Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

About to drop a cool $70 on DLC.
I feel disgusted in myself, yet so excited.

Do we know when the prices revert back from being a dollar?

Googled. Seems that all pre rb3 dlc has been a dollar since 2012. Do we have any reason to think theyll raise it?

Where do you go to do this? Is it a website or are you loading one of the original games on PS3/360 and just buying up songs?

I have been completely out of the loop for Rock Band 4 since I had decided not get the game. But when the U2 announcement was made, I kind of flipped out and am definitely getting the game now.

I owned Rock Band 1 & 2 on 360, still have the same GamerTag on Xbox Live as I do now, what do I need to do to get all the songs I bought in those games and have them available in Rock Band 4? I went to their website, but little to no information on what I need to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FyreWulff's Next Gen Guide To Quickly Expanding Your Rock Band Library

None of this guide requires you to own a 360 or PS3, or even put in a disc. This guide will also only cover methods that work 100% right now; it may be possible to get some other expired exports and offers, but YMMV.

Rock Band 1 Export Key - 5$
Xbox | Playstation
This will give you 54 songs compatible with Rock Band 4. You do not need the Rock Band 1 disc; this key will become a digital download on your One and PS4.
Value: 10 cents per song

Rock Band Blitz - 15$
Xbox | Playstation
This will give you 25 songs compatible with Rock Band 4. And a game! All of Blitz's songs are available individually on the store otherwise. It's likely Blitz will be compatible with the One's Backwards Compatible mode as well.
Value: 60 cents per song

Rock Band 2 Harmonix Pack - Free
Xbox | Playstation
This is a pack of Harmonix songs from Rock Band 2 that were given to everyone for free!
Value: Freedom cents per song

Rock Band Track Pack Volume 2
Check your favorite retailer, new copies only
A physical disc release that contained a collection of 20 Rock Band DLC songs that also includes a marketplace code for that disc's console family. Notably, it's the only way you can now obtain Snow ((Hey Oh)) by RHCP, which was pulled from the store due to license expiration, making it worthwhile to get this song pack. You only need to redeem the code from the manual to obtain the songs.

Value: 65 cents per song . Average price of the Track Pack is 13$

Various Free Songs
These songs are free on the store for promotional reasons.

Still Alive [X | P]
Am I Crazy [X | P]
Charlene [X | P]
I Still Believe [X | P]

Rock Band: Green Day
While the game's export has officially expired (it may or may not work for you at this point), the entire disc setlist is available on the store as regular DLC in album packs and singles.

Songs Re-released
Rock Band 1: The covers of Run to the Hills [X | P] (non-export) and Tom Sawyer [X | P] (export) have the original artist studio versions available on the store, which are linked. Wanted Dead Or Alive [X | P] is available as RB3 DLC. It's also available as part of the Bon Jovi: Greatest Hits Pack [X | P].

Rock Band 2: Alive (export expired) has a Live [X | P] version on the store. Give It Away [X | P] (non-export) and Spoonman [X | P] (non-export) are available as DLC singles or via the Blitz export. Livin' On A Prayer [X | P] is available as RB3 DLC. It's also available as part of the Bon Jovi: Greatest Hits Pack [X | P].

Lego Rock Band: Fire (export expired) has a Live [X | P] version on the store as a single or as part of the "Are You Experienced" album pack [X | P]. We Will Rock You [X | P] and We Are The Champions [X | P] are available as RB3 DLC in the store. You Give Love A Bad Name [X | P] is available as RB3 DLC in the store. It's also available as part of the Bon Jovi: Greatest Hits Pack [X | P].

DLC: Fortunate Son [X | P] , Working Man [X | P], Limelight [X | P], and Number of the Beast [X | P] all have a studio version of the song that was released after the cover version. The cover versions are still available on the store, so pay attention to the big "As Made Famous by" when shopping on the store. I've linked the studio versions.

We should repost this on every page. I wonder how many times this has been asked? Lawl.

Regarding the rock band 1 export key, If I already did the rockband 1 export to rockband 2 do i need to even worry about it? I should have those songs ready for Rockband 4 correct?

Yep. As long as you're using the same gamer tag, it all gets pulled up off of your purchase history.

Thanks, but unless I am missing something, that does not answer my particular question. My question is, how do I get the songs I bought from the Rock Band Store when I had Rock Band 1 and Rock Band 2? That article talks about getting the keys for the content that was on the original releases disks and some of the free songs, but nothing is mentioned on how you get songs that you purchased moved from the 360 to the Xbox One. If I am missing something in that article, I guess it needs to be pointed out to me.

store.playstation.com
Is where im getting it btw.

Theres an xbox site, links to both in the post quoted above.

They're on your purchase history for whatever system youre using. Dont worry about them if youre using the same account, when you turn on RB4 they'll be available to download for free...or eventually will be.

tldr: same gamertag, dl free

Sorry. Yeah, it uses your purchase history. So if you got it, you'll get it for free in RB4.

Thank you. That is all I needed to know. Was not sure there was something else I needed to do to get all the songs I bought all those years ago. Much appreciated!!!

It sucks yeah. But for sure this has to be something they add in an update.

Just saw BVL say it might be in the Shows mode. It HAS to be in there someway. What's the point of "all your stuff carries over" if it takes forever to get in and out of stuff? I play RB with friends and family and we choose the stuff beforehand then play because otherwise it's a slog (I'm one of those 1,000+ dlc people).

I feel you. I just looked at the Xbox One Store on the off-chance that I could download some of the songs I already own. Alas, even the stuff I've gotten from previous exports and DLC is still not available to download.

Also, is there a list of all the preorder songs?

Like, I'm pretty sure Preordering in general gets you so many songs, but digitally pre-ordering on both xbox and ps4 get you specific songs, and I think preordering from amazon gets you a different set of songs?

Is that right?

RB1 and RB2 exports carry over, but officially, you're not able to get the RB2 export any more if you don't have it already. (Some people are able to get working codes from EA Support. YMMV) It seems like the RB1 export will soon go down too as the Rock Band Twitter has been reporting it as "no longer supported", although it is still up on both the Xbox and Playstation stores. RB3 export is not supported in any way, but it seems they're looking into it.

As for preorder bonuses (US, at least)...

If you preorder the guitar bundle or band in a box bundle from Gamestop or Amazon, you get a trackpack of 30 bonus songs from Harmonix Bands:

Additionally, preordering from Amazon nets you 4 bonus songs:

Preordering a digital copy from the PSN store nets you some bonus songs if you're a PS+ member:

Preordering a digital copy from the XBL store nets you some bonus songs if you're a Gold member:

As far as I know, no preorder bonuses for those who preorder just the game itself. I believe that's all out there, though someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It's a little confusing.

Great to hear legacy DLC seems to be on track for Friday. Okay Amazon, lets get those standalone RB4 adapters out for release day...

Here's a question that's not going to be very popular here, but, does anyone really know if this Rock Band won't turn out to be like:

Background:
I own:
  • AC/DC Live Rock Band
  • Green Day Rock Band
  • Lego Rock Band
  • Rock Band
  • Rock Band 2
  • Rock Band 3
  • The Beatles: Rock Band
Now that you know I'm not some crazy troll, here's why I've been skeptical since this was first announced:

What I'm so skeptical about:
  • Instrument Compatibility: A company that prided itself on instrument compatibility in the previous generation, even with instruments from other vendors, can't even muster full compatibility with it's own released hardware?
  • Instrument Compatibility (fanatics): All of that effort catering to the hardcore crowd (the Ion drum kit, pro guitar, the midi adapter), and none of that was carried over?
  • Rock Band 3 song export: This is two-fold. The fact that Harmonix never bothered negotiating for song exports for Rock Band 3 when it was being developed really means Rock Band 3 is my Mummy 3. Take the songs from Rock Band 3 and add in the harmony support, bundle it to Rock Band 2, and you have the ultimate game. The spades system is stupid and everything else felt very unpolished. Part two will be discovered when the game is launched. If there is an export code in the box, then this isn't a cash-in by Harmonix, but a revival of a franchise.
You can tell by the fact that I brought this up that I'm highly skeptical of this
  • No online multiplayer support: Madden X, Y, or Z anyone?
  • Lack of real (official) details about the game nine days before launch: How much do we really know about the game from official press releases and demos vs. people who have demoed it or random tweets here and there? Is there a World Tour? Is there even a single-player/band campaign or is Rock Band 4 just a play-one-at-a-time setlist on your current gen console?

Any suggestions on a good USB mic for RB4 (Xbox One), just getting guitar bundle but would love to go Gutiar/Vocals again.

Wish i had the $$ for the band in a box again......

So that Penny Arcade forums RB thread mentioned nothing about the fact that I need Rock Band 3 to export all the songs I get from RB1/2/Track Packs/DLC/etc. to RB4. Is that true? Do I need RB3 to get all that content to RB4?

Speaking as someone who only played RB1 and is now getting back into the series, getting all the songs I want onto RB4 is really freaking complicated. It'd be nice if someone smarter than me did a step-by-step process.

1: I'm assuming that ps4 instruments was easy to support but didn't want to announce it just in case. Harmonix had to work with Microsoft to be able to make the adapter because of the way the xbox 360 handled drivers (or something)

2: I doubt there will be an export code because Harmonix have said they want this game to be more of an evolving platform with this game lasting the whole gen

3: They announced there was a career mode ages ago that you make decisions which can influence how your band is (sell out for money, or quiet gigs for fans etc.)

Same here. This is my first Rock Band, and the details on legacy DLC seem super shaky.

Yeah I am having some issues with that too. I have the RB1 export key bought, and 99.9% sure I exported my RB2 songs into RB3.

Just don't know how we will get the RB2/3 songs into RB4.. I guess it is something that we will just have to find out when it gets here. I am pretty sure I still have the RB2/3 disc someplace but might have sold it along the way.

Wait what. What is this?
Is this true?

waffles you have a link to where you saw that?

That's how you export those games. The odds of RB4 having a platform to enter those codes that are on the edge of expiring, is pretty much non-existant.

But if you exported in the past you should be good. Except for RB3 anyway.

We'll all get our DLC dependent on what is present in our purchase history - so any exports that were completed under RB3 will carry over, because they are part of your Marketplace purchase history. Based on that, they know what you're supposed to have and you will receive whatever content is available.

If you're new to this, the only currently active export is RB1, which I believe you can just purchase outright without a disc on 360 or on Microsoft's website. Supposedly people have had success obtaining working export codes for RB2 from EA's support, but you do need to enter that code from within RB3 itself in order to make it active.

RB3 itself has a code in the game's manual, but there is no confirmed export for it at this point.

Blitz's export should work as well, but again you need to be able to boot Blitz in order to get the pack.

All other exports are gone, hopefully Harmonix finds a way to bring some of the Lego stuff back as DLC like they did for Green Day for the people who missed out.

Also, the original Rock Band bundle was $200.

No, it most certainly was not.

Even Rock Band 2, with all wireless instruments, was only $190. Manufacturing costs, inflation, whatever, it doesn't really change that by comparison consoles now cost the same as they did back in 2007/2008, yet this particular game has an incredible markup on it.

I need a new drumset since my IONs don't work, and most of the used kits I've seen around my area are in terrible shape with broken pedals, so buying the $250 box is kind of my only option. I didn't realize til I went to preorder that it cost so much.

Are the new instruments backwards compatible with the last Gen systems?

No.

The only reason you should need RB3 is if you wanted to export RB2. The RB1 and trackpacks (fairly certain) had specific codes that you bought/entered and they essentially became DLC. Any DLC that you bought will be recognized in your purchase history, allowing you redownload them as they become available on this current generation.

So you're step-by-step process for anything except RB2 export...
1. Buy the content.
2. The content appears in your purchase history.
3. RB4 recognizes through some method (we're not sure yet) that you've bought this content and makes it available for you to download for free on your XB1/PS4.
4. You redownload your content on your new console (seemingly song by song.)

RB2 export requires the use of both RB2 and RB3 to export, as well as a working export code.

I went to look at my download history on the xbox website to see if there are any songs I want that I haven't bought yet, but it seems to only list RBN songs and a few songs that I bought on the website?

I've bought a lot more dlc than that, but maybe I need to be on the 360 to check it?

Most of the songs in that pack aren't fun to play. I basically got it for Thunderstruck.
Back in Black isn't too bad either. I was disappointed at how ridiculous the Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap solo is and the fact that stuff like that is going to be a kick in the dick in RB4 without a practice mode.
Do they not have the jack in the bottom that lets you plug in the Drum bass pedal and kick to activate OD?

According to some Reddit posts (I'm not certain myself), there is no jack on the new guitar. I did, however, forget the old guitars could use the kick pedal.
