When you think about Gray Fox actually would have been a better body double. Would better establish his loyalty to Boss and he would actually have the skills to do everything that boss can do. Of course I would have wanted to play the real boss and be done with this silly twist instead.

The fact that he just called him "medic" in GZ suggested that.
That doesn't change anything. My best friend was a paratrooper in the opening invasion of Iraq. You can call people by their specialties for shorthand, and it doesn't mean they don't have other qualifications. I mean, of course you would. You'd say "get me the medic," not "get me the medic who is also an adept soldier, spy, etc."

Are you seriously suggesting that because he's called "the medic" that's all he can be? He's dressed like a rank-and-file soldier and is the only MSF member outside of Morpho who is accompanying Boss on his mission. He's not just some nobody. (In terms of skill set, I mean. Of course he's a blank slate as a character.)

I'm sure just like every MGS installment, if there was an MGS6 Kojima would retcon the medic into the backstory. This is nothing new. There were characters and concepts in MGS3 that weren't mentioned in MGS1, etc.

Largely because those characters had been dead for decades.

The overall gist here is that its very easy to pull some plot out of the air to justify anything. A skilled writer restricts themselves to what is plausible and entertaining given the context, not just the vast, almost infinite extent of the possible.

Those concepts came back in titles set -after- MGS1, so I don't think the "dead for decades" excuse holds muster. The fact is, Kojima has been retconning for far longer than MGSV, and the lack of an identifiable medic in PW isn't some egregious crime. It also wouldn't be the first suggestion that BB has some kind of relationship with -all- of his soldiers. It's not farfetched to think there would be a soldier he considered among his best, and who (like many great soldiers in real life) had a specialty, in this case field surgery. And that was "the medic," in this case.

So why did Snake turn into Skullface in the launch trailer? What was the point of that?
i guess to allude to the general theme of vengeance and how it can turn you into a demon, or worse, into skull face...

and sort of the demon points system... though the last 2 faces from the trailer aren't really included in that

i thought it meant we could unlock a skull face head option item q_q or the final demon form had the bloody jaw-showing ghoulish face (or some Skull Face/Snake/Ishmael/Ahab twist lol)

So its entirely plausible that a solider superior to the best soldier of the 20th century gets pulled around on Morpho's helicopter as a largely unused medic just in case Big Boss needs some field surgery.

A business which rents soldiers out for money keeps their best prize hidden on a helicopter.

Maybe its dramatic irony and their main field surgeon actually belongs on the battlefield.

And why not send the medic to get Chico? He could have preformed the field surgery in Camp Omega and saved Morpho. And Big Boss. Skull Face's plan would have failed. Kaz, give me a call, I've got some great ideas.

This so much. It's probably the worst complaint about the game and borders on disrespectful.

I don't see why this is so hard to understand.

You have a star soldier. Perhaps on any other day he'd be leading a team on combat deployment. So when a super-sensitive mission comes up, and BB thinks that more than one person on the ground is a liability, he brings the medic, and the medic stays on the chopper ready to tend to the POWs.

The reason is that chopper is going to be vulnerable. If it goes down, the medic will have to fight. So you don't put just a doctor in there. You bring your best soldier who can also do the medic work that needs to be done.

This is not exactly unheard of in real-life militaries.

Some may say I'm just poorly photoshopping Skull Face into the background of MGS3. But isn't that what Kojima did

So since we're clear into writing fan fiction territory, any other MSF major operational details we can invent?

I'm pointing out the nature of the mission and how real-life medic specialties work. If you're not interested in having a discussion, just agree to disagree.

So this is what we've been reduced to? Writing fanfic to make up for the silliness in the story. Seriously though, I do hope those new novels get translated and maybe explain some things to make them less stupid.

No, it's been reduced to people needing the game to explicitly explain to them how a medic can also be a soldier. Maybe it's because I have military friends, but this seems like old hat to me. Ah well.

Here's the first image from the collection, which has come to me from this very reliable source. These pictures were taken by the designated Field Photographer in Skull Face's XOF unit.

Here, you can clearly see Skull Face backing up Snake in his battle against world class sniper The End.

fanfic? Where. The Skull face stuff is all real. Kojima said so.

Yeah i know you're talking about what Neito is saying about the medic. That's not really fanfic tho. All he's saying is the medic can be a good fighter and a good medic. How hard is it to understand?

This is great.

Everyone keeps talking about Quiet's story.

I didn't get any big cutscene with her. Am I supposed to do something to trigger that?

Mission 45 is the end of her story.

There are other dumb cutscenes like mangled 100% bond cutscene where she dances in the rain and the Kojima spank bank material where if you go back to the base dirty and she showers with you as MB staff cat call from out the cell.

But this medic is so good he is able to bring down a metal gear...

At that point find a new medic and put him on the combat team.

It's a recurring theme in the series. Unproven rookies rising to greatness. It's clear he was good, and they saw the potential, though. Hence the body double scheme.

Also, when you're working for BB, and BB thinks missions like GZ need one man and no more, well, doesn't matter how good you are.

Not suprisng people resort to fanfiction when nearly everything about this plot is contrived and only built up for you to get the rug pulled under you at the end. It being unfinished helps too.

It sounds like I don't want to do that.

Also, the best retcon this game gave was that Miller invented McDonald's.
tbh you don't. Just keep the butterfly emblem on and she'll stay forever. Just YouTube mission 45.
tho its a pretty good ending for her imo. Keeping her with the emblem kind of cheapens the whole thing. Your call (boss).

Naw, Medic (kinda wish he had a real name now) can and most likely was a really good fighter. I can accept that just fine. Him being as good as actual BB seems ridiculous though, and being hypnotized into him believing that is just a ridiculous explanation. Not as ridiculous as Skull face being secret back up, but close enough.

MGSV's medic role was written by people who understand medics in real-life can also be highly skilled soldiers.

They didn't anticipate some fans would stubbornly refuse to understand this real-world concept.

A clone made from flawed recessive genes ends up being better than both the real BB -and- Venom, so I wouldn't get hung up on it. One of the long-running messages in the series has been that your origins don't matter. Those in power keep failing to understand this and keep trying to manufacture greatness instead.

Here is the second photo. He's a little harder to make out, but obviously Skull Face is providing backup against perhaps Snake's most dangerous foe, The Ladder.

If only Snake knew his last second victory was thanks to our phantom friend.

This is amazing. I picture Snake falling, Skull Face catching him and saying "Such a lust for gravity," before using the MIB device to erase his memory.

Why are you still on about medic's role? I can accept the fact that he's the best guy and that he's on the helicopter and called medic by BB. It's just incredibly contrived and bad writing overall,
the whole set-up and twist. And sadly, that's not even MGSVs biggest problem when comes to its story.

These are fantastic. I'm giggling like a kid.
