Halo 5 sales in the UK [Excludes digital sales]

People should game share and buy from the US. Gives you the £16 price I mentioned above! Why wouldn't you with those savings?

Are you actually buying a halo license at that price, or just game sharing someone else's? That's going to impact digital units even further.

First of all good numbers. Not the same previous halos did and what people expected. But halo franchise is nowhere near as big as it used to be.
End of an era?
Call of duty is heading that same direction. We need a new shooter.

Assassin's Creed had a weak launch, Halo had a weak launch. Maybe it's time to ask what is going on in the UK if another game fails to connect? Are UK consumers losing confidence in release quality, going digital or simply spending their money else where?

Battlefront will be huge, really.

I noticed with Halo 4, the franchise seemed to decline in popularity. Halo 5 looks and plays fantastic, it's a shame that it's doing even worse.

Maybe if Microsoft isn't happy with sales, it'll suddenly make sense for them to bring Halo to PC.

I don't know what to think of this. I am pretty sure lot of people like myself bought digital version to play it at 12AM. Stuff like that wasn't available last gen.

Your mad if you think digital isn't drastically outselling physical.

I can name one person out of a friendship group of 10 people who bought Halo 5 physically rather than digital. That's 10/90% split in physical/digital in my friendship group. I'd say it's a similar story in a lot of other peoples.

Cover 20%? Your mad.
Just because it topped the chart doesn't mean it didn't sell poorly considering it's franchise history.

And your friends choice of purchase do not mean that 90% of sales in the UK are digital, that's incredibly unlikely considering the difference in prices between buying from an online retailer or supermarket and from the digital stores.

Dunno. If that was a concern to me, I'd have bought from Simply Games or similar and had the disc 2-3 days earlier than launch.

I'm honestly extremely surprised by Halo 5s Twitch viewer numbers.

It barely ever breaks 2500 if even 2000. Only on the first day or two did it have bigger numbers that then immediately fell off.
Now it's not even in the top 10 of watched games.

I would have expected a huge franchise like Halo to be much higher for longer.
Yeah, but Twitch is heavily tilted towards PC titles and they only titels that really do well for consoles are on multiplat. Look at Destiny's numbers. It's usually always the top console game but it's out on what? 4 different platforms?

If they both bomb, I wonder if this will kill any future exclusive deals and everyone will just go PS4.

Woah, holy moly. Calm down.

So the UK digital market is massive thanks to that guy and his 9 friends?

I love how he fails to realise that they're all part of the same demographic.

Personally I don't know anyone who's ever bought a game digitally. That's just my exoerience though and I'm not going to universalise it. Obviously some people did buy it digitally but only a minority.

Digital hasn't really taken off over here due to the pricing. Sometimes the games are £20 more than in the shops and you lose thf opportunity to trade them in. Sure Halo is cheaper than other titles but people just aren't in the habit of digital purchasing.

If it was a niche title then you'd expect a higher percentage of digital downloads but Halo has broad appeal and I suspect only core gamers are the only ones who buy digitally.

lmao some people just don't understand what "failed" means in this thread.

I see lot of UK GAF buying it digital from US store. Because its cheaper than physical

That's my take as well, anecdotally speaking, the majority of people I play with went digital (from a variety of stores), I bought my code from an online retailer who was undercutting the store on the console. There's never been a more divided marketplace, imo and Halo releasing has led to more people getting Xbox recently. It's all anecdotes though.

And I would kill for a physical copy instead I got the digital one, thanks 343i. There are plenty of folks that want physical.

/anecdotal evidence.

Halo 5 is clearly not as "anticipated" as other big games, no matter how much marketing MS tries to shove into it.

343 has utterly failed to give the franchise exciting new life. But sure, I bet it sold a million in digital sales first 24h in the UK alone.

I wouldn't bet on it.

On topic - For now I'm staying away from Halo 5 because I play Halo JUST for the campaign. From the little I read it sounds atrocious.

Christ, who the hell is telling you that? It's not even close to atrocious. (but paying $60 JUST for a Halo campaign, any of them, would always be ridiculous to me)

Shit man, Microsoft is doing gangbusters in your friendship group. Sony better hope VR takes off next year or else they may never be able to win back your friendship group.

343 made a really good game Halo game.

Ive no idea whats been said but even with some issues I can't see much in the way of "atrocious", reviews left me a bit skeptical and I thought it was great

I could make a bet. SW: The Force Awakens is most likely going to be the biggest movie ever. Only the movie's buzz will sell millions of Battlefront on holidays. SW is just another kind of consumerism hysteria, it affects everyone everywhere.

No matter how you slice it. These retail numbers don't look good at all. I'm sure it sold digitally but nothing to the extent of retail. Will see if MS releases a statement either today or tomorrow

Totally anecdotal but all my friends went digital on this one. I wouldn't be surprised if more than usual went digital to play at midnight. We preloaded that bitch. There was big group for past halos that went to midnight launches at a brick and mortar store. If those people were smart they preloaded.

It doesn't matter who we are, what matters is our plan.

Never mind all the good feedback from the vast majority of the reviews, I'm going to base my opinion on that one tweet that GAF clung onto last week.

Atrocious, lol.

No split screen + lower install base. Seriously, to me and other people, Halo's best feature was split screen. They really shouldn't have tried to drop it.

If they were smart, they would have gone with someone like Simply Games who would get it to you a couple of days before launch at least, assuming they had a decent price.

Man I looked on in envy as a bunch of people were playing MGS V 5 days early from them while I waited on my CE.

Yeah, thread title change if this is the case.

I've not bought physical discs in nearly a year.

Why? NPD threads only track physical games as well and those numbers are more than valid. We can't start discrediting these things now just because Halo 5 is performing up to par in a certain region.

So just on the XB1 chart positions, Fallout 4 XB1 to be higher than Tomb Raider? I reckon so.

Tomb Raider sold about 100,000 units on Xbox 360 and 80,000 on PlayStation 3 in its week launch.

Fallout New Vegas (Xbox 360) 133,000 in its first 2 weeks.

Totally anecdotal, but neither I nor any of my friends bought Halo 5, so it definitelly didn't sell any copies at all.

Someone must have done a franchise rise and fall chart?

A 5th game on a 3rd console, plus all the side games. There's not many franchises that get to this many games.

So suddenly Halo 5 is the game where most people bought it digitally? Would this be the first AAA game to go mostly digital?

More likely sounds like anecdotal information pushed as the norm.
