I really don't understand what the GOP thought they'd get out of this. Clearly, they have no real evidence against her, and it's not like they were going to surprise her with emails that she herself had written or received. I see Hillary's poll numbers gong up after this.

They're hoping that Hillary slips up once, just once, so that Fox News can repeat a 10-second clip of it over and over for the next year.

They just want the attention from their base and those that are involved in it. Its not so much as a way to block Clinton's presidential run, its more of a way for them to look good to their supporters.

At least that's how I see it. Nothing else can explain how this has gone on for, what, 3 years?

For this, I'm not exactly sure there is a point. Some of them have to know they won't land anything. They want a moment in the sun, standing up to Clinton.

Also, you can frame the narrative that if Hillary is so innocent, why is she still being called to these hearings? Her emails?! What about her emails?! Keep it in the press to give candidates something to beat her up on.

There were a lot of moments where someone would present something with a huge smirk as if it was a "gotcha" moment. I think they were hoping that Hillary was going to slip up.
 
if they give up before finding The Truth* not only will they be disowned as rino's by the tea party, but then it will be clear that this whole ordeal was a partisan smear campaign

*truth is based on how close it matches the republican narrative

Why does it matter if their base is satisfied? Their base votes for them no matter what. All this is doing is alienating the GOP more and more form moderates. It's a dumb move.

I wouldn't be surprised if saner heads of the party tried to get them to cut this out, but the Tea Party monster they created did it anyway.

The freedom caucus keeps demanding these commitiees be formed, and because the rest of the republican establishment is terrified of being primaried they follow along.

Republicans are so afraid of the freedom caucus, no one wants the second most influential and powerful political office in the US.

In fighting game terms, they're hoping the chip damage builds up on Clinton so that for the average person that doesn't watch or even know what any of this is about will just know "Hillary had some emails, bad stuff happened." It's a little desperate, but that's the game.

I hope the GOP gets it together, stuff like this and the speaker of the house nonsense is just ridiculous.

Yeah, they'll keep dragging her through this and anything else they can cook up because it makes for good optics to their base and keeps Hillary's name in the news in a negative light. If she did nothing wrong why do they keep investigating her? You know them Clinton's always breaking the law and getting away with it.

Then they laugh off the "right-wing conspiracy" talk.

CONFIRMED: Hillary Clinton is a pathological liar. The Benghazi Committee just read her an email she wrote to her family, found on her personal server, hours after the Benghazi terrorist attack. In that email, she confirmed that it was a terrorist attack by Al Qaeda. In the following days, she told the dead American's families and she said at press conferences that it was all due to a You Tube video. That fairy tale was set up by Obama who called Google and had them find a You Tube video trashing Islam. That film producer was arrested and jailed. THIS CONFIRMS THAT HILLARY CLINTON LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING, EVEN WHEN THERE IS NO REASON TO LIE. She is unfit to be elected dog catcher!
