I feel like im the only one who gives no shits about power armor or settlement building.
Ive been playing like i played 3 and NV.
fashion/unique weapons/bobbleheads/Infinite VATS build.
Never ending slo mo exploding heads for days.

I like weapon/armor customization but don't care about settlements. I bought the house in diamond city which is the only thing I could see me really furnishing.

if 4-5 enemies are charging you and you have barely enough action points to kill one of them, what is the point of VATS? It's much easier to just play it as a shooter (and hope Fallout5 brings back VATS)

seriously, am i playing it wrong or is VATS just not very usefull? The perks dont seem to change it that much.

You have the opposite issue I have with the gameplay. I was actually going to ask if anyone here actually plays it as a straight up FPS, without ever using VATS. Personally, I think that even though the shooting itself feels vastly improved, when you factor in the skating sniper enemies (who are sniping with pistols no less), or enemies that bum-rush you for melee, it's nearly impossible to play it as such.

Enemy movement is completely unnatural, and it's really hard to hit enemies that are doing the 50 yard dash while zigzagging unless you enjoy wasting ammo. For those situations, I normally just pull out a shotgun, use VATS for the first two shots, cancel and then go manual until AP restores.

Same.
I just mod weapons.
And after one time in power armor i never used it again.

I did Sanctuary for the XP, then decided to never fuck with that again. I also just mod weapons (and armor for pockets), and I've used the power armor once after the initial time, to kill a legendary raider who was also in power armor.
Might actually use it again though to kill the
Murklurker Queen
who is currently way above my pay grade.

Oh my days, Corverga Assembly Plant is a shit show on PS4, dropping to single digits.

I feel like anyone that says they don't notice the fps drops is either blind, is lying, or hasn't gone into Corvega Assembly Plant.

I've been there and only had one bit where 6 guys attacked me where the performance took a nose dive, rest of it was passable.

I go from 60 - 45 when outside on the catwalks. Those that are claiming they don't notice either a) aren't getting them due to having a ridiculous gaming PC, b) don't really care or c) aren't sensitive to it.

Those framedrops are widely reported, both on this forum and others. You are very much not alone. People are speculating that the game isn't handling shadows very well.

Question regarding skill checks during dialogue:
Does it only check for your charisma or does it take your other perks and skills into account?

Also, does luck affect how good the weapon drops are? Because I simply cannot be bothered with this whole settlement thing, its not why I have bought the game and I find it incredible dull. But a alot of people are saying its the way to go if you want to have the best gear. So I kinda want to offset it a bit with better loot drops.

Couple of items I have are through upgrading something, but most of the good things I have were just found in the wasteland or dropped by enemies so I don't think it's at all mandatory to look after your settlement if you don't want to.

but in FO you were either "martial arts son looking for his dad" or "pew pew son looking for his dad" and in skyrim you were still "martial artist dragonborn" or "mage dragonborn"

:/

F03 shared a similar problem than 4 in this regard, but it was much less present in your dialogue options, you had 3-4 places tied to the main quest where you could ask about your dad, and that's it, then when you eventually find him, let's just say that the daddy 'problem' solves itself quite quick.
in 4 so far my character brings his pesky brat in about every conversation.

Nick is my favorite companion so far. I dropped everything to do his personal quest that took me a couple hours to finish up.

When you say personal quest -- is there anything that designates what the personal quest is for a certain character? Or is it just a side quest that happens to involve that character. I have max bond with Piper, I don't actually recall a specific personal quest for her, there was talk about
her sister
, but it was just a few conversations, and then at some point of maxing her bond I was prompted with a
Romance
option, am I just forgetting that personal quest?

Bethesda, why can't I equip armor over my Drifter outfit. My dreams of looking like this guy have been dashed.

I really don't understand the point of their layered armor system. I can count the amount of clothing pieces I can wear underneath on one hand.

UPDATE 13/5/15 11:40am: Since our initial analysis, we've put more time into Fallout 4, and we've been able to isolate a number of spots that really challenge the engine. In particular the Corvega factory is a rough spot, and PS4 takes the brunt of the hit once we reach its rooftops (down to 15fps). Both machines also suffer long drops to 20fps in certain interior battles. Time will tell just how far-reaching these trouble spots are throughout the game, particularly once more hours tally up. In the meantime, we'll update soon with a full Face-Off, taking a deeper dive into the specific ins and outs of each platform.

Does every location that isn't a settler be CLEARED? Some locations I get the CLEARED sign but some like the Ranger's Cabin by Sanctuary doesn't even I checked everything.

So how do I approach Sinjin so he won't shoot Connoly. If I step too far, he instantly kills him. Need a way to trigger the dialogue.

I had huge drops there, it was frustrating with so many enemies to deal with (especially on the rooftops like the DF quote above mentions).

I don't think she has a personal quest or maybe it triggers later on in the story.

So is this issue limited to a certain configuration or something? it's bizarre how some PS4's are fine, and others suffer drops, because some people would have you believe that the game runs at a solid 30fps, and any dips don't have an impact on the game.

The Corvega drops had a big impact.

Why? TES series has never had a deep dialogue system. People talked about how FO3 was Oblivion with guns but that was never true, however, FO4 really does feel like Skyrim with guns.

That would be my dream but I doubt it will happen. Obsidian already has a full plate it seems.

Becauae this system is absolute garbage

Becauae this system is absolute garbage

This system is fine. I think I'd like it better if it showed the percent to succeed for the speech checks. As for the checks themselves there are still multiple outcomes to an encounter based on what you say and that's all I really want. (Like in the Silver Shroud quest.)

I'm here to get clarfification on junk again;

So say I store a toaster in my workshop, which is composed of other components. Do I need to take it out and scrap it to get at the components inside, or does it scrap automatically while I'm building/modding?

It happens automatically when you build.

It doesn't make much sense... And those dips definitely impact the experience.

Except for the, you know...non existent roleplaying going on with this game. Even if you played a one-dimensional character in Skyrim, it was still your one-dimensional character.
This isn't even really just about how everything is voice acted now either. It doesn't matter how you build your character, you'll either be "martial arts dad" or "pew pew dad" and most of the choices you make don't matter..

This is still the same in Fo4, and your choices definitely do matter, how far are you into the game? There are choices that affect world and NPCs/companions more so than Fo3. There are plenty of options for being a bad character in the game too, especially the further you go. Just like in Fo3, you didn't have to care about finding your father, same goes in Fo4 with finding your son. Maybe you are thinking of the karma system in previous games which is removed but exists differently and it's only in the early stages of the game that you can't be truly 100% evil after just leaving the vault, but after a while it's free reign like a lot of the other Bethesda games. Even still when I was 6 hours early in the game on tuesday, I can still recall many situations where I was totally evil in and affected things with the dialogue when roaming. Two immediate examples was c
oming across two people accusing each other of synths had multiple outcomes depending on how I approached for example, same goes for one where people were held up by gunpoint. There were choices here that mattered. When making these choices it also affected your companion who was with you reputation regarding their reputation/view with you which have effects especially when they are plot characters
. The further you go into main quest and other big side quests you will see how much choices can matter. Outside the dialogue it's also still a Bethesda game, even NPCs related in some form to main or large side quests that you can kill and can take the quest in a more different direction as an example. A very simple example very early in the game:
You don't have to listen to Preston and get a minuteman recruited from one settlement, if you speak to the person in question he tells you to clear factory and you can then also get access to his settlement + he joins the minutemen. You can outright murder him, not need to do that factory quest that is difficult for many and Preston needs to be informed that you "couldnt" recruit him. I believe not recruiting him takes you in a different direction with the minutemen quest but I didn't test that far with that.

It's really all still there and IMO, with main quest particularly, your choices matter more so than the previous Bethesda Fallout games. Also you can be 100% total evil person, it's more than possible, the game is larger than previous Bethesda games so it's not always so apparent when you just start out, especially regarding main quests. It is still very much a Bethesda/Fallout game at its core.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason apparently anyone with a pip-boy can enter any and every vault the come across?

In the case of the PC, the Pip-boy was from one of the Vault-tec staff in the Vault (s)he was frozen in, it wasn't theirs originally. I don't recall if it was specifically an Overseer's or not, but it could have lots of extra rights tied to it with Vault-tec.

wait, PS4 framerate goes to absolute unplayable shit when you go to Corvega..? that's my next target.. fuck. i'm not ready for it, had such a terrible time with Fallout 3 on PS3 with it's massive framerate issues, i don't want to relive it again after all these years goddamnit.

i thought the new consoles could handle 25-30fps :( this is fucking bullshit.

I'm sure it's been mentioned many a time, but it's something it took me a while to realise - old weapons and gear in your stash don't seem to get broken down automatically, and not all of them show up in the interface when you go to a weapon/armor bench. I'm thinking specifically about gas masks and other things. I've had to drop them and scrap them that way.

Nah, I never noticed anything wrong with corvega, and I messed up my stealth route and had to rambo it with the whole building after me.

Only time I've seen the fps tank was when I was outside in a town with a dude in a metal suit having a mini nuclear war with some mutants while a big plane thing was circling overhead. It only lasted a few seconds, though.

Suggestion? Take a big gun and your power armor. It'll make it easier to fight during those lovely fps drops.

The framedrop drop is on all systems, btw. My PC loses 20 to 30 frames in that area from a smooth 60 everyone else (apart from some indoor maps that are also a tad fucked).

It's not that bad, and it's only in one area of Corvega. I can count the number of times I've had noticeable framedrops on my one hand. Dont' worry.

Edit:

Framerate gets down to like, 20-15 in that one area of Corvega.

Question on sneaking, I always do it in Elder Scrolls games and for some reason in this game even when crouched and approaching people behind their backs (sometimes even far away) they always get cautious and act like they heard me. Is sneaking bugged? Or maybe I have something on that makes me loud?

Rather annoying, I would love to sneak up on some people with a melee weapon and save ammo if I can.

Interesting... I didn't even think about doing that with stuff from your inventory. I've been taking the apparel that you can't scrap at the benches to a seller and swapping for bullets. Maybe some of that's more useful getting scrapped manually than the minimal resale value.

How many perks do you have spent in Sneaking?

You have to also kinda crawl forward on the stick. Even when sneaking your footsteps can be heard by enemies that are higher level than you.

Madness. Do you not like well-written games?

I do, which is partly why I consider NV to be garbage.

I didn't like how New Vegas just pushed you out of a house and went "ok now go do something". I had no motivation to go anywhere or find out what to do.

Are you moving slowly aswell as sneaking? Also heavier armour can get you detected.
