of space.

Capcom focus on the story doesn't mean they'll ignore their retcons.

If anything they'll go on from SF4 and SF3 will get retconned too.

That's exactly why I hate him.

Why so much hate for the Twins here?

Characters with powerful divekicks eliminate a lot of the street fighter gameplay. They get around a lot of normal footsies and zoning in the neutral because of their highly manipulable air movement. It's not broken and it's not necessarily a bad thing for gameplay design, but it can be extremely frustrating for a lot of players. Yun in particular has disproportionate damage vs the opportunity cost of his approach options.

There's a reason Seth Killian used to say that dive kicks are the most powerful tool in Street Fighter games.

Speaking of SFIV newcomers, I could see Crimson Viper's V-Skill being her Optic Laser so she won't conflict with Necalli. This is assuming that Crimson Viper is DLC.

Yun wears a baseball cap so he gets a pass from me. GOAT headwear.

I sincerely hope that story doesn't dictate the roster.
I love playing Yun, I just recognize when he's not fun to play against for a lot of people :P

My favorite character to play is Omega Seth who is even more bullshit lol
You two are cool with me.

Funny thing is I don't think I've ever seen anyone use Necalli's divekick much in SF V.

It's not unheard of by Capcom. They announced both MvC3 and SFXT within 3-4 months in 2010.

I find the whole branding of SF related services and tournaments interesting. Capcom Cup, Capcom Pro Tour and Capcom Network all points towards the company intending to apply the same successful branding to their other fighters imo. We are already 2 years into the generation, the announcement of another fighter from Capcom if exists will probably happen within 6 months to a year if they don't intend to release the game towards the later half of the generation. They usually don't announce games like that at E3, and they stopped hosting Captivate. Why not at PSX2?

For the funding, it depends on the title:

Capcom All stars- the most obvious one, and could probably be funded by themselves if they are re-using assets from MvC3. Sony support is also possible much like the SFV situation.

Playstation vs Capcom: Could be tied into PS's 20th anniversary, and obviously Sony would be funding. I doubt it though

Marvel vs Capcom 4: It could be a joint project between Disney, Sony and Capcom, or Disney and Capcom by themselves. Capcom has always been the best developer to work on Marvel IP, and the fan demand is real. Disney has to be aware of that. They are also probably aware of an Injustice 2 that is probably going to be announced soon from their competitor, and these fighters tend to do well in the market. It might be another incentive to push for their own version, and tie it somehow to Disney Infinity.

I think the scene currently can support both a new number SF debuting in 2016, and a new Vs. game in 2017 if Capcom handles the latter like how they are with SFV currently.
