Is it just me or is Piper's audio low quality? I finally got to Diamond City and every time she speaks I can hear some type of artifacting but I can't place whether it's from some kind of compression or just low bit rate audio files but it's definitely noticeable.

edit: Playing on PC.
i noticed it on pc too. sounds like really low bitrate compared to everything else.

Legendary Bloodbugs are the absolute worst because you can't really cheese them with geometry, and they will chase you forever, and they can be extremely difficult to hit outside of VATS. I'm level 20 with fantastic gear and completely wrecking everything up to this point. I just hit a legendary bloodbug that I am NOT underleveled for (no skull) that has killed me 5+ times. I am literally loading back to Sanctuary right now to grab fully modded out Power Armor and a Minigun. This is fucking ridiculous, I can two-shot named armored baddies but this bug is basically a God.

No clue. He does nothing but steam roll through all his first play throughs. Get a feel for the environment, mechanics, etc. he was rushing to every location just to mark them as fast travel points and did not stop to explore. He also ran a train just modding Pray n Spray
That feels so empty.

Um, every time I try to make a new character my game gets stuck just after the chamber thing opens up. Can't move my character, only pause the game. Re-did the intro and the same thing happens, what the heck do I do? this is ps4 btw.

Is anyone else getting this bug that causes spotlights not to produce any light when they reload into the area? They're still powered up and moving, but there's no lighting effect.

Picking each of them and putting them down again corrects the problem. This happens every time to my spotlights at the Sanctuary Hills bridge on PS4, I haven't used spotlights anywhere else.

Jesus, just spent 5 hours on it and only did one quest

-Moved all my stuff to Red Rocket
-Bought a
Junkyard Dog
from some bloke in Concord
-Got to max level with Codsworth (
no quest, just a perk unfortunately
-Cleared out
ArcJet
and been asked to join the
Brotherhood of Steel
(does doing this early on cause other quests to fail?)
-Found a couple of Legendary Items, one of which seems good
-Sorted out my inventory, upgraded armour

Does having high luck give you a better chance with the Port-A-Diners? Just can't get hold of it in either location I've found them.

edit: sorry, huge gif. What is the limit? Used imgur and a 6 second video has become a 30MB gif

I literally can't kill it. I'm 50 hours in and have been completely wrecking everything, and even with higher tier and modded power armor and weapons I can't fucking kill it. And of course I'm not getting any assists from Mysterious Stranger. I'm going back with a Fat Boy, really don't want to waste a mini-nuke but fuck this thing, holy goddamn shit.

Feels like there is never anyone buying at my stores does it just need more people in general or certain requirements? Settlements in general do my head in.

I think the bigger the store the more caps you'll get, and it doesn't matter if you dont see them shopping at it, you get your cut. I don;t think there is anything you can do to influence that

is there a point where i should stop doing the main quests because its going to cancel out some side stuff? i hate it when games do that without any warning.

I haven't had much chance to play this due to work. I have to ask. Are melee builds viable in the game? Anyone tried? I would love to see if you can pull off that sort of build.

Quoting because I would like to know as well. I tried out one today and had little success against anything that wasn't a human. Stealth seemed required as well (it was fun too!). Against any strong non-human enemy though I would get destroyed in melee range.

I figured Strength and Endurance were the most important stats but apparently Agility is important as well. Anyone have any ideas?

Haha holy shit this is amazing

This has always been the case, but I swear the novice hacking terminals are harder than the higher ranked ones. The short words create a lot of overlap while the bigger ones are very easy to break down.

It's easy if you are a sniper, even on survival mode. I just sneak, scrope long range, 3x dam, run, hide and repeat. I am assuming your char isn't.

Try hopping yourself on Med-X and buffout for the big fights?

Well that was ridiculous. Got it to mutate, used the Fat Boy and I don't think it actually killed it, I think it took it down to a sliver and Dogmeat got the actual kill as I was reloading. And it's drop was literally a shittier version of another identical legendary arm I got like 20 hours ago.

So that's awesome.

All of that bullshit aside I'm still not fucking with Settlements at all. On PS4 the interface and placing stuff is super clunky, it desperately needs a top-down mode or more zoomed out camera or something. I spent about 90 minutes scrapping Sanctuary completely and trying to build stuff and didn't make or do anything satisfactory. I also still have no idea if it ever leads to anything good, so it also has the negative effect of me picking up and hoarding everything because I don't know if I'll need the stuff later. And of course I can't put down a lot of stuff in Settlements without having the Local Leader perk, which I don't have because I went low Charisma. The entire implementation and (lack of) explanation of why Settlements matter is incredibly poor, and as a whole is actually a detriment to me right now because I'm stashing stuff instead of not picking it up or selling it because I don't know if I'll regret it later. It might wind up being awesome, but they've done nothing to demonstrate why and my starting choices prevent me from readily accessing some of it lol.

I found a sniper rifle with like every tier 3 perk on it that's nuts, I tried that but the thing seriously chased me halfway across the commonwealth, would not stop. That said I don't have any points/gear/abilities that would increase my sneak attack damage, and no points in Rifleman (which I would guess effect that?). Alternatively I guess I could have popped a Stealth Boy maybe?

Welp, it's literally impossible to avoid ending spoiler for this game when the youtube trolls just change their name to a spoiler. Is there even point of playing this game knowing what happens?

Fallout stories are pretty mediocre at best, so it's really all about the journey, the exploration and the little side stories and environments that make the tale.

I find it pretty easy to only use my subscriptions and not read YouTube comments, there's no point to the latter anyway.

The game isn't about the story at least. Many side quests and just exploring are way more fun.

Is it possible to scrap weapons for their mods?
Where else can I find weapon mods?

I usually take a weapon I'm going to scrap and take off all the mods on it by attaching stock parts, then scrapping the gun, the unattached mods will go into your inventory that I then transfer to my workbench to be used on another gun. I also think there's a perk that let's you break down weapons and get the mods that way but I'm not sure.

Ha slight oversight from changing my strength in the Console for more carry weight is my melee hits basically one hit everything. Not something I do often since I'm more or less strictly a sniper but funny when the odd raider comes up and his head/body explodes from the tap of my gun.

Yes?

Frankly, so far the main story doesn't seem all that great to begin with, so being spoiled isn't some great tragedy. I've been reading spoilers ever since the spoiler thread popped up, and some of what I've read sounds weak. Maybe it's not, but that was my impression. So I never came into the game expecting a great yarn. But besides that, you're playing a game and a great deal of the fun here is exploring, interacting with NPCs, side quests and the combat.

Then again, I'll never understand the "spoiler culture" on the internet that so vehemently tries to avoid them. A spoiler can ruin a twist of a sense of discovery, but it can't ruin the entire piece (unless you view things that way, which is just weird to me). The quality of a story is in its execution. A spoiler is nothing without the meaning of the journey that got you there. Even when you're unspoiled, once the shock of the plot twist or whatever wears off, what leaves a lingering impression is the context around the spoiler.

You can increase your carry weight without giving you more strength.

How much does PER affect aiming in VATS what's a good skill level to have? I have 5 so far.
Ditto and I don't feel like more is necessary. At least on "body" I always have 95% hit chance from maximum VATS range possible. I do headshots via crits or manually or if they are close. I don't think it's worth it, unless you aim for a particular perk (pun intended).

Getting really, REALLY fucking sick of terminal-locked doors breaking and becoming impossible to open. Terminals in general seem like a glitchy mess because they often force you to wait for them to disengage locks or else they'll be permanently stuck in a loop.

Is this on PC? Because on PS4, so far I've had no problem with terminals.

Yup, if I wasn't on PC then I wouldn't have been able to deactivate collisions which would have left me stuck in the room locked with a PC during the
Cambridge Polymer Facility quest
. There were two terminals on each side of the door and neither would actually unlock the door no matter how long I sat at the "Disengaging locks..." dialogue. This also occured during a visit to Arcjet with Danse.

Fuck you queen mirelurk and fuck you super mutant camp in the brotherhood mission.

Worst idea ever to do these missions in succession .

poor paladin barnes paid for my frustration .
