Rumor from Japan: SNK Playmore has left Pachinko business

Yes, i know this makes no sense in 2015 but it's coming from Japan:

According to "Pachinko Village" SNKP has left pachinko and pachinslot business, Hachima Kikou said this decision was made by their new Chinese owners.

I honestly don't know if this is good or bad news, pachinko is serious money for them, but of course is awesome news if now they are fully game-oriented.

Professor from MMcafe:

SNKPlaymore will be withdrawing from the Pachislot business, according to an unconfirmed report by Pachinko industry site Pachislot Village. According to the site, SNKPlaymore currently has no new Pachislot cabinets going through approval processes, meaning they don't have anything planned for relase in the next few months. Warranty and support for currently operating machines haven't been announced yet.

With the market declining in Pachislot, SNKPlaymore will be the 5th company this year that's disappeared from the Pachislot industry due to various reasons.

That said, KOF fans don't have much to worry as the company's videogame division will keep on running and won't be effected.

I'd say this is good news for a couple reasons

1 - We know they're making at least 1 new console game in KOF, so you'd think that if that were successful they'd put more muscle into that business

2 - Considering we're hearing of cuts from other companies in that space, it means Konami's plans aren't going to go as well as they wish

The Chinese company acts fast, first they resolve SNK's dispute with Square Enix over that manga and now they kill the pachinko business.

Hopefully we will start hearing more about their cross media plans soon.

Next step is settling the beef SNK has with Capcom

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the laws regarding Pachinko in Tokyo were revised to be a lot more restrictive recently. (Don't source me on this, just going by pure hearsay.)

But at least I don't have to train hard to become a pachinko fan now. So yay.

So sad to hear Pachislot is declining.

GOOD. I'M GLAD YOU'RE HAVING A DILEMMA.

I hope Konami suffers, i really really do.

And then come back into the AAA market and hopefully no one will give a fuck, and there assetts get sold on.

What kind of restrictions would that be? Where you can put machines and the like?

Best company

Now improve KOF IV's graphics ffs

Economy is shit, gambling is on the decline.

Not that hard to figure out why they would leave now. Not to mention its not like they really have IPs that can win over folks from the kings of the pachislot arena anyways.

Though at the same time too, its not like pachislot development is actually all that expensive which is why companies are doing it for developing the software. And another company is what takes care of the actual machines and such.

The company must have seen not too good results from their division, which would be the only reason behind shuttering it. Otherwise if it was doing decently for their output, tossing that extra revenue away would not really make business sense.

They've licensed their IP for other pachinko manufacturers like Daichii to use, so they're making money from it without having to built their own, makes sense to me.

Next step is settling the beef SNK has with Capcom

That'd be great, but Capcom seems more eager to play with Namco and Nintendo nowadays. I'd still love another crossover for a Geese/Haggar match.

Sega seems like a much more viable crossover partner nowadays, at least to me.

Pachinko slot business declining.

Konami: "We're going ALL IN on Pachinko! Bet everything on pachinko! Burn all the bridges! Pachinko is the future!"

... Hope SNK gets back to making great games, and I hope Konami's "erotic violence" fad goes up in smoke.

PULL THE LEVER!

The thing is, they do not really build anything. As all they do is provide the software for said machines while another company is the one who builds the "boards" for the pachinko machines. Was talking about this stuff with a buddy that is big on the scene. Its why pachinko is a general money maker for the game companies who are producing the software for said machines. As the general development is low cost and the revenue is high if said machine is successful.

Capcom seems to be hesitating to do anything besides Street Fighter nowadays, and even Street Fighter apparently had to receive Sony money in order to be fast tracked. I don't think they'd refuse a SNK collaboration developed by SNK.

Of course, SNK needs to be able to stand up by itself against first. Let's see how their 3d KoF will end up before thinking about crossovers.

That's literally it! Pachislots, console games and mobile games!

Metal Slug Defense being their only real breakout hit in the mobile space.

I got that on my phone, but it asked me to make a google account (my youtube account didn't seem to work for some reason?) so I just didn't touch it. Its on STEAM too though, I believe?

Last time I went to try Pachinko in Tokyo, I couldn't do shit because the machines were ridiculously flashy and complex, lol, especially if you can't read Japanese. I simply couldn't find ordinary pinball pachinko ;\

Pachislots are in decline? What a great time for Konami to burn all their bridges in the gaming industry. I hope they suffer.

Looks like Pachinko is dead, now Konami will come crawling back to gamers for profit.

...are you forgetting their lucrative international business in regular slot machines, as well as the health clubs? Even if pachinko is in decline, Konami's not going to be forced back into games anytime soon.

Considering for SNK the US was never really their market anyways, doubt that matters much.

Well that's why I'm asking, I don't really know. I've heard the name but had no idea what games they were involved with until I started looking through PSX and PS2 ISOs about a week ago.

Yep, it's on Steam, although the mobile version gets updated a lot more often.

I do wish they'd port more of their games to Steam - It's understandable that they'd start with the bigger KoFs and Metal Slugs, but stuff that hasn't been ported outside the NeoGeo like Samurai Shodown 5 Special would be great, and would less known pearls like Top Hunter.

I'm not expecting any miracles. Like I said, I just hope they suffer even a little bit.
