Fallout 4 |OT| Atom Bomb Baby

So my girlfriend got me a copy of Fallout 4 since she'll be out of town this weekend. Problem is, our internet is crap and I've heard there's a 20 gig download even with the disc installed. My question to you guys is, how exactly do I go about using Steam's backup feature to transfer the files from my laptop (which I'll have to download it onto) to my desktop (where I'll be playing it)? I have 32 gig flash drives, so is it as simple as using Steam's feature to backup the files to that and then "loading" them on my desktop?

I've never used the backup feature, but I have copied Steam games directly from one PC to another. You can just copy the Fallout4 folder to the steamapps/common folder on your other PC, then launch the game.

Mama Murphy somehow got stuck on a roof, so there's that. Managed to get here down by assigning her to something new and then sleeping for an hour.

However I built her chair and now she's sitting floating in the air right next to it. She's in the way too. I can't do anything about this because she refuses to get off her non-existent chair which makes it so that I can't move the real one.

I also had two other NPCs at Sanctuary get stuck on that same roof but I couldn't reach them, had to build a damn staircase to it just to get to them. Of course they refused to use those stairs so I had to use that same assigning trick.

God these guys are buggy.

Do you wear it everywhere? Do you have trouble getting the batteries for it?

This would be my second time starting over because my previous builds didn't fit with what I was experiencing in the game. I see the worth of the power armor and just need to know the headaches of actually using it.

I have 18 Fusion Cores right now from wandering around so I do wear them quite often. I also found the Repair Bobblehead which gives you 10% more core life. The perk that extends that time is something I'll be grabbing in the next few hours of playing.

I'm only 11 hours in but all the synth talk around diamond city has got me thinking about an ending theory, I'm so confident in it i'll spoiler tag..
Everyone in boston is a synth. That's why they took your son, to experiment on on a real human newborn.

Hm, it might be for a quest later on. Maybe?
Hope so. 10 points to Bethesda if I can
turn the dish on for some purpose much later in the game
.
My little collection :D

Make sure you've taken the fusion cores out of all of them! Prevent Grand Theft Armor in the Commonwealth!

No one has a core in it :3

But thank you for the tipp.

Btw. are there any more types? Only found those two so far :-/

Is inventory sharing only a thing between settlement workbenches? If I put X item in a settlement workbench, I won't be able to access it if I go to a weapons bench. Is that right?

What's the deal with assigning farm jobs? How much work exactly can one NPC take on?

That could be where my Mama Murphy is. i haven't seen her for ages.

Anyone found any nice handguns in the wild? I like playing stealthy characters and my build is struggling currently because of the fire power.

Guess I'm going to have to go into gun but (or whatever allows me to continue upgrading).

Did you guys join the Brotherhood of Steel? I did and now I kinda don't wanna be apart of it anymore. What do? Should I save scum? Any implications or anything worth staying in there for?

Probably is, I had lost mine too before I found her on there. My NPCs all got stuck on the building where you find the power armor frame and all that stuff, so you might want to check on there. No idea how they manage to get there though.

Might want to build a bell first though, you can call NPCs towards you with it. If she isn't stuck she'll walk to you that way.

16 hours in and I've still not been to Diamond City. I'm currently exploring the far east side of the map, taking on legendary super mutants who are far above my level. Of course, I'm kicking their asses with my trusty sniper.

It will probably be another 16 hours before I actually make it to the city.

Feels weird having to relearn everything again

There is no value in having a bunch of the same weapon right? (ie apart from selling)

There isnt a repair system where you destroy one item to improve the condition of that type right?

so has anyone read anything definitive regarding using an item with multiple components to craft something else, it might(?) destroy the other components not used in the process.

otherwise it sounds like you have to manually scrap junk in build mode until a mod comes out

2 quick Qs for you GAF

How do I assign people to specific job inside a base and is there a faction system in this one like New Vegas? If I join
the brotherhood of steel can I still do the minute men quests?

Anyone know how long it takes to not get attacked on sight in Diamond City? Kinda silly they didn't implement some sort of bounty system, I took a handful of ammo.

Go Bethesda!

They've doubled down on hard set key bindings by making the game unplayable for me.

I use E to move forward.

E is also the pick up from container button. And the pick up body button. And the oops you just stole an item from some npcs container and now they're shooting you button.

There was a mod for Skyrim to fix this, but there it was a nuisance. Here it pretty much breaks the game for me. I dug around in the files a bit but didn't see any obvious place to change the binds.

Ugh.

That sucks. Use a steam controller like me and win at everything. You can configure that controller every way you could want, if only developers allowed that much configuration easily in their games.

Does anyone know why I can't move dogmeat to (settlement spoiler)
the castle
? I want to make that my main base but I can't move him there :(.

I can't find an answer anywhere else, and I'm clearly missing something really basic because no one else seems to have this issue, but ("The First Step" spoilers):

You know that platform Jared's standing on? How on earth do I get onto it? I've killed everything in that room, and there's a catwalk that goes to it but I can't jump the gap at the end of the catwalk, and I see no other way to get to the platform. I've spent half an hour in this one goddamned room.

Never mind. THERE'S A BUTTON NEXT TO THE GAP. Ugh. I am so stupid.

that's misinformation, don't worry about it. It takes a little while for the extra components to show up or something. But it's been tested, you get everything.

In Build mode, select them (A on xbox) and then go to what you want to assign them to and select that.

To those of you who are playing it, is the story great in this game? And is it a big focus and well told?

Because I'm thinking of impulse buying it on PC.
