Transformers Devastation (Platinum Games) boss videos on Facebook

I like how this uses the classic designs instead of Michael Bay's fuckery.

good stuff Platinum.

The Cybertron games used designs inspired by the 80s series; to be exact the designs are based on the Prime line.
Kinda surprised they're not using the Prime series' designs for this game when it was announced but good points on using the G1 designs.

This look pretty awesome. $50 for a short campaign is a little worrying though. I think I read somewhere that there will be a series of challenges though so that should add several hours.

I'm needing something to hold me over until Halo 5. This looks like a great candidate but will probably only get me through one week.

If you're the kind of player that likes to wring character action games dry by completing all the challenges, trying different characters and weapons, and going for the highest unlockable difficulties, it'll probably last you a fair amount of time. Even Bayonetta 2, which seems to be one of the longer games in the genre, only took me about 7:30 to complete the first four levels on 2nd Climax (normal), then start over and complete the game start-to-finish on 3rd Climax (hard) with the same save file. That would probably still be considered "short" to a lot of people, but there's a lot of replayability there.

So I take it the game has one campaign/story mode. However you can replay it with different characters? Is there any big story changes between them? Or is it all the same stuff?

Oh hey, I was just playing Bayonetta 2 today. You can't say you've completed the game until you've massacred Witch Trial 4 with the Rodin weapon and Takemikazuchi + Chain Chomp. So good.

Talk about replay value. If Devastation offers half as much stylish action goodness, it'll be worth full price.

And to think we got 3 more coming from Bay lol.
OH geez lol
FOUR LAST RIDES

TRANSFORM AND ROLL OUT AND ROLL OUT AND ROLL OUT AND ROLL OUT

Looking forward to senile Optimus in the last one. He'll speak only in internet memes.

i DOUBT The story has a major factor on this game, not cuz it's a TF game, but because the story wasn't a focal point during the game's development.
OP: "Megatron! What is the meaning of this?"

Really, Prime. Really?

Eh just think of it as another episode from the 80s :P

The only good thing to come out of Bay's Transformers is the Universal Studios ride...which is also a cacophony of noise and action, but it's only four minutes long instead of two hours, and you're right in the middle of it.

A valid concern considering cost.

This is exactly my reasoning for picking up Devastation now at full price rather than later at a discount. Gotta keep my mind off the hype.

Why can't we just get a movie that focuses on the Transformers and not the Humans.
Relatability or some bullshit. Blame the audience. Or studio execs who chase mass appeal for the $$$.

The budget for all that CGI would likely be through the roof.

I highly doubt that; have the focus be on a handful of characters, put effort into characterization and it can work.

CGI movies have been around for more than a decade surely a TF CGI movie can hold itself if proper effort were put into it.

Boss Spoiler:

Shockwave's theme is clearly the best in the whole game, but fuck the character. He does the most damage with field control and has shadows clones. Ridiculous since I literally had to fight Mensor, Starscream, and Blitzwing in succession before running into this guy.

Please understand.

Yeah, the endgame gets fuckin' nuts from what I've seen.

Finished the download for this today on the PS4, so I am ready to go on Tuesday.

Too bad there is no background artwork or music in the games Content Info Screen (I think that's what they call it) on the PS4 Home Screen.

Activision is fucking shit at pricing games in other regions, are there any deals? because I'm not paying their asking price.

Some traders are offering the Steam ver. for $40, Amazon.de should be offering the retail PC ver. for EUR 20, but that one releases in November.
Please understand.

Yeah, the endgame gets fuckin' nuts from what I've seen.

Would you say that
in the end it has to be this way
?

When are reviews coming in?
And who has beaten the game?

Looking for hands on impressions.

I have twice. Its more shallow than prior games but your freaking Transformers. And not the shitty ones from the past games but the actual good ones lol.

I am watching MB's Transformers right now where Optomus gives his speech holding 2 parts of Jazz and I just can't stop laughing.

Shallow in terms of content or depth in gameplay or mechanics?
Which platinum game is it closest too?

Would you say it's more or less complex than Metal Gear Rising? Because MGR isn't nearly as complex as something like Bayonetta, but there's still lots of good mechanics to dig into.

It just doesn't feel like there is as much strategy needed or well...present than I expected. Like the Transformers themselves might have taken some of that focus. Which isn't a terrible tradeoff. An IP we all wanted is what we are getting. Its just got some problems.

Less so for sure. However there are things here that are awesome. The loot system is a thing of fucking beauty.
Let me say that again Its like a mini Diablo loot in a Transformers game. Something I don't think any fan expected and being able to grind regardless of gameplay type is great.

Also creating your own upgrades with the QTE is both sort of stupid as hell and ultimatly rewarding. Not for a long time but it adds another bit of random allowing you to cultivate a unique gameplay style depending on weapons that randomly drop as well as the upgrades.

Which difficulty level did you finish the playthroughs?

are there broken op post game unlockables?
ive completed 3 chapters so far on the 'commander' difficulty.although the game time counter is little above 2 hours, i feel like ive played this a lot longer. im guessing it doesnt count time for cutscenes , menus , or challenges or anything.

and yeah i agree the weapon system is insanely fun.with the current hammer ive been levelling, i can one shot most grunts on the easiest difficulty

Anyone know if the PC DVD version will just be a steam game ? It's £17 on Amazon for the DVD or £30 odd on Steam

I would like to know this as well. I have the retail version pre-ordered because of the difference in price but I'm hoping it activates on Steam.

5-6 hours campaign x 5 characters = 25-30 hours...before the challenges and maxing out all the characters. Sounds decent to me!

Yea gonna be going for the Platinum trophy on this one so definitely gonna have plenty of content if I have to beat with all characters, just hope the combats fun enough to stop this being boring on the 3+ time through.

Do we know if we can actually select a playable character for the entire campaign?
It could just be that certain characters have their own levels.

I wonder which was based on which. WFC had a consistent style across the entire game world, not just characters, and Matt Tieger seemed to have a very strong vision for the game. Both WFC and Prime premiered on 2010 but games typically have much longer development cycles.

Still can't believe MB decided to punk one of the most popular transformers in the very first film
Amongst other things.

Optimus only has a faceplate during battle. Fuck that. The faceplate is 1 of Op's key features.

Bay fucked it up for those who still have a special connection with G1. He went mainstream and from a money making pov, I can't blame him.

But the movies have nothing to do with the TF I grew up with.

I remember the writers of the first film on a forum saying the look doesn't make the character. Some fans were a bit pissed off with Primes look, mainly the mouth. The writers replied that they needed the mouth to fully show emotion and character. A fan replied with the character was hugely popular without one and one of the most regarded characters in film history, Darth Vader, didn't have a moving mouth either. The writers never responded.

All true, but the weird thing is, I enjoyed 3 of the 4 movies so far...

I just try not to think about everything that is wrong with them, especially in regard to the G1 cartoon we grew up with, but still it's cool to see giant robots duking it out in a live-action movie.

And if I want the real deal I'm going to fire up this game from this coming weekend onwards, can't wait !
