the vast majority of tweets are calling out the idiot bigots. which sadly is causing it to trend way higher than it would have with the 1-3 bigots who started it (likely their goal in the first place)

I can't even find any racist tweets with it. Everything is simply calling it out as stupid.

Why? Not like it'll matter in any real regard.

This isnt' really a real thing. Although popularizing it made it real enough that actual racists came crawling out of the woodwork to latch onto it. So that's useful, at least.

But the whole thing was a big fat troll. It's basically only there for people to hit with a stick.

This feels like a gamergate/chan op to troll the SJWs or whatever, and like everything related to this shitshow it's backfired on the originators.

With regards to the original twitter campaign, why exactly are people against the staring actors for Episode VII being nonwhite or male, where there are thousands upon thousands of Science Fiction novels, movies, & television serials that (mostly) have a cast of white actors & leading men? Wouldn't this be a good thing to have, rather than be a deterrent?

Can we just ignore these people? There will always be crazies, and these particular ones have no real power as no one worth a damn will give a shit about what they think.

People are more likely to notice it in the biggest movie franchise of all time, I guess.

So like 3 trolls got a trending hashtag, grats internet!

Actually if you look at this thread it almost mirrors the hashtag, just people throwing out random one liners. internet-ception.

Basically.
Like I said above, this is the same thing about Elba playing Heimdall. Outrage over the outrage

But...there's two main heroes and one is white...or it doesn't count if it's a woman?

Of course it doesn't! When you have an issue with "a black" being a lead, a woman being the lead is also an issue.

Where's my Luke or Han? Where's my Obi-Wan or Anakin?

you answered your own question. Scifi and Fantasy unintentionally reinforces the "Mighty WHite Man" power fantasy, and couple that with the obsessiveness of the fanbase and you can see why shit pops off.

Man, who fuckin' cares? You can easily find a vocal micro-minority that believes anything. Especially with Twitter as huge as it is, you're never going to get a monolithic mindset on anything, especially Star Wars - where all the aliens have been racist stereotypes anyways.

There's no way that these people are serious.

I hope.

And whatever, if they are serious then I'm glad that they won't get to experience the glory of The Force Awakens.

I feel like this is a 4chan sort of thing where they create the chaos to see what happens.

It's hilarious to see people legitimately using the hashtag because they're that racist.

this is pretty much what happened. this hashtag comes from /pol/ and they're just openly racist and white supremecist now. it's just a few people with a lot of socks.

This brings up an interesting question: If someone says something obviously racist to troll, is that racism?

I would say yes, since I don't see how intent changes the action, but I get the feeling others disagree.

Ah yes, Star Wars. That well known white mythology, starring (the voice of) James Earl Jones in its most important role.

Come on. We all know Star Wars is the product of Gungan culture. That'sa why yousa no likes it, mesa tink.

at last, for christ's sake
haha, I am actually surprised it took so long

No one is boycotting shit and even if they did it would not matter at all. Just more stupid Twitter bullshit.

Did people give a shit when Empire Strikes back happened?

You could see a strong effort to add diversity after everyone in A new hope was white. Now that amounted to a bunch of dead pilots and Billy Dee Williams but was there any of this horse-shite backlash?

So is Kylo Ren a white Sith? I know Phantasm trooper leader is female.

Reminds me of when there was an actual sincere thread on GAF over racists comments on a YouTube video.

Empire Strikes Back added Billy Dee Williams, but the dead pilots were in Return of the Jedi.

Twitter was a mistake.

kind of? the biggest problem is that twitter doesn't want to police its platform. the libertarian techbros think that housing racists, bigots, sexists, harassers of kinds, etc, is just the price you pay for free speech when it actually squelches speech. twitter and reddit are only marginally better than 4 and 8chan.
