September 2015 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes October 13th

Where are these delusions coming from regarding Xbox One dropping to $299 this Holiday?

As if Microsoft wants to annihilate their profits even further, and devalue their already devalued console further.

And before anyone says they have billions, they are still running a business after all.

Delusions huh? This is Microsoft, they care more about being #1 in US than anything else. And profits will come from software sales thanks to the bigger install base.

they dropped it to $330 last black friday, didn't they? and that's when it was $399 normally.

I don't think $299 is out of the question. it won't be a permanent drop... until March when it becomes the new price.

Microsoft isn't some neurotic, deranged individual obsessed with number 1 in the US market at the cost of everything else re profits, sustainability, devaluation of their product offering etc.

What would be the point in destroying any chance of profit just to take a couple of months? - it will mean nothing in both the medium-long term as Sony will just continue steamrolling them into the ground going forward.

The Xbox division runs on a budget, like every department in a business, and doesn't just get a blank cheque to just cut the price whenever they feel like.

It would make for some very awkward internal meetings for Phil when trying to get a next gen Xbox off the ground if it loses billions again.

The August sales of the Halo bundle are what people are forgetting. Could tip things in MS's favor.

The Star Wars and COD PS4 bundles won't count until November, though, not October.

I know, I never said this month, I was just meaning how Halo will get a tip from the last 2 months when it releases, just like these 2 PS4 bundles will get a bump from the previous 2 presale months when they release.

That's a whole lot of conjecture.

XBO at $299? It will easily outsell PS4.

That's not true. There are multiple bundles in November for PS4. It makes more sense to say PS4 will have competition with XB1 at $299. XB1 has always been cheaper and PS4 still sells more. This holiday is in no way similar to last.

It's not like MS wants #1 just for the sake of it, #1 in US means a lot of profits in software and subscription sales, and that's why MS wants it.

And if XBO goes $299, Sony will be the one getting steamrolled.

Fair point, but I imagine Sony will be like this for the rest of this gen and beyond to Microsoft in terms of market share.

I'll go ahead and give Sony and Microsoft my PR starter kit for September. Here are a few buzzwords I expect to see (lol):

It will take a lot more than $50 to steamroll PS4. It has been $50 cheaper all of this year and losing consistently. Also Xbox One was way more than $50 cheaper than PS4 last holiday season when you factor in the bundled games and promotions.

You don't need to know about MS PR. It will be filled with minutes spent in Netflix, billions of frags inside MCC, and similar crap that they use when they have lost the month. :)

edit -

dammit, beaten :D
But this is the best part.
What miracles do they have prepared for us today?
Maybe they don't even mention September with a single word and go directly into praising Halo.
