First thing I did was send Dogmeat home and now I go alone for the most part. Shame they couldn't handle companions the way Obsidian did with New Vegas.

I'm about to pick this up in a few. So what's the impressions so far on the Xbox one version? Digital foundry videos got me alittle hesitant. But it's Xbox one or nothing for me as of now till I get a decent gaming pc.
No issues here, over 6 hrs in. A few frame rate drops here and there, but nothing like I've seen in the DF articles.

so i started this 'freedom walk'... and i have no idea how to continue

i spoke to the robot

after that i get the mission to continue the walk but no map marker, no indication of where i should go

My first radiation storm.

Amazing atmosphere. Was out in the middle of nowhere and sought shelter in an old trailer.

Everytime I do something important on the ps4 I can't read what I did or what the game is trying to tell me because the f'ng trophy system pops up! Any sorr of log on the pip boy where itll show me?!

It runs perfectly fine on Xbox one for me -- using a 7200rpm drive though. I'm sure there are dips here and there but nothing that has stood out or broken my immersion

Ghouls are fucking op.

Bumrush me and fuck up my shit all the time. I kinda like that they are an actually threat instead of walking bloody mess explosions but another part of me thinks they are too strong.

I modded a double barrel shotgun as best I could last night. It takes most feral ghouls out with 1 shot on hard, but I'm running out of ammo for it after coming across a few too many groups of them.

Really considering dumping dogmeat. His barking and random disappearing acts are driving me nuts. Plus it sends my dog into a fit. Only other option is codworth. Worth it? I really enjoy having him as a mule though since im a hoarder and only have 3 strength and no strongback perk.

Thoughts?

So I'm building my first settlement and I'm one plant away to complete the harvest portion of the quest...I've wasted an hour of real time waiting for a plant to harvest..how long does this last?

Loving Codsworth here. He tells jokes, provides water, and is a fucking raider slayer. Dude's great!

What? you are waiting for a crop to give out a veggie?

I thought the mission just asked you to make a few plants until a meter on the bottom left is filled out. I think i planted 10 Tato plants and it marked that objective as done.

Codsworth can also be a mule. For me he's been ridiculously strong, solo tanking a bunch of ghouls despite being on hard.

Multiple people have complained about it on the past few pages! Beware!

Power armor can be stolen? Cooool.

That's one thing I was wondering, when I heard 'Oh you can leave your power armor in the wasteland and it'll be there later!' I thought, "Hmm...why wouldn't a raider want to go in and steal it? That's stupid."

Glad to hear it can be stolen.

So I've just done
Synth Retrevial
and I've started
The bunker hill battle quest
so I want to know if I
need to do this quest to continue in the main story then get the option to choose my side
.

Also I've done the quest at
the castle
, when do I get the next quest for this line?

This needs to be shown here. hahahaha

Playing on survival mode is brutal, but I love the challenge. On one quest inside a building., I ran into 3 legendary and a boss whom all could kill me in 2 hits. And, let's not even talk about how much HP they have. To have enough bullets, my only option was sneak attack, run / hide and repeat.

You really are trapped into being the good guy aren't you? You act like an ass and walk away and the game still acts like you accepted the quest in good graces. Ugh.

Because I have no seeds, I wait for the plants to pop out fruit so I can plant those. I don't know where to find others.

Right where you talk to the robot, the is a little round circle clue, you have to note the number (the first of 8), press to activate a little sentence, then just follow the red line, it can be a little tricky to find it.

aw man did I just fuck up a quest?

so back at the start of the game when you do the quest with the Brotherhood of Steel guy (not gonna spoiler tag that, its 2 hours into the game, and saying the brotherhood of steel is in a fallout game is like saying diablo is the boss in a diablo game tbh), he gives you a chance to join them as usual, I said I'd think about it and Ive had a quest to go back to the police station for like 20 hours now because I was afraid it would interfere with the minutemen stuff.

HUGE STORY SPOILERS AHEAD

so now I just did the stuff with Nick in Fort Whatever, killed the dude that kidnapped Shaun, and when I exit Fort Whatever, there is a HUGE ASS BROTHERHOOD BLIMP flying above with a bunch of helicopters, with a new military signal that says "all BoS personel report back to the police station" and gives me a new quest to go talk to the dude at the police station. So did I pass the point where I could do that first quest to join them, seeing as they are reving up for...something aparently?

Where can I recruit that companion?

Also, does anyone know at what point I can recruit
Danse
?

Good question...

go do the radio signal quest that a guy is asking for help in a tower for Strong

So, after deciding which of the 15 Fallout 4 threads to continue posting in, here is Today's Joeboy's Pros & Cons:

Pro - Enemies & Difficulty

This sound similar to other Fallout 3 veterans' thought processes when playing?

"Oh look. Some ghouls. Well, I'll give them a fighting chance to get closer while I chose which weapon to wield for annih-OHGODFUCKGETITOFF!!!!111!"

Previously in Fallout, and Bethesda games in general, enemies are pretty cumbersome, lackluster, and generally boring. True to the term of bullet sponges, rarely did they require strategy, cunning, or even guise of caution. Now? Oh ho, now, its another ballgame. I decided to try on Normal to start with and I am REALLY glad I did as the new normal in Fallout is a lot more difficult than Fallout 3. What makes it great too is not that the enemies are super tough now, but more than anything, they are fast.

From ghouls to mongrels to those fucking soft shell Mirelurks (aim UNDER the shell, locational damage is in the game), enemies' speed has improved to the point that you have to decide, and quickly, the actions you are going to take. This has been coupled with making them quieter and the music not immediately move into combat mode. This gives them a couple of second jump unless you are being real observant.

Its very strange because, where Fallout 3 felt like enemies were sprinkled everywhere, they seem more sparse in 4, but are far deadlier. This is all REAL good news though as it makes combat more challenging, more exciting, and more rewarding without going cheap with just require more direct hits on them (See: Dragon Age 2 for a prime example).

Con - Dialogue

I gave it time, was open-minded, but that dialogue system is not working. And I don't think its the wheel's fault. To keep the Bioware comparison going, they achieve strong results with the wheel. Problem with Bethesda's go at it is the options fail to even sporadically convey the results. Rarely did I run into instances in Mass Effect where my chosen line did not match up with tone, but has happened a few times with me so far in FO4. Too often, they just go with a one word option, or even just Yes, No, Maybe that just cheapens it in general.

Let's be honest: Bethesda has never been good with dialogue. I'm all for them trying new things to IMPROVE their systems, dialogue included. But this doesn't improve the system and, frankly, doesn't streamline it either. Instead you sit there wondering about what your options will entail, befuddled.

Overall - Still loving it, the atmosphere, the base building, the exploration, and the combat so far. GOTY? Probably not, but I'm not even in the realm of regretting my purchase.

Alrighty Gaf. What's a good build for a Power Armor play threw? What should be the focus perks and what my specials should look like?

Is anyone even doing a Powe Armor run?

Okay, so I'm officially balls deep with this game...

19 hours. Level 20. I went with a 9 Charisma, 9 Intelligence character with a view to finding the corresponding Bobbleheads. I just like talking my way out of fights when the opportunity arises. I've avoided main story stuff until this play session and I've just met
Nick Valentine
and gone after
Kellogg
.

Thus far, I'm really enjoying this game but there's no denying this is a Bethesda game. They definitely haven't turned over a new leaf with their game design. Which is fine, by the way.

Okay, a few gripes/questions.

Is it me or is the radio mostly just ripped off from FO3 and New Vegas? I know they're classics and they're trying to invoke the same nostalgia but I want new songs to fall in love with.

I specifically levelled the armour and weapon modding skills because I wanted to get into that but it feels like I never have to components. Anyone else having this issue?

Anyone else think this game is too bright and colourful? I miss the green and yellow hazes of FO3 and New Vegas respectively. I know nuclear storms can blow in but they're uncommon and just aren't the same.

Find some of the build areas in the game and scrap all the stuff that's in them. You'll have plenty of materials to build new weapons and armor. You can also scrap some gear for some of the rarer materials.

was really loving this game but I think i'm done with it due to the assigning resources mess. I can create and place my water pump; however I can't assign anyone to do.

Any help or ideas?

BTW, I know i'm very early in the game.
