What does "called 9NEWS at 911" mean? The fact the article mentions the hoax angle but only drops something like that in passing and very briefly makes me think it's a typo.

Another article says this:

The family initially called 911 around 11 a.m. after Falcon's brother said he got inside the balloon and detached the rope holding it in place.

I'm sorry, but I really don't think this was an intentional hoax. I mean what good would it do? Yeah the kid said he did it for a "show" but this is a family that was on two episodes of Wife Swap. He's probably just confused. I mean what on earth would the parents have to gain from this?

did you not watch the first video of the dad with his son? he spent about a solid minute explaining his "invention" before he even talked about his kid.. all of a sudden everyone in the damn world knows about it..

Er, to be fair, the kids aren't looking at her because of the fart noise. They look at her when she says "no" because she hadn't been speaking prior.

Not that "shame fart" isn't the best term ever.

Edit: But who cares? Let's make "shame fart" the #1 trending topic on Twitter.

Balloon boy vomited on the Today show.

And the father explained that the 'show' comment from his son was from someone asking him how he got in the attic. Which doesn't make too much sense to me.

And the search for the boy costed 2 million dollars

you really don't need SOUTH PARK to parody this. go back to the third season of THE SIMPSONS and watch "RADIO BART." i've referenced it twice, scullibundo has referenced it, and without being ham-handed it parallels and comments about this sort of situation in an absolutely hilarious subtle way.

Wow.:lol I'd only read about what happened on Larry King. After all this talk about shame fart, I hit on the link to the Larry King clip. Brilliant! I still think the inbreeds should get hit with a bill for the rescue efforts, but that clip is almost worth it.

P.S. And Wolf completely misses the point after he confesses. I'm gonna give you 1000 dollars Wolf... and the answer... What is a hoax.

The non stop vomitting, the other kids' reactions :lol

They're probably thinking: "Phew! Glad Falcon was the one recruited for the role. Those drugs they spiked him with just before the show to shut him up, doesn't look very fun."

I can’t stop laughing every time I hear the shame fart in that video! :lol

It just seals the deal, doesn't it? I remember hearing that in Wife Swap the family farted and belched all the gosh dang time.

Those calling for the parents jail time. What the hell is wrong with you? You don't know that this is a hoax. That boy is a child. If you've ever been around children, they mis-speak all the freakin time.

Don't take what a little boy said on live freakin television and start calling for the parents to be jailed and separated from their kids. If it's really this big of a deal, then a proper investigation could be done. But otherwise, shut the fuck up about it being a hoax.

Remember, innocent until proven guilty. And if you think what that child said as undeniable proof, then you are stupid. Remember, this whole thing started because the police was going off the words of an eight year old.

Don't try to be reasonable. They want it to be true, so god damn it it will be.

There's nothing reasonable about what he said. You have to be completely dense to not look at the gigantic stack of evidence and not understand it was a hoax.

the dad was on the TODAY SHOW this morning and you can tell he's nuts and a fucking liar just from listening to him talk for thirty seconds. the instant impression is that something is fishy.

Uh huh. This "gigantic" stack seems filled with such home runs as "microexpressions" and farting. Good work detective.

Why not leave it up to the people who'd rather not have to spend $2 million instead? I'm sure they're hot on the trail given all these clues.

Uhmm, no offensive but your 21 aye? Is getting more obvious by the minute that the welfare of the children need to be looked into.

What does my age have to do with my reasoning?

What's so hard about innocent until proven guilty?

Did you guys see the video released this morning. This seems like a hoax. The parents were there when the balloon left. How would the boy even have gotten in there without them knowing.

Also their father is crazy as hell. lol

This "gigantic stack of evidence". Would you care to explain them to me. Cause I've watched the videos and read the articles and have not seen this "gigantic stack of evidence" you're talking about.

Didn't take too long for the whiners about people calling it a hoax to show up.

Relax, leave the thread if you don't like it. Let us have our fun making fun of the obvious dumb hoaxers.

Got a link to that video cause this is the first I've heard of the parents being there?

I'm sure that had nothing to do with the obvious lack of sleep...wow pitchforks and torches for all.

Last night I said 4-5 years prison, bumped that up to 10-15. Now I'm thinking more 20-30 years in prison.

Yeah they deserve at least 20 years in prison for all those people they killed and the lives they ruined. Bastards.

shame fart ftw! i wish i was home from work when this was happening, seemed like quite the ride.

i cant believe some of you are defending this guy. hoax for sure, as soon as the question about the kids "did it for the show" comment comes up his voice changes and become nervous.

i'm not saying anything should or shouldn't happen to anyone. i'm just giving my quick-read of the situation, which over the years i've found to be pretty reliable in understanding people and whether or not they're phonies.

Sorry, but no. Not pitchforks and torches. Just common sense.

Anyone remotely okay at body language and speech can see this guy reeks of guilt.

They need to be punished so that other people are dissuaded from continuing the trend. We don't need emergency responders chasing balloons down when they can be closer to home, ready to respond to a real crisis.

So, shame-fart is just something made up or is there video evidence of it? Was it during the Blitzer interview, or...?

Yeah, during the Blitzer interview. Right after the kid rats out the parents there is a farting noise.

Watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI6UONWCq7A

Right after the boy says " I did it for the show" the moms head shakes a little and you hear a fart. It's at about 44 seconds in. They both instantly have guilty reactions and say things like they are trying to cover up for what he just said too.

Correction: His exact words are "You guys said that...we did this for the show" Both parents instantly have guilt just pouring out of them....and out of every orifice.

When making the suggestion to wait for proof of guilt becomes "defending" that's probably a cue to let the thread go. Hypocrisy is a sad thing to watch.
